<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

SLIDER FOR ZIPPER.
The invention relates to a slider for actuating a zipper composed of two profiled strips guided one inside the other and made of an elastic material, one of the profiled strips having a clamp profile and the other. an end profile. In the closed position, these two profiled strips mesh with one another. The cursor consists of a body divided from end to end into two halves in the longitudinal direction. The inner space of the slider, the space guiding the two profiled strips for the closing and opening of the zipper, has a wedge-shaped bar, which connects the two halves of the body to each other and is disposed perpendicular to the base surface of the slider body and in the longitudinal direction.
According to the invention, a wedge-shaped part is arranged on the bar connecting the two halves of the slider to each other. This wedge-shaped part protrudes into the interior space of the slider, more precisely in the part of this interior space which guides the profiled strip having a clamp profile. The wedge-shaped piece is located on the plane of the side slits of the slider body and rests vertically on the bar. This wedge-shaped piece has a guide surface, which is located parallel to its free and external edge. The wedge-shaped part is used to guide the profiled strip in gripper, introduced into the slider, and to widen the gripper. The guiding of the profiled clip edge is very advantageously effected by means of the guide surface provided on the wedge-shaped part.
This guiding surface prevents lateral tearing of the profiled strip through the slider slot.
In the internal space of the slider, on the other side of the bar, members are provided for the slider body for guiding the bar.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
teau having an end profile. These guide members can be formed, for example, by two neighboring pins or strips, fixed to the internal side of the base surface of the slider and this in a manner essentially parallel to the plane of the bar. These pins or strips leave a free space between their ends, in which the strip having an end profile is guided behind the end, in a manner preventing it from sliding laterally from the slider slot.
Instead of these pins or strips, serving to guide the strip having an end profile, it is also possible to provide guide ribs arranged at right angles to the slider slot, located on this side, and oriented parallel towards interior space. These guide ribs leave between them a free space as wide as the side slits of the slider and greater than the thickness of the strips of the closing strips, guided by this space. The guide ribs preferably have the shape of an arc starting from the side from which the profiled strip is introduced into the interior space of the slider.
The ridges of the ribs are used to guide the strip having an end profile, while the superficial parts of the ribs, parts not oriented towards each other, are used to keep the profile in the grip of the other in the open position. strip, clamp profile opened by the wedge-shaped piece on the other side of the slider. According to the invention, the guide ribs are located parallel to the plane of the wedge-shaped part.
The operation of the cursor according to the invention is as follows:
The clamp profile of one of the strips is introduced into the interior space of the slider via the wedge-shaped part arranged laterally to the bar. This clamp profile is widened by the wedge-shaped piece.
By continuing to maneuver the slider, the enlarged profile reaches the outer side of the guide members, for example guide ribs of the end profile, which maintain the elastically enlarged clamp profile in this state. Simultaneously with the introduction of the gripper profile into the interior of the slider, the end profile is introduced on the other side of the slider, ie between the guide ribs, for example, as we have already clarified it above.
As the two widened clamps of the other strip slide along the outer side of the two guide ribs, the end profile engages with the clamp profile. When the two profiles leave the slider where the clamp profile closes elastically, the end profile is styled by the clamp profile, which achieves the reciprocal clamping necessary for a block closure.
The opening movement of the slider acting in concert with the two profiles takes place in an analogous manner and vice versa, the slider executing a movement in the opposite direction.
In order to facilitate the introduction of the end of the profiled strip with a clamp into the slider, for example by fitting the zipper with the slider or when the zipper is fully opened in certain cases, it is proposed, according to the invention, to provide a notch in the wall of the slider such that the corner piece for the admission of the clamp profile is prominent and thereby easy access.
The sliders according to the invention can be manufactured in metal, in synthetic material, in organic materials such as wood, bone, or the like, by stamping, injection molding and extrusion, bending, pressing, or stamping. The slider can be made in one piece or consist of two parts.
According to the invention, the slider bar can be extended beyond the outer surface of the slider body and thereby constitute
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
reinforcing ribs for the slider, the walls of which are thin to keep its weight and dimensions within minimum limits. The pull tab for actuating the slider may be attached to a reinforcing rib or be movably disposed in a notch presented by this reinforcing rib.
The slider according to the invention makes it possible to completely separate the two profiled strips from one another, and without it being necessary to make special arrangements for this.
The slider according to the invention therefore makes it possible to actuate, without any additional modification being necessary, both a zipper with separable profiled strips and with non-separable strips.
When the two closing strips must not be able to separate from each other, the slider is first engaged on both ends of the closing strips after which the latter are definitively connected to each other. , for example by welding. In the case of a separate configuration, for example, the clamp profile of one of the strips is closed at its end, so that the cursor cannot fall and be lost.
But at any time, the profile at the end of the other strip can be pulled from the cursor and reinserted there.
The slider according to the invention also offers another essential advantage, in that it is self-stopping without requiring special devices for this, as is the case with known zipper sliders, which are equipped with elastic stop hooks. In other words: the cursor remains on the zipper in any position, without shifting automatically, not even in the event of lateral traction. According to the invention, this effect is obtained as follows: due to the configuration of the slider according to the invention, the widened toe profile of one of the closure strips slides on the superficial surface of the nerves. guiding holes and the increase in friction resulting from the inherent elasticity of this profile achieves automatic stopping in any position.
The cursor according to the invention therefore simultaneously performs two functions, namely the closing and opening of the closure on the one hand, and stopping the cursor in any position, on the other hand.
All the additional details relating to the invention will emerge from the description below in combination with the drawing, which shows two models of execution of the cursor according to the invention.
On the drawing :
Figures 1 to 3 illustrate in perspective, and partially in section, a slider not provided with the two profiled strips. Considered separately,
Figure 1 shows the part of the interior space 5 of the slider used for guiding the clamp profile, Figure 2 shows the side of the interior space 5 of the slider which is used for guiding the end profile, and Figure 3 represents a configuration of the cursor comprising pins 6 and 7 which serve to guide the end profile.
Figures 4 and 5 show the sliders according to Figures 1 to 3 once the profiled strips have been introduced. Considered separately, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
FIG. 4 represents a slider with simple profiled strips, and FIG. 5 represents a slider with profiled strips having a median bead.
According to Figures 1, 2 and 4, the elastic clamp profile 16 of one of the profiled strips is introduced, via the wedge-shaped part 3, into the interior space 5 of the slider, which widens the two clamps 18 and 19. By continuing to move the cursor, the clamps 18 and 19 of this strip 16 reach the external surfaces 12 of the ribs 8 and 9 which hold them in the open position. On the other hand, the internal edges 11 of the ribs 8 and 9 serve to guide the end profile 20, which thereby is introduced into the widened profile 16.
The two slider halves are formed and held together by the bar 1, which is configured in the form of a wedge and serves to meet at the corresponding angle the two profiled strips 16 and 20. On the bar 1 is arranged the wedge-shaped part 3. The slider body has side slots 2, which serve to guide the strips 17 and 21 of the two strips 16 and 20. The guide ribs 8 and 9, guiding the strip 20 having an end profile , its located parallel to each other in the direction of the slot 2. The spacing between them is the same as that of this slot 2.
On one of the outer sides of the body of the slider, the bar 1 constitutes the reinforcing rib 13, in which is provided a notch 14 serving to guide the tongue 15, which serves to actuate the slider.
In Figures 3 and 5, the ribs 8 and 9 conforming to Figures 1 and 2 are replaced by the two pins 6 and 7, leaving between them the free space 10 where the lamella 21 of the profiled strip engages. end. These two pins are used to guide the strip 20 with its end profile. The operating mode of this cursor is the same as that of the execution model shown in Figures 1 and 2.
To allow better guidance of the clamp profile 16 of the other strip, the wedge-shaped part 3, placed on the bar 1, may have a guide surface 4.
According to FIG. 5, the strip 21 of the strip 20, profiled at the end, has a median bead 22, which makes it possible to grip the outer sides of the two clamps 18 and 19 in the closed position, the bar 23 of the strip profiled in end 20 being guided in the free space 10 remaining between the two pins 6 and 7.
Instead of the wedge-shaped piece 3, which serves to guide the clamp profile 16, it is also possible, as is the case for the guide of the end-profile strip 20, to use parallel ribs extending from the slot. side of the slider body inward. In this case, the two lateral slots 2 presented by the cursor therefore have guide ribs oriented inward, ribs whose length and configuration are conditioned by the angle of the profiles 16 and 20 to be joined.
