<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

SIMULTANEOUS CONTROL DEVICE FOR THE INLET OF FUEL AND COMBUSTIBLE AIR IN A BURNER OR FIREPLACE. ADJUSTABLE FOR AND ADAPTABLE TO EACH FIREPLACE.
The present invention relates to devices used for regulating the supply of fuel and combustion air in burners or fireplaces using solid, liquid or gaseous fuels.
It is known that many burners, in particular fuel oil, are equipped with devices designed to ensure a mixture of fuel and combustion air approaching as close as possible to the theoretical maximum of the bodies present. However, the existing devices are empirical and do not make it possible to reach maximum CO2 contents at all speeds.
Indeed, if we plot on a graph the flow variations on the one hand, of the fuel on the other hand, of the oxidizing air as a function of the angular or linear displacement of a valve, we see that the curves do not are in no way similar and can only be covered in one or at most two points on the route.
In addition, the pressures of the air, if blown in, and those of the liquid or gaseous fuel can change from one stove to another and it is necessary to be able to adapt in each case the air-oil or air-fuel setting of a more generally.
It has already been recommended to make use of an adjustable intermediate member so as to admit the combustion air only as a function of the fuel flow rate, taking account of the analysis of the burnt gases, but the devices Qonnus up to now have been working in jerks, with the air regulating valve going backwards when passing from one regulating point to its neighbor.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide a device allowing, for any burner to

Coal-fired or gas-fired fuel oils;, to give a mixture of fuel and combustion air over the entire adjustment range, as close as possible to the theoretical maximum, whatever the draft conditions.
For this purpose, the device, object of the invention ;, of the type comprising an intermediate member between the air intake and the fuel intake and provided with a certain number of removable and adjustable parts according to the analyzes. gas burnt for each position of the fuel inlet valve, is characterized in that this intermediate member acts continuously on the air inlet valve, so that the latter occupies a position corresponding to the Maximum efficiency in relation to the fuel admitted for each of the positions of the intermediate organ, without discontinuity and without oscillation.
In the practical implementation of the invention, the intermediate member is constituted by a slotted plate in which are fixed, according to the analysis of the combustion gases, removable parts constituted by screws or bolts extending from the plates. guides which determine, one after the other, a continuous path of movement for the end of a lever which controls the position of the air regulating valve.
According to another embodiment, the intermediate member consists of a rotary axis carrying a number of arms offset from one another, the length and position of which are adjustable and which can come into contact with one another. one after the other and in a progressive and continuous manner, with a surface integral with a lever acting on the combustion air intake valve.
According to another variant embodiment, the intermediate member is adjusted according to the pressure variations prevailing in the liquid fuel line.
In order to make the invention fully understood, examples of its embodiments will be given below.
Fig. 1 schematically shows in perspective view a device of this type with linear displacement for liquid or gaseous fuel, acting on the fuel and air valves and in the form of a grid with adjustable raceway according to the analyzes of the burnt gases. .
Fig. 2 is an enlarged partial view of the grid.
Fig. 3 is the side view.
Fig. 4 shows another form of construction of the rotary displacement device, acting on the air regulating valve.
Fig. 5 is an exemplary embodiment of the connection of the axis of this device with the control regulating the supply of fuel.
Fig. 6 shows a diagram of the adjustment of the air adjustment valve by an intermediate member depending on the pressure variation prevailing in the duct of a liquid fuel in a nozzle with variable flow rate.
Fig. 7 shows in section a part of this intermediate member.
In these figures, 1 designates a lever controlled manually or by an electric or mechanical servomotor, modulating or not, responding to the pulses of a thermostat, pyrostat or pressure switch. This lever 1 drives, via a shaft 2, a ball valve 3 (the ball valve may possibly be replaced by a "relief-valve" or any other). Valve 3 modifies the flow of liquid or gaseous fuel circulating in pipe 4.
The same lever 1 controls via a lever 5,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
carrying a lug 6, a rocker 7 whose pivoting movement around an axis 8 is transformed into linear movement by a set of levers 9 and 10.
At the end of this set of levers is a plate 11 carrying a certain number of slots 12, on each of which are placed two screws 13 each secured to an orientable sheet 14 (FIG. 2). The succession of these sheets creates between them a "continuous directed raceway" 15, in which moves a roller lug 16 fixed on a lever 17 acting on a rocker 18 pivoting around an axis 19 and controlling in turn, by a lug 20, a lever 21 and fixed on the axis 22 of an air valve 23 placed in a sheath 24.
To obtain an optimum air-fuel mixture, it suffices to fix the screws 13 in their corresponding slot in the place corresponding to the position of the lug 16 and, consequently of the air valve 23, giving the gas analysis the best content. in CO2 without CO or with the minimum of CO. When the adjustment has been made for each of the slots 12, a continuous raceway 15 has been obtained, obliging the air valve 23 to always be at the required opening angle whatever the position of the lever 1. .
According to another embodiment, the device acts by rotation on the air supply regulating members as a function of the fuel supply.
An axis 30 carries a series of fingers 31 the orientation and length of which are adjustable and which are offset from one another in the manner of the fingers of an open hand or the stiffening rods of a fan. These fingers are supported on a sheet 32 which can pivot about an axis 33 and which is connected to a connecting rod 34 acting on a lever 35 controlling the air valve (not shown) mounted on the axis 36. A return spring 37 maintains the rod. contact of the sheet 32 with the end of one or the other finger 31.
The fingers 31 must be sufficiently close together so that one of them begins to touch the sheet 32 before the finger in contact with the latter begins to erase. In this way, it is possible to achieve a continuous movement of pivoting of the sheet 32 about its axis 33 and to avoid a succession of advances and retreats of this sheet in contact with the various fingers which follow one another.
To obtain maximum combustion efficiency, it suffices to adjust the orientation and the length of the fingers according to the indications given by the gas analyzes, so as to obtain that for all the positions of the inlet valve of fuel, an optimum proportion of combustion air is allowed in order to achieve the most perfect combustion possible at each point.
The axis 30, which ultimately controls the position of the air regulating valve fixed to the axis 36, is, on the other hand, in relation to the regulator 37 of the fuel supply. This relationship can be anything and is represented, by way of example, by a mechanism of the kind shown in FIG. 5.
The adjustment member or valve, or valve-37 ,, is mounted on a frame 38 which carries, on the other hand, a modulating servo motor 39 or possibly a handwheel (not shown) exerting the same function. tion that the servo-motor 39. The pinion 40 of this servo-motor is driven by a chain 41 or the like, a pinion 42 which controls by a transmission 43 with eccentric or connecting rod and crank a lever 44 which acts on the axis 30 and by the connecting rods 45 and 46, on 1-'axe 37 of 1 ° regulating organ of 1-arrival of the fuel.
On the other hand, the length of the levers 45 and 46 is adjustable by the sleeves 47. The variation in length of the lever 45 makes it possible to choose the starting point of the valve whose axis is at 37. The variation
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The length of the lever 46 makes it possible to vary the length of the stroke, that is to say the angle of displacement of this valve.
Under these conditions, a modification of the position of the fuel valve fixed on the axis 37 and controlled by the servomotor 39 or the manual control which can replace it, results, through the intermediary of the axis 30 of the device carrying the adjustable fingers 31, the modification of the position of the adjustment valve or of the air valve fixed on the axis 36, the position of the fingers 31, as well as their length having been adjusted according to the analyzes of the burnt gases for optimum combustion.
In the example shown in figs 6 and 7, the cam with fingers acting on the air valve is controlled by a hydraulic piston moving according to the pressure variations prevailing in the oil pipe.
Fig. 6 is a diagram of the entire device. A pump 51 sucks the fuel oil from a tank and delivers it under a certain pressure in a pipe. This pressure is fixed in a relief valve 52 of a known type, by means of a handwheel 53 and is indicated by a pressure gauge 58 '. The oil is delivered through an orifice 55. The discharge oil returns to the pump suction through an orifice 54. The oil passes through a nozzle 56 and the excess oil arrives at a discharge soup. ge 57 which regulates, in the return pipe, the pressure on which the flow rate of the nozzle depends. By acting on the flywheel 53 ′ of this valve, either by hand or with any servomotor, the flow rate of the burner is varied. A pipe connects the valve 57 to a pressure gauge 5811 and to a hydraulic piston 59 designed as follows (Fig. 7).
The oil enters by 61 and acts on a piston 62 braked by a calibrated spring 63 and controlling a rod 71. The oil which would have infiltrated above the piston 62 is returned to the suction of the pump by 64 The stuffing box is formed by the parts 65 and 66. A frame or frame 70 is fixed to the body of the cylinder 59 by the part 65. This frame carries a guide 75 of the rod 71 and a guide 75 'of a rod 74. The adjustable length fingers 72 fixed to the rod 71 press on the piston 74 by means of a leaf spring 73.
The piston 74 actuates a valve 79 mounted on a pin 78, through the intermediary of the levers 76 and 77. This valve 79 tends to always return to the closed position by the counterweight or spring 80.
The spring 73 must be of sufficient length to pass the furthest finger when the latter reaches the end of its stroke, so that neither of the fingers can catch on the spring while descending. In fact, the end of the spring has a tendency to straighten up and to rest on the fingers which have passed the piston 74.
It is obvious that many variations of construction and assembly can be made for the intermediate members connecting the device developed according to the analyzes of the burnt gases, on the one hand, with the combustion inlet, on the one hand. on the other hand, with the combustion air intake.
