<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La figure 1 est un schéma du procédé pour la fabrication des pla- ques ondulées en partant d'une feuille continue fabriquée d'une manière quel- conque;
La figure 2 est une vue en coupe suivant la ligne II-II de la figure 1;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

-PROCEDE'AND'MACHINE'FOR.PRODUCTION @FIBRO-CEMENT CORRUGATED PLATES.
This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of corrugated fiber cement sheets from fresh flat sheets, as well as to a machine for carrying out this process.
The flat sheets of asbestos cement can be established by any suitable process to be combined with the process according to the invention, for example by the process according to the patent application filed in Belgium on the same day under the name of the applicant, by which one creates a continuous sheet which is subjected to straightening and cutting to form flat plates having sufficient flexibility and thus capable of being molded to produce the corrugated plates according to the process according to this invention.
For this purpose, each flat plate is placed between two flexible fabrics and the whole is subjected to a molding operation between longitudinal elements? each of which has a shaped surface adapted to produce, in combination with like elements on the opposite side, the formation of the corrugations.
The elements on both sides of the plate, which are at the beginning in a position where they are spaced apart from each other, are gradually brought closer to each other from this position, bringing the upper elements towards the lower elements, on which the plate rests, the elements being kept constantly moved between them and penetrating 1-'un into the other so as to give the interposed plate the desired corrugated shape.
According to the invention, each of the two flexible webs is attached to the end elements of the corresponding series of surface elements.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
-2- 505873 shaped, so that the fabrics are stretched when the elements are in their most distant position at the start of molding.
According to an improvement, the fabrics are made of rubber or other elastic material and are stretched in their starting position for molding.
According to another improvement, the fabrics consist of a sheet of rubber or other elastic material, to which are fixed on either side, displaced between them, strips of fabric or other material, practically inextensible and flexible. The fabric straps which, during the molding operation, are on the outside of the plate, are, for each fabric, at the convexities of the plate, while those which are on the inside are found. at the concavities of the plate, the edges of the outer and inner strips overlapping for a certain length.
Further details of the invention, such as those relating to the machine, will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the process and, schematically, 1a. machine for its realization.
Figure 1 is a diagram of the process for the manufacture of corrugated sheets from a continuous sheet manufactured in any way;
Figure 2 is a sectional view along the line II-II of Figure 1;
Figures 3 and 4 show, in the two initial and final positions of the work, the apparatus capable of producing the molding of the corrugated plates from the flat plate, and
Figures 5 and 6 show a detail of these devices and a variant of the webs between which the plate to be molded is enclosed.
In figure 1, 1 indicates a continuous tape, stretched between two rollers, the drawing of which shows the rear roller 3. On this tape is produced the continuous sheet S of fiber cement, of suitable thickness, according to a any process.
The continuous sheet formed, dehydrated and compressed, for example as described in the mentioned patent application, is compressed further, if necessary, between the end tape return roll 3 and an upper roll 25, and passes it over a second conveyor belt 29.
On the latter the continuous sheet is cut, by knives or circular grinders 28, 28 'or by other known means, on its side edges and transversely for dressing and to form the plates.
The knife 28, operating the transverse cut, must, of course, also be animated during the cut, with a longitudinal movement in the same direction as the plate and at the same speed as the latter.
To produce the corrugated sheets, the following procedure is carried out (figures 1 and 2).
The flat plate 26, carried by the tape 29, which can be driven by an intermittent movement for each plate to be corrugated, is moved on the lower carriage 31, the advancement movement of which is synchronized with that of the tape 29.
This carriage 31 is brought from its position A to its position C (figure 1), by moving it on its rail a to + below the molding press,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
60 of which indicates the frame, and which is provided with a movable assembly 32, which will be described below, cooperating with that of the carriage 31 in the molding operation.
After the molding of the corrugations, the carriage 31 is brought from its position C to its position D (figure 1), where is installed, transversely to the rail, a bridge crane 52, on which the carriage 47 of the elevator can slide. suction 49, actuated by the piston of the cylinder 48. By the suction lifter 49, suitably shaped in corrugations (figure 2), the molded plate is removed from the carriage 31 and transported on the carriage 50 arranged on a parallel rail o to the rail a.
Another carriage 51 is provided for feeding the corrugated molds to be interposed between the fresh corrugated plates as they are molded.
For molding under the press 60, the equipment carried by the carriage 31 is used in combination with the equipment carried by the mobile part 32 of the press 60.
These equipments comprise a plurality of elements 'respectively 33 and 33' each following the profile of a corrugation of the plate (Figures 3 to 6).
The elements 33 as well as the elements 33 'can be brought together up to a distance corresponding to the pitch of the corrugations of the plate.
On these elements 33, 33 'is arranged a sheet of flexible material 34, respectively 34', which is secured to the outer elements and is tangent to the peaks of the intermediate elements (Figures 3 and 5).
On the sheet 34 is placed the plate 26, as described above. The elements 33 'of the crew 32 have a position which is maintained intermediate with respect to the lower elements of the crew of the carriage 31 (Figures 3 and 4), this position being maintained during their approach.
On the carriage 31, carrying the plate 26 made of fiber-cement to be molded, brought to its position C on the rail a under the press 60, the mobile unit 32 is lowered by means of the hydraulic cylinder 37 so as to clamp the plate between the flexible screens 34,34 '.
The elements 33 'are then imparted a vertical movement, these elements undergoing at the same time a horizontal movement synchronous with the also horizontal movement which is imparted to the elements 33, so that the axes of the elements 33' by approaching the elements 33, are kept constantly on the mean line with respect to the axes of the latter, until their position of complete penetration shown in Figure 4.
During this movement, the plate 26 is forced to assume a wavy shape, its constant adhesion to the respectively upper and lower surface of the flexible tapes 34, 34 ', avoiding any risk of cracks, even if the plate is very compressed. and dry.
After molding, 19 'crew 32 of the press 60 is lifted and the carriage 31 is moved on the rail a until it takes position D (FIG. 1).
The suction elevator 49 (figure 2), the gripping surface of which is suitably corrugated, lifts, with the aid of the cylinder 48, the molded plate, placing it on the carriage 50 of the rail c, from where it is brought. to packaging.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
On the other hand, the carriage 31 is returned to its position A, the elements 33, 33 'returning to their most distant position.
The assembly is thus ready for a new cycle, equal to that which has just been described. In the meantime, a corrugated mold, taken from the carriage 51, located on the rail b, by means of the elevator 49, is placed on the carriage 50.
All these maneuvers can be carried out automatically by an appropriate interdependence, to be carried out mechanically or using suitable electrical circuits.
In order to make the action exerted by the two flexible webs 34, 34 'on the plate more effective during the corrugation molding thereof, the webs are made according to the invention of an elastic material, for example rubber, so that they can undergo elastic elongations when they are subjected to a tensile force.
These fabrics undergo elastic elongation when the elements 33,33 'of the apparatus are in the rest position, spaced apart from each other in excess, precisely to produce elongation (figure 3). By this system, during the corrugation of the plate, the two elastic webs are reduced to the same extent to which they have been elastically stretched, and thus cause the particles of which the plate is made to come together in the transverse direction, thus avoiding the danger of cracks.
If one examines the condition of a cement-asbestos slab during its corrugation by the systems normally used, one easily notices its tendency to crack at the convex parts of the corrugations where elongation of the fibers occurs, while at the concave parts no clue. cracks do not occur because the fibers are brought together.
According to the invention, it is possible to avoid lengthening of the fibers at the convex parts of the corrugations and to increase the shortening of the fibers at the concave parts of the corrugations. To achieve this effect, the two webs 34, 34 'are set up in such a way that, during the corrugating operation of the plate, the areas in contact with the convex portions of the corrugations withdraw and cause a corrugation. bringing together the fibers of the plate, while the areas in contact with the concave parts, maintain a constant development.
This can be achieved (Figures 5 and 6) by applying webbing or other practically inextensible and flexible material to both sides of each of the webs 34, 34 'made of rubber, in particular by applying strips. star in the longitudinal direction with respect to the plate on the outer surfaces of the tapes 34, 34 'at the convexities of the corrugations and on the inner surfaces at the concavities.
The fabric bands are of a width, in the transverse direction of the plate, such as to produce the overlap of an exact and sufficient amount of the bands.
The tape thus established, while being very flexible, is inextensible in the transverse direction thanks to the presence of the webs and, during the corrugation of the plate, it produces a reconciliation, as described above, particles of matter at the tops of the undulations.
In fact, it should be noted (figures 5 and 6) that the development in the direction transverse to the undulations of the surfaces of the two strips in contact with the plate and on the zones not covered by the fabric strips , undergoes a shortening during the corrugation phase, this shortening being a function of the shape of the corrugation and the thickness of the ribbons. The plate is obliged, as it undulates, to undergo this transverse shortening with the very important result of a reconciliation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
parts of which it is made, thus avoiding the danger of cracks, even in the case of very dry material and of considerable thickness.
When the operation is completed, as mentioned above, the crew 32 is lifted and the crew of the carriage 31 is returned to its position B to remove the finished plate.
It should be noted that, during these maneuvers, the ribbons 34 which carry the plate 26, because the inaction of the upper crew is interrupted, can move and thus alter the exact profile of the plate.
To avoid this drawback, the elements are hollow (FIGS. 5,6) and their surface is pierced with holes 59 in the zone to which the tape 34, 34 'adheres. The elements are placed in communication by means of the outlets 58 with a vacuum duct, not shown for simplification, when the crew 32 is lowered onto the crew of the carriage 31, with a view to maintaining the tapes 34, 34. 'adherent to the respective support elements 33, 33'.
When the plate is removed by means of the vacuum elevator 49, the vacuum is ceased and the procedure described is carried out.
In figures 3 and 4 which relate to the detail of the press for molding corrugated plates, it can be seen that the shaped elements 33 of the lower series, as well as the shaped elements 33 'of the upper series, moved in a series relative to the other, have on the side opposite to their shaped surface, a lead screw 40, respectively 40 ', into which are screwed the threaded sections of the shafts 38, respectively 38', carried by the carriage 31 and by the crew 32 of the movable part of the hydraulic press, 37 of which indicates the pressure cylinder.
The pitches of the threaded sections of the shafts 38,38 'have their maximum value at the ends with respect to the mean axis of the machine, and are reduced towards the center in order to be able to obtain, by the rotation of the shafts 38, 38' during the lowering the crew 32 onto the carriage 31, bringing the elements 33, 33 'together in the manner indicated above.
The rotation is transmitted to the shafts 38, 38 'by means of the motors 39, 39e and the transmission 41, 41'.
Of course, the constructive details of the machine may vary, without departing from the scope of the invention; in addition, any suitable material other than asbestos cement can be used for the plates.
