PERFECTIONNEMENT AUX FOYERS TRONCONIQUES A COMBUSTION EN.SUSPENSION
AERODYNAMIQUE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
H la distance entre ces deux sections ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENT OF TRUNCONIC SUSPENSION COMBUSTION FIREPLACES
AERODYNAMIC.
The present invention is an improvement to hearths, ovens., Gasifier or the like, in the form of a truncated cone, with a substantially vertical axis, with little upward divergence (angle of the wall with the vertical approximately 15), in particular at those where the volume of the frustoconical chamber differs only very little from that of the geometrical cone of the same base obtained by extending the truncated cone to its summit (about 98) and using fuels in small grains burning in suspension aerodynamic stable thanks to an ascending air current which decreases from bottom to top and in a strong proportion.
In such hearths, it is observed that a ring of clinker more or less adherent to the wall is formed at the lower level of the fire. It forms at a variable level depending on operating conditions so that it is not always accessible for cleaning.
It is noted that the formation of this ring up to a certain limit ;, improves combustiono But it would go on growing until obstructiona
In addition, below a certain rate which varies with the fuels, the unburnt content of the ash increases and then at a slower rate the fire goes out. The lower opening of these hearths having a constant diameter, the adjustment possibilities are often insufficient for the needs.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
It consists in artificially producing this beneficial ring and in forming its wall - so that the clinker cannot adhere.
It consists of extending the combustion chamber of the hearths defined below downwards by a small truncated cone (height of the order of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
twentieth of the main truncated cone) with strong downward convergence to form a constriction.
This frustoconical constriction is delimited by a wall of refractory material subjected to partial external cooling determined by the thickness and thermal conductivity of this material so that the wall does not lend itself to adhesion, while limiting the loss of heat.
The additional truncated cone is defined as follows If d is the diameter of the section at the neck,
D is the diameter of the connection to the main truncated cone.
H the distance between these two sections;
H must be between Oe2 and 2 d
D must be between 1.5 and 4 d the superimposed digits correspond preferably.
The angle with the vertical of the wall of the constriction which gives the best results is between 35 and 55.
The best ratio of diameters D / d is between 1.5 and 2.5 and exceptionally 3.
These dimensions are specially claimed without, however, excluding from the invention the neighboring dimensions corresponding to the description and to the results above.
The wall of the truncated cone forming the constriction is formed by the combination of a material of great hardness such as slabs of carborundum form or refractory castings with a high alumina content with well-dosed cooling means of the material. outer wall of this material so that it retains its resistance to both abrasion and any clinker adhesion.
For this, the external way is in contact either with an air circulation and in this case comprises fins and an activated ventilation, or more generally with a water circulation.
This constitution of the wall can be extended above the constriction, to the frustoconical combustion chamber proper with low divergence.
The invention further consists in placing under the lower orifice of the constriction an additional movable truncated cone which is applied at reduced speeds against this orifice, or placed at an adjustable distance to allow progressive adjustment. The lower opening of the additional cone is smaller than that of the oddball. This device makes it possible to maintain a more or less constant speed of the upward wind and a sufficient load-bearing force even at reduced gaits.
A characteristic of the invention consists in the realization under the bottom of the hearth with great divergence defined above of an annular slot of adjustable height, the walls above and below this slot being constituted either by water-jackets, or by semi-cooled refractory which does not lend itself to the adhesion of ashes. This usually occurs at the location of any air inlet on walls heated to high temperature.
The mobile reducer is, depending on the case, extended at its lower part by a convergent. It then takes the form of a nozzle with a vertical axis.
By way of example, and to facilitate understanding of the description, there is shown in the appended drawings g - In FIG. 1 the assembly of a fireplace and of the complete device which is the subject of the invention:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
- (1) is the large main frustoconical combustion chamber with low divergence.
- (2) the small lower frustoconical part with strong divergence forming a constriction.
- (3) the "reducer" in its upper position o - (4) the same "reducer" in its lower position; the vertical translation being ensured by slides (5).
- In figure 2 -. a variant in the form of a cup in profile eliminating the sharp angle of the connection of the two truncated cones of FIG. The profile better matches the gas streams.
- In Figure 3 a schematic view of a variant with an annular outlet channel for bottom ash in the liquid state.
The arrows drawn in FIG. 2 show how the throttling creates an annular peripheral zone of less turbulence favorable to the descent of the pasty or molten clinker, following the arrows f along the walls, downwards.
In FIG. 3 the liquid ash collects in the annular ridge 13 which surrounds the constriction 12. From there it flows through the duct 14 without being thwarted by the upward air current.
In FIG. 3, the collecting channel 6 is placed at a certain height above the constriction 7. In the frustoconical wall there are evacuation grooves 8 through which the liquid ash flows in jets 9.
FIGS. 4 and 5 give views, respectively in horizontal section along the line II - II of FIG. 4, of the way in which the wall is continued in the zone of the constriction. Line a b represents the approximate maximum level where the incandescent grains of clinker, which gradually descend to the lower orifice 10, being cooled by the cold air which rises, begin to become sticky.
The hard and cooled wall which constitutes a characteristic of the invention and on which this adhesion has not taken hold extends from the plane II-II to the neck 10. It ensures the passage without adhesion of the jaw of the. upper zone to below port 10.
The lining 11 of refractory material is made of slabs in the form of frustoconical sectors constituting the elements of the truncated cone. They are for example made of carborundum or refractory cast iron or of a refractory material with a high alumina content. The inner wall 12 of the water jacket is in direct contact with the slabs. The heat absorbed by radiation is thus limited to the value necessary for the intended purpose against adhesion and abrasion.
However, in the lower part constituting the neck 13, the lower metal wall of the water jacket can be left bare, the ineffectiveness against the adhesion having to be maximum in this short zone.
The water is brought to the water jacket by the tubes 14. At 15 is a drain and extraction pipe.
If the water jacket water circuit is connected to the boiler, it is sized to withstand the pressure. The water evacuation tubes 16 can go up along the inner wall of the fireplace to form vaporizer tubes connected to a boiler tank of the boiler, these tubes being of the category usually designated "wall tubes. ".
The refractory lining of the truncated conical water-jacket can be made of cement or refractory mastic held by lugs integral with the metal wall.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The water jacket can also be treated with a vaporizer and a superheater.
FIG. 6 shows especially the adjustable nozzle made with a water jacket.
- (17) is the bottom of the fireplace cooled with water and drawn in convergent -, divergent.
- (18) is the convergent of the reducer forming at (19) a neck of smaller diameter than that of the bottom of the hearth (17).
- (20) is the water-jacket at the bottom of the fireplace.
- (21) that of the mobile reducer, guided by slides (22) in the vertical translation.
FIG. 7 shows a device for continuously varying the lower diameter of the additional adjustment truncated cone.
Parts 23 in the form of radially cut truncated cone slices overlap each other always in the same direction. Only a few of these parts are shown for clarity of the figure. They are made, for example., Of refractory cast iron.
Each of these parts pivots about a horizontal axis 24. Their cross section is beveled so that the interior surface is as regular as possible.
The axes form the sides of a polygon. By acting on one of the elements 23, or by the simultaneous rotation of these axes., A truncated cone with a variable orifice is produced.
