PROCEDE DE FABRICATION DES PASTILLES DE METAL SENTANT AU FILAGE, ET
PASTILLES OBTENUES PAR CE PROCEDE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ainsi qu'il a été dit, la machine représentée utilise comme ma- tière première un fil métallique 1 de dimension sensiblement inférieure à celle de la pastille à obtenir, par exemple 10 mm. de diamètre pour une pas- tille de 20 mmo Ce fil 1 est poussé de façon continue à travers un orifice de dimension correspondante, ménagé dans le bâti 2 de la machine, par rapport auquel peuvent se déplacer, suivant des mouvements synchronisés et par un mé- canisme usuel non représenté, les trois organes suivants : une butée 3 limi- tant l'enfoncement du fil 1, c'est-à-dire déterminant la quantité H dont il fera saillie par rapport au bâti 2 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
'camps que le couteau 4 et sa butée élastique 5 sont ramenés en arrière à leur position initiale.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING METAL PELLETS SMELLING ON SPINNING, AND
PASTILLES OBTAINED BY THIS PROCESS
A process has long been used for manufacturing hollow metal objects such as tubes for pharmaceutical products, pocket electric battery mount, etc., from a metal pellet with a diameter substantially equal to the outside diameter of the tube. get.
In accordance with this procedure, the pellet is placed in a die of corresponding diameter and subjected to the action of a punch of a diameter substantially equal to the internal diameter of the tube to be formed. This punch flattens the pellet to form the bottom of the tube, while the quantity of metal corresponding to this flattening goes up along the body of said punch to form the body of the tube.
This process called "spinning process!" Is commonly used for easily malleable metals such as lead, tin, aluminum, zinc and it is known to be much more economical than the conventional stamping process which requires many passes before arriving at the final result.
The pellets intended for the implementation of this process are, according to known processes obtained by cutting from a rolled metal plate of any size using tools with single or multiple punches. To reduce metal losses as much as possible. , these washers are cut out in staggered rows, as shown diagrammatically in fig. 1.
Nevertheless, these pellets having a relatively large thickness, it is necessary, in order to have clean cuts, to reserve a relatively large distance between two neighboring washers. In practice, the waste is significant; for example, to obtain 100 kilos of pellets, it is necessary to use a plate of 135 kilos or 35 kilos of waste. On the other hand, it will be noted that multiple punch cutting tools require a fairly expensive maintenance.
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing pellets intended for the implementation of the spinning process, eliminating all
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
manufacturing waste, making it possible to obtain absolutely regular pellets, and the fibers of which are also oriented perpendicular to the plane of the pellet, that is to say parallel to the direction in which the spinning punch acts, which facilitates manufacturing and ensures better resistance of the tube finally obtained.
The method according to the invention is based on the same principle as the closed-die machines used for the manufacture of rivetsq rolling balls and others, that is to say it uses, as raw material, a metal wire of diameter smaller than that of the pellets to be obtained, automatically cut into sections, each section being transported in a die of dimension corresponding to that of the pellet to be obtained where it is subjected to the action of a punch, which crushes it to bring it to the desired dimension, an ejector then projecting the formed pellet.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically in figs. 2 to 6 a machine for carrying out the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the machine at a first stage of manufacture.
Fig. 3 is a corresponding sectional view through III-III fig 2.
Figs. 4 to 6 are views similar to FIG. 2 showing various stages of operation.
Figs. 7 and 8 show comparatively the constitution of the pellets according to the invention and the pellets obtained by the usual processes.
As has been said, the machine shown uses as raw material a metal wire 1 of dimension substantially smaller than that of the pellet to be obtained, for example 10 mm. diameter for a 20 mmo pellet This wire 1 is pushed continuously through an orifice of corresponding size, made in the frame 2 of the machine, relative to which can move, following synchronized movements and by a - usual canism not shown, the following three members: a stop 3 limiting the penetration of the wire 1, that is to say determining the quantity H which it will protrude from the frame 2;
a knife 4 sliding in an alternating movement along the frame 2, so as to shear the section of wire 1a flush with this frame the front edge of this knife 4 having a semicircular cut so as to fit this section de-fil la. An elastic stopper 5 applies the section of wire 1a against the bottom of the groove of the knife 4 after shearing this section and accompanies the knife in its course as will be described.
In the frame is formed in front of the hole for the passage of the wire 1, a cylindrical housing 6 of a dimension equal in depth than in width, to that of the pellet that is to be obtained.
In the bottom of the housing 6 is disposed an ejector 7 driven in a reciprocating movement, moving in the direction of the arrow F, to eject the finished pellet as will be described.
Above this housing 6 on the other hand moves perpendicularly, a punch 8 intended to crush the section of wire 1a in order to shape it in the manner which will be described.
The operation of the device is as follows: the stop 3 being adjusted to a suitable height, the knife 4 with its elastic stop 5 and the punch 8 occupying the positions shown in figs. 2 and 3, the thread 1 is advanced until its end comes to rest against the stop 3, the elastic stop 5 pressing the end 1 of this thread against the bottom of the groove of the knife 4. The knife 4 and its stop 5 are then moved in the direction of the arrow F 'to cut the section 1 and bring it to the position of FIG.
4 that is to say in the axis of the housing 6. The elastic stopper 5 is then released to drop the pellet 1a into the bottom of this groove as shown in FIG. 6. Immediately after, punch 8 descends in direction Fl at the same
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
'camps that the knife 4 and its elastic stopper 5 are brought back to their initial position.
The punch 8 then crushes the pellet 1a until it occupies the whole of the housing 6, the length of the section obviously being determined as a function of the dimension of this housing 6 so that this section occupies; in the form lb (Fig. 6), substantially the same volume as in the initial form la. With the punch then raised, the ejector 7 moves in the direction of the arrow to drive out the finished pellet., -
The machine is then ready to operate again following the same cycle which has just been described.
Of course, the machine which has been described can be multiple, that is to say act simultaneously on several sections of wire and include a multiple punch. The pellets obtained by the process described are perfectly regular from the dimension point of view, and use as raw material a yarn which leaves no manufacturing waste.
As has been shown schematically in fig. 7, the metal fibers of the finished pellet 1b remain oriented in the same longitudinal direction as the wire 1 from which it was obtained, that is to say are perpendicular to the plane of the pellet. On the contrary, (figo 8), the pellets cut from a sheet rolled by the known methods have fibers oriented longitudinally- .ment.9 that is to say parallel to the plane of the pellet. The fibers of the tablets according to the invention are therefore oriented in the direction of the threading section, which facilitates the action of the latter, reduces manufacturing waste, and eliminates the brittleness which sometimes the tubes obtained from. lozenges of known type.
CLAIMS 1 / A method of manufacturing pellets used in the manufacture of closed tubes by "spinning" characterized in that 190n cut out of a metal wire with a diameter smaller than that of the pellet that one wants to obtain, sections of length greater than thickness of the pellet to be obtained; after which said sections are subjected to the Inaction of a punch which crushes them in a housing of the same shape and size as the pellet to be obtained.
