SEPARATEUR A AIMANT PERMANENT.

<EMI ID=2.1>
Cet aimant annulaire,
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
Les produits de toute espèce à séparer sont introduits pendant la rotation de l'enveloppe, dans les champs de blocage du creux annulaire;
PERMANENT MAGNET SEPARATOR.
The invention relates to a separator of cylindrical shape called
in separating fine and very fine particles, in particular also particles susceptible only of weak magnetization from bulk products of all kinds, as well as pasty, liquid, gaseous products and media presenting themselves as dust or powders of various consistencies. The permanent magnet or electromagnet cylinders, used for this purpose to date, are internally provided with magnetic systems which generate on the surface of the cylinder magnetic circuits extending to the outside and very widely open, in order to achieve greater action in depth, directed outwardly. The magnetic fields are relatively intense at various places on the surface of the cylinder (s); they dislocate however strongly as they move away from this surface and undergo
considerable dispersion. Such separator cylinders are not suitable
than under normal conditions, that is, to separate large particles of iron from a bulk mass. When it comes to separating extremely fine ferrous particles from pasty or liquid pulverulent media or from gaseous media with a high proportion of impurities and, more especially, when it is aimed at separating particles with low magnetization, the action such separators become problematic and imperfect due to
uneven magnetic dispersion in the vicinity of the lateral area of the cylinder, that is, in close proximity to the surface of the cylinder, these particles undergo due to the high density of the field in this location, a relatively efficient separation, which is no longer the case at a small distance from the lateral area of the cylinder and when the mass is present in a thick layer, this because of the dislocated and strongly dispersed magnetic field. Therefore, the thicker the layer of the mass or the higher the density of the media to be separated, the more imperfect and incomplete the separation of the magnetizable particles becomes with their distance from the lateral area.
A solution consisting of an iron cylinder offering magnetic permeance and rotating between two fixed poles of an electromagnet, in order to produce the separation of weakly magnetic material from the bulk mass in the narrow slots delimited through these poles and the rotating cylinder, the poorly magnetizable particles in this case mainly undergoing only an angular deviation allowing their separation from the moving mass. However, these devices were also not able to fully satisfy the requirements, as the slits, which must be relatively narrow in order to achieve an intense force field, only allowed small amounts of bulk material to pass. ,
The present invention relates to a separator operating on the principle of the permanent magnet and which does not have the above-mentioned defects. This is a device that works automatically and in which, thanks to the combined action of the envelope and the internal magnetic system of particular construction, a rotating hollow provided in this envelope is produced in a magnetic blocking field. annular shape with a relatively large opening and high density, this field being thus able to eliminate from the media which pass through it, extremely fine particles, even those which hardly undergo a magnetic action
The accompanying drawings show some examples of the separator according to the invention:

monobloc which has a right part and a left part each comprising several bars 1 forming as many permanent magnets. The magnetic bars 1 of the two parts are supported by the outer edges of the opposite faces of permeable circular discs 2 rigidly joined together, these bars being arranged parallel to the axis of rotation, concentrically around the latter and with the identical poles. oriented in the same direction (Fig. 2), while the poles turned towards the inside of the magnetic bars 1 have opposite polarities (Figo l) o The rigid assembly of the ferromagnetic discs 2 between them is usefully ensured by a section

permeable 2 and the tube 3 can form a single molded part, for manufacturing reasons for example. The distances between the permeable discs
2, to which the magnetic bars 1 are attached, are chosen so as to determine, between the interior and opposite poles N and S, an appropriate annular magnetic gap with strongly directional lines of force. As it is impossible to obtain, when making the magnetic bars
1, that these always show a uniform flux, the inequalities which manifest themselves in the magnetic field can be eliminated by replacing
magnetic bars by a single ring magnet. This ring magnet,
<EMI ID = 3.1>
as has been demonstrated in practice, such ring magnets can exhibit differences in structure and therefore generate different effects in the different active areas of the magnetic field. In order to remedy this drawback and achieve an absolutely homogeneous blocking field, between the opposite poles, the invention provides an arrangement consisting in covering the interior poles with permeable annular bars 5 which capture the polar radiation of the bars 1 or of the annular magnet so that one obtains at all points between the inner poles, a uniform annular blocking field, erect, and oriented in the axial direction.
The closed magnetic circuit thus established comprises the magnet 1, the permeable disc 2, the yoke 3 mounted on the shaft, and the other permeable disc and its magnet 1; and is only interrupted by the annular air gap formed between the permeable discs 5, the central yoke 3 mounted on the shaft 4 being at absolute zero magnetic potential. In order to make these magnetic systems usable for the application envisaged by the invention, they are surrounded by a casing of non-magnetic material for example, mounted on the shaft 4, so that part of the surface of the casing has a hollow of rectangular section, which goes completely around the periphery, which sinks into the gap formed between the two parts of the magnetic system, and which serves to guide the media to be separated.
The casing can be in one piece, or else have three parts, this for assembly reasons and in accordance with Rod 1, namely, the left half 6, the right half 7 and the middle part 8 located axially in the hollow and having the lateral annular discs 9, 10. It is however just as possible to connect the internal magnetic systems rigidly to the non-magnetic cylindrical casing, so that the whole of the separator can rotate in the bearings III. , without affecting the operation of the separator, ensure that only the cylindrical casing turns around the shaft 4, the latter as well as the magnetic systems being mounted fixed in the bearings
<EMI ID = 4.1>
The products of all kinds to be separated are introduced during the rotation of the casing, in the blocking fields of the annular hollow;
so that, under the influence of the intense and rigidly directed magnetic blocking field, the magnetizable constituents of the media in question see their movement strongly slowed down and separate from the mass by adhering to the annular discs 9, 10 of the hollow, while the non-magnetizable products pass through the annular groove without being influenced. According to Fig. 3, the magnetizable products which adhere to the annular discs 9, 10 can be guided on a scraper 12 and removed. When the mass to be separated comprises constituents with weak magnetization, it is not necessary to use a scraper, since a deviation of a reduced angle of the magnetizable products is already sufficient to ensure the separations.
In order to reinforce the rigid directionality of the lines of force of the separator - which, as described above, already provides an excellent degree of separation - and to prevent the lines of force of the blocking field from breaking up and swell somewhat at the outer and lower peripheries of the permeable bars 5, a circumstance which could still be detrimental in certain borderline cases relating to the particularly delicate separation of certain media, the invention proposes that the annular discs 9, 10 of the hollow of the envelope are formed of a material offering a magnetic permeance In this case, the lines of force pass from the permeable bars 5 of the inner poles to the permeable annular discs 9, 10 of the envelope by which they are concentrated and directed,
so that the swelling can no longer be as accentuated as before The axial part 8 of the hollow of the casing is formed, here also,
in a non-magnetic material, in order to prevent any short-circuit between the opposite NS poles. Consequently, the presence of such annular discs 9,10 made of a material offering magnetic permeance produces a new effect improved over that of the embodiments described so far.
Another way to prevent swelling and dislocation of the lines of force of the blocking field outward and inward along the axis
and to further improve the aforementioned effect, consists in placing on the axial and non-magnetic part 8 of the hollow another permeable annular plate
13, so that the lines of force starting from the permeable discs 5 of the inner magnetic systems and passing through the flanges 9,10 of the casing are forced to follow the path of least resistance, passing through
the annular plate 13, during their journey from N to S, so that we now obtain between the inner poles a perfectly blocking field
