BARRE D'ACCORD.

On peut faire glisser les pièces de contact 20 le long des conducteurs en U 10 et 12 quand il faut changer la longueur effective de la barre d'accord ou ligne de transmission;
Comme le montre la figure 3 afin d'obtenir une pression de contact suffisante, les pièces de contact 20 des faces intérieures 17, 19, 21 et 23 des extrémités 16 et 18 de la barrette de court-circuit peuvent être munies de ressorts de pressiono Une tringle isolante 22 est rigidement fixée à la barrette de court-circuit 14 et sert de commande pour régler la position de la barrette de court-circuit le long des pigées conductrices en U 10 et 12;

CHORD BAR.
The invention relates to tuning devices for high frequency heating circuits and more particularly relates to variable inductance tuning bars used mainly in capacitive circuits heated by dielectric losses.
Trombone type transmission line tuning bars with a short circuit slide bar are commonly used to tune the electrode device of dielectric heaters for optimum energy transfer. of tuning bar is however very imperfect, because the short-circuit bar wears out very quickly and gives rise to bad electrical contacts which cause unwanted arcs and even sometimes the complete destruction of the transmission line and of the sliding bar o When the operator is inexperienced, he can also overheat the contacts of the sliding bar by wanting to modify the adaptation of the dielectric heating circuits.
The main object of the invention is to provide a tuning bar of the sliding bar type of easy handling and of very simple construction, capable of accepting higher currents than before.
According to a preterite embodiment of the invention, a transmission line is made up of U-shaped conductors with a short-circuit sliding bar, the contact device of which allows good distribution of the usual intense high-frequency currents in high frequency dielectric heatingo This good distribution is obtained by means of U-section conductors, made of aluminum, the conductive section of which and the contact surface are larger.
In addition, the short-circuit sliding bar has a greater number of contact points which apply to two faces of each U-shaped conductor, and if necessary the bar could even slide on three faces of each conductor in Uo The current is thus distributed evenly between the various contact faces. Thanks to this double advantage of the uniform distribution of the current and the increased

tion of the contact surface, the current density at each contact is considerably reduced compared to old type tuning bars.
The invention will emerge clearly from the following description of a preferred embodiment, shown, by way of example, in the appended drawing.
Figure 1 is a cross-section on a large scale, taken on line 1-1 of Figure 2, of a variable inductance tuning bar.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same chord bar; and
Figure 3 is a detail view, in section, of one of the contact parts,
The apparatus shown in FIG. 1 comprises a pair of transmission line conductors 10 and 12 having a U or V section. An electrical shorting bar 14 is disposed between the conductors 10 and 12 of the line. transmission line and can be moved along these so as to vary the length of the short-circuited transmission line to be connected to the external circuits o The respective ends 16 and 18 of the short-circuit strip 14 connected to the conductors respective 10 and 12 of the transmission line are in the form of L-pieces consisting of parts 1719, 21 and 23 respectively.
The inner faces of the parts 17, 19, 21 and 23 constituting the ends 16 and 18 of the short-circuit bar 14 face the U-shaped conductors 10 and 12 and are lined with a large number of electrical contact parts 20. These parts 20 are made of a material having very low strength.
The contact pieces 20 can be slid along the U-conductors 10 and 12 when it is necessary to change the effective length of the tuning bar or transmission line;
As shown in Figure 3 in order to obtain sufficient contact pressure, the contact pieces 20 of the inner faces 17, 19, 21 and 23 of the ends 16 and 18 of the short-circuit bar can be provided with pressure springs. An insulating rod 22 is rigidly fixed to the short-circuit bar 14 and serves as a control for adjusting the position of the short-circuit bar along the U-shaped conductive pegs 10 and 12;
By means of the insulating rod 22, the short-circuit bar 14 is moved along the conductors 10 and 12, in order to vary the length of the transmission line patch bar.
As shown in Figure 2, the U-shaped conductors 10 and 12 of the transmission line are electrically short-circuited by the sliding bar 14. The insulating rod 22 is shown rigidly attached to this sliding bar 14. The U-shaped conductors 10 and 12 of the transmission line can be connected to external circuits by their respective ends 25 and 27.
In general, a short-circuited transmission line whose distance separating the ends 25 and 27 of the short-circuit bar 14 is less than a quarter of a wavelength of the frequency working, presents, between its terminals 25 and 27, an inductive reactance, because the current wave delays on the voltage wave o The position of the short-circuit bar 14 between the U-shaped conductors can be modified 10 and 12 with respect to their ends, to vary the short-circuited length of the transmission line which in turn changes the inductive reactance represented by the transmission line which thus acts as a variable inductance device.
The variable inductance device shown in Figure 1 can be used for parallel or series tuning of a load circuit such as a dielectric heater The short-circuit strip 14 whose L-shaped ends 16 and 18 composed of contact carrier plates 17, 19, 21 and 23 themselves lined on their inner faces with a series of contact pieces 20, can be moved parallel to the conductors 10 and 12 to change the effective length of the bar. tuning or short-circuited transmission line o When the ends 25 and 27 of the transmission line opposite the short-circuit strip 14 are connected in series with a load to be tuned or are put in parallel across its terminals ,
we can use
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the variable inductance of the short-circuited transmission line tuning bar to compensate for variations in load impedance due, for example, to heating. By varying the effective length of the transmission line patch bar its inductance is varied and load impedance variations can be compensated for. With U-section transmission line conductors 10 and 12, the current flowing in the transmission line is distributed over a larger area of the conductor.
