MOYEU DE ROUE NOTAMMENT POUR BICYCLETTES ET MOTOCYCLETTES, AVEC DYNAMO
D'ECLAIRAGE ENCASTREE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

WHEEL HUB ESPECIALLY FOR BICYCLETS AND MOTORCYCLES, WITH DYNAMO
RECESSED LIGHTING.
The invention relates to a wheel hub for bicycles, motorcycles, etc., provided with a built-in lighting dynamo. The rotating element of the dynamo is coupled directly to the hub box. This arrangement is advantageously distinguished from the many embodiments of hubs with built-in dynamo proposed to date by the fact that it does not include any mechanical transmission system and therefore has a construction as simple as possible, which ensures a long useful life, while requiring very reduced care. It has also been proposed, in a hub with a built-in dynamo, to directly couple the rotating element of the latter to the hub, so that it rotates at the relatively low speed of the wheel. However, in this case, the wheel was asymmetric.
Only one side of it could accommodate spokes of normal length, while the spokes on the other side of the wheel had to be noticeably shorter. On the other hand, this realization gives rise to considerable difficulties as regards the protection of the dynamo against humidity, dust, etc. coming from outside.
. The invention eliminates the drawbacks of the aforementioned constructions. It also provides a series of other advantages, which will be explained below.
The invention consists firstly in the fact that, in a hub with a built-in dynamo, the rotating element of which is coupled directly to the box of the hub., There is provided at the two ends of this box, the middle part of which is widened so as to form a protective casing for the dynamo, crowns of holes with equal diameters and intended for mounting the spokes in metal wire of normal length.
Here, the rotating element of the dynamo need not necessarily
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
be secured to the hub box with screws or the like. On the contrary, it is preferable to connect this element to the hub by a separable coupling, so as to be able to completely disconnect the dynamo during the summer months, so as to eliminate the drive, even when empty, of this der. - Nièreo According to the invention, the rotating element of the dynamo is mounted on the fixed wheel axle using a preferably self-lubricating bearing.
This bearing undergoes only slight stresses, especially since no force acts in the direction of this axis and that, in practice, only the rotational forces act in the plane which is perpendicular to it, the latter being more or less evenly distributed all around.
The forces acting in the direction of the wheel axle and due to the tension of the spokes can be transmitted either by the axle or by the hub box. When the latter is widened in its middle part in order to form a protective casing for the dynamo, it is preferable that the walls of this flared part, which are more or less perpendicular to the axis of the wheel, are established so as to be able to absorb the aforementioned stresses without deformation. To this end, it is especially advisable to arrange these walls obliquely with respect to the axis, that is to say, so that they act in the manner of struts. It may also be advisable to further protect the aforementioned surfaces against deformation, by applying an appropriate stamping or in any other way.
The accompanying drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention in vertical section.
On the axis 10 of the hub is fixedly mounted a disc-shaped body 11, the periphery of which carries a series of coils 12 turned towards the axis 10. The disc 11 is lined with a bearing 11a of brass or the like, wedged on axis 10 by means of a grub screw llb. Inside the coil drum 11, 12 is arranged a magnetic ring 13 which, in the example shown, constitutes a multipolar permanent magnet. The crown 13 is mounted on the axis 10 using the hub 14 in the form of a disc. The latter is lined with a self-greasing pad 15, for example made of an agglutinated or synthetic material.
In the example shown, the pad 15 rotates on the emerging end of the fixed brass bush 11a, so that a concentric rotation of the rotating parts 13,14 in the interior of the coil circle will always be ensured. coils 11 and a stop ring 16 prevent axial displacement of the rotating elements 13,14.
To generate current in the fixed coils 12, it is necessary to rotate the magnetic circle 13. This is obtained with the aid of the coupling screw 17 which connects the housing 18a to the hub 14 of the circle 13.
The bearing box of the hub is formed by the side rings 18b which have the rings of holes 18c for mounting the spokes 19 and the rolling ring 20 of the ball bearing, as well as by the flared part 18a forming the housing, located in the middle between the rings of holes 18c and forming a protective casing around the dynamo 12,13 proper. Thus, the crowns of holes 18c of the hub situated on either side of the housing 18a have identical diameters. These diameters correspond to those of the crowns of spoke holes of a normal commercial hub, so that the presence of the embedded dynamo does not prevent the use of spokes 19 of execution and length. current.
As the pressure forces acting in the direction of the axis 10 and due to the tension of the spokes 19 must be absorbed by the hub box 18b, 18a, the walls 18d, generally perpendicular to this axis, have a conical conformation, c that is to say, act as struts to each other.
