WERKWIJZE TER BEREIDING VAN KOFFIESTROOPPOEDER EN VAN TABLETTEN
OF ANDERE GEVORMDE VOORWERPEN DAARUIT
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

PROCESS FOR PREPARING COFFEE SYRUP POWDER AND TABLETS
OR OTHER OBJECTS FORMED THEREOF
This invention relates to a process for manufacturing coffee syrup powder and tablets, cubes, pastilles or other shaped articles therefrom.
As is known, coffee syrup is prepared from glucose, syrup or other sugars and / or from starch production by roasting and after. grind the burning. However, the powder thus obtained has the disadvantage that it hardens quite quickly into a hard cake. In order to overcome this drawback, the coffee syrup is packaged in tin cans, but here too, when the can has been opened several times, a hard mass is formed, making it difficult to remove a product from the can.
It has now been found that this drawback can be overcome by adding to the coffee syrup powder one or more suitable solids in a relatively small amount, namely less than 5%, but preferably about 1%. The substances to be added must be subject to the requirement that they keep the coffee syrup powder loose and that they do not affect the taste or the consumability of the coffee syrup, so in particular that it is non-toxic o These requirements were found to be best met fatty acids, such as stearic acid and its sparingly soluble non-toxic salts, for example magnesium stearate, calcium stearate, aluminum palmitate, aluminum aladate,
Although preference is given to aluminum stearate. Already in amounts of 1% or even slightly less, a coffee syrup powder is obtained which remains completely scatterable and does not crumble at all. Mixtures of the mentioned substances can also be used.
As is known, coffee syrup is very difficult to tablet, while moreover the tablets obtained stick together.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Surprisingly, it has been found that the free-flowing coffee syrup powder obtained according to the invention can be pressed excellently into tablets, pastilles, cubes or similar shaped objects. These do not appear to stick together at all.
The invention is further illustrated by the following examples: Example I.
Coffee syrup powder is mixed with 1% aluminum stearate immediately after grinding. The resulting mixture was also found not to cake at all in a humid atmosphere, but remains a loose powder.
If desired, this powder can be pressed into tablets in an ordinary tableting machine.
Example II.
Freshly ground coffee syrup powder is mixed with 1% stearic acid and then pressed into 1 g pastilles. These do not appear to stick together.
