<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

LAND MOVEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT APPARATUS.
In mines, landslides very often occur which usually cause victims. If these landslides occur suddenly, they are however preceded by slight movements of land, that is to say that the ground, either the roof or the face, exerts first a thrust with slight displacements. before breaking completely.,
The present invention, with a view to announcing the movements of land in mines, consists of an apparatus comprising two elements moved with respect to each other under the effect of a thrust of the land, in order to actuate an alarm,
According to one embodiment, the two elements with relative movement are formed by two rods sliding one inside the other.
One of these rods rests on a fixed support constituted for example by a prop or by the ground itself, the other rod which is advantageously of adjustable length comes to rest on the ground to be monitored; As a result, in position the device wedged between the fixed support and the ground can be more or less vertical or horizontal. One rod tends to be pushed out of the other by a spring which helps keep the device in place.
By their movement, the two rods actuate a switch which closes an electric power supply circuit for an audible warning device and which is preferably housed in a sealed box.
According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, the movements of the sliding rods open the outlet valve of a compressed air tank, which makes it possible to operate a vacuum alarm.
Other features may appear in the following description of the appended drawings, given by way of non-limiting examples of embodiments of the invention.
In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a schematic view showing an electrical device with contacts in the position of use.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
FIG. 2 schematically shows an apparatus according to the invention in which the alarm is actuated by compressed air.
In the figures the same figures refer to the same objects.
An apparatus according to the invention, shown in position in the. Figure 1 essentially comprises two movable elements relative to. the other, and is wedged between a fixed support such as the ground shown at 4 and the ground to be monitored. In the present embodiment, the two elements consist of two rods 2 and 3, one of which slides relative to the other.
The rod 2 terminated by a shoe 5 resting on the ground is of adjustable length that is to say that it can be screwed more or less deeply into a threaded sleeve 6 sliding in the rod 3 and resting on a spring 6 'housed in the 3' cavity. These two rods 2 and 3 are related to a switch enclosed in the sealed box shown diagrammatically at 7; the rod 2 carries the contact 7 'which moves with the latter and which comes into contact with the contact 7 "integral with the rod 3, that is to say that by its movement this rod 2 closes an electric circuit powering an electric horn shown in 8.
On the one hand, a branch of the circuit starts from the battery 9, passes through the conductor 10 to end at the contact 7 "integral with the rod 3 passing through the electric horn 8 the other branch of the circuit is formed by the rod 3 and conductor 12 to end in contact 7 'integral with rod 2. Under pressure from the ground, rods 2 and 3 move towards each other against the action of spring 6'; closes switch 7 by the vent in contact 7 'with 7 "so that horn 8 operates.
In FIG. 2 is shown diagrammatically an alternative embodiment in which the audible warning device 14 operates thanks to the compressed air in the reservoir 11 released when the outlet valve 13 is opened under the effect. of the relative displacement of the rods 2 and 3. The displacement of a rod such as 2 is amplified by the lever system 121.
If the device is in the two figures shown in a vertical position, it is however clear that it can be placed in any position, at the front of the waist, in the side rails, etc ...
