Grâce à cette disposition, le réducteur unique peut être commande de trois manieresidflérentes;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Gear reduction mechanism for lifting devices and other industrial applications.
The invention relates to a speed reduction mechanism specially applicable to lifting devices, winches and Ports-roulatns, etc., but which can also accommodate any other industrial application *
The mechanism according to the invention comprises a single speed reducer, planetary or otherwise, giving the reduction ratio corresponding to the desired speed, said reducer housed in a casing forming a rotating drum being controlled separately or simultaneously by two of them. motors, each equipped with an electric or mechanical brake *
Thanks to this arrangement, the single reducer can be controlled in three different ways;
either by each of the motors separately, or simultaneously by the two motors rotating in the same direction or not.

Different modes of execution of this mechanism can be provided; in the drawing appended to this specification, two embodiments of a mechanism in accordance with the invention are shown, purely by way of example. In this drawing:
Fig.1 is a plan view of a reduction mechanism, according to the first embodiment and Fig. is a corresponding view according to the second embodiment.
In the embodiment shown in Fig.l, the mechanism comprises a speed reducer 1, the reduction ratio of which is set so as to give the desired speed; its casing forming a drum is provided at its ends with journals 2 resting in suitable bearings 3.
This casing can thus rotate around its own axis, provided that a band brake 4 or the like does not immobilize it under the control of the driver of the winch.
The motor or primary shaft 5 of the reducer 1 is controlled by a suitable coupling by a motor 6, the nose of which carries an electric or mechanical brake 7. On the other hand, the receiving or secondary shaft 8 of the reducer carries a pinion 9, which meshes with a toothed wheel 10 integral with the drum 11 of the winch considered. Finally, around the housing of the reducer 1 (a ring gear 12 is fixed, which meshes with a pinion 13 wedges on the shaft 14, parallel to the shafts 5 and 8, of a second motor 15, the nose of which also carries a brake 16.
Under these conditions, the reduction gear 1 can be controlled either by the motor 6 or by the motor 15; in both cases, the receiving shaft 8 rotates through the reduction ratio of the single reducer. In the first case, the housing 1 is held fixed by the band brake 4, which moreover intervenes effectively when the winch is started and when the load is placed. In the second case, the housing 1 turns
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
around the motor shaft 5, which is immobilized by the brake 7.
Operation. - As soon as the motor 6 has started up, it activates the brake 4 gradually and, as soon as the load is lifted, the brake 4 is fully applied, the winch drum then rotates until at the point intended for the load. At this moment, the motor 6 is stopped, consequently its brake 7 blocks the primary shaft 5, and the load acting on the receiving shaft 8 of the reducer, then operating as a multiplier, remains suspended.
With the load at a standstill, the brake 16 of the motor 15 is released, thus allowing the casing 1 to immediately turn in the downward direction, the load thus gradually descending by causing the reduction gear to turn and placing it down. is done at the discretion of the driver by acting either at the. hand, or by any other means, but without the aid of any motor.
It will be noted here that the band brake fulfilled the function of "controller" on a slip ring motor; it can act in the same way on a short-circuited motor which is much more economical. if the motor 15 is started, the brake 7 of the motor 6 being closed and the band brake 4 open, the motor 15 intervenes only to obtain three intermediate speeds, which are obtained as follows : Suppose that the motor 6 gives a lifting speed of 3 meters / minute and the motor 15 a lifting speed of 1 meter / minute, we will obtain the speeds of 3m and 1m by turning the motors separately.
If these motors turn simultaneously in the same direction, the lifting or lowering speed will be 4m, and 2m if they turn in the opposite direction. - We could obviously obtain other speed ranges; thus, if one uses motors with speed variations,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the ranges that one would obtain are more than sufficient to control any device.
In the embodiment shown in Fig.2. the roles of the reducer housing 1 and its receiving shaft 8 are reversed. Thus the pinion 9, which controls the drum 11 of the winch, is now carried by an extension pin 2 of the casing while the ring gear 12, previously secured to the casing, is wedged on the shaft. receiver 8. On the other hand, the band brake or the like 4 is mounted on this same receiver shaft 8.
The operation is identical to that which has been described or with regard to the mechanism of Figure 1 and the corresponding results obtained, all other things being equal, to those obtained with the first mechanism.
