Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

H = h x 1/d soit h d ainsi pour le gasoil ou   mazou   domestique on aura :   H = h
0,850

   L'Objet de la présente demande de brevet se rap- porte donc à UN INDICATEUR DE NIVEAU POUR RESERVOIRS A LIQUIDES INFLAMMABLES AVEC MIRE CONSTITUEE PAR UN TUBE EN VERRE DANS LEQUEL LE NIVEAU EST INDIQUE PAR UNE CO- LONNE D'EAU QUELLE QUE SOIT LA NATURE DU LIQUIDE CONTE- NU DANS LE RESERVOIR A CONTROLER, l'APPAREIL POUVANT SE FIXER A N'IMPORTE QUELLE DISTANCE ET A N'IMPORTE QUEL NIVEAU PAR RAPPORT A CELUI DU RESERVOIR A CONTROLER, LE TUBE-MIRE ETANT SEPARE DU RESERVOIR PROPREMENT DIT PAR UNE OBTURATION HYDRAULIQUE DE SECURITE.

  The apparatus consists of: a) an iron tube "T", or stainless steel, extending to the lower part of the tank to be tested. b) a small sheet metal tank "r" to which is fixed by welding at its upper part a metal tube "t" of any diameter. Another glass tube "v" plunges into this small tank up to about one centimeter from the bottom, the seal between the glass tube and the wall of the small tank is ensured by a packing gland "s. ".

   The upper end of the tube "t" is connected to the end of the tube "T" by means of a small diameter tube "m", easily bendable for installation needs, made of copper, tin, iron. , plastic or any other material impermeable to air.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   In the small tank "r" we put colored water up to any level, ie "n", which will also settle in the glass tube.

   At any point in the tube "t" there is a small tubing allowing air to be blown into the tube "t" by means of an air pump "p". This pump may be a bicycle pump or a rubber bulb analogous to those applied to perfume sprayers. A small tap "f" allows the air insufflation apparatus to be isolated from tube "t", once the equilibrium pressure has been reached.

   When the indicator device is at rest, it is obvious that the level of the liquid to be checked is identical in the reservoir "R" and in the tube "T". Likewise, the level "n" of the small reservoir "r" is also established in the tube "v".

   However, as soon as air is introduced into the tube "t" using the pump "P", the liquid is returned out of the tube "T" and finally all the liquid is discharged and the air escapes freely through the lower "o" end. At this moment the pressure of the air in the tube "T" is equal to that exerted by a column of liquid of the height "H", corresponding to the level in the reservoir.

   This same pressure acting on the surface of the water in the small reservoir "r" causes the water to rise in the tube "V" and the height that the water column will reach will depend on the pressure at the surface. "n", ie the pressure in the tube "T", therefore the height of the level in the tank "R".

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

  If "H" is the height of the liquid in the tank "R" "h" the height observed of the water column in "V" "of" the density of the liquid in the large tank "R" "1" being the density of the water in the small tank, the height "H" of the level "R" will be:
H = h x 1 / d or h d thus for diesel or domestic fuel oil we will have: H = h
0.850
This device can therefore be used for ALL liquids, it suffices to vary the value of "d", density of the liquid in question, by establishing the graduation of the test chart.

   The device eliminates ANY danger that could result from the breaking of the indicator glass, since the accident would have no other consequence than the flow of a few centiliters of water contained in the rod tube.

   The glass indicator is simple and very visible, no delicate organ, nor any mechanism that can go wrong.

   The glass indicator can be at any level expected that the connection between the hydro-pneumatic relay and the reservoir is a simple air tube, which can be of very small diameter. This device is therefore perfectly suitable for tanks for flammable liquids, or bulky liquids buried in the ground, outside buildings. The pneumatic tube "m" is then also put underground and the sighting relay is fixed inside a building, or even in the boiler room, or in an office.

   Operation remains perfect regardless of the distance from the tank to be controlled
This device can also be applied to pressurized tanks, but in this case the glass tube will be closed at the top and put in communion with the top part (excluding liquid) of the tank whose level must be checked. .

   The subject of the present patent application therefore relates to A LEVEL INDICATOR FOR FLAMMABLE LIQUID TANKS WITH A PATTERN CONSTITUTED BY A GLASS TUBE IN WHICH THE LEVEL IS INDICATED BY A COLUMN OF WATER WHATSOEVER. NATURE OF THE LIQUID CONTAINED IN THE TANK TO BE CONTROLLED, THE APPARATUS MAY BE ATTACHED AT ANY DISTANCE AND AT ANY LEVEL IN RELATION TO THAT OF THE TANK TO BE CONTROLLED, THE SIGHT TUBE BEING SEPARATE FROM THE TANK PROPERLY SAID BY A HYDRAULIC SAFETY BLOCK.
