<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Improvements made or relating to infrared ray electric generators".
The present invention relates to electrical generators of infrared rays.
Such generators usually comprise an element, emitting infrared radiation and mounted inside a reflector, which is adjustably fitted on a support, so that the radiation can be directed onto the patient's body.
When such a device is used, the radiation passes from the generator to the patient's body through the open air, and as the free air is continuously disturbed by conduction and convection, it can cause water vapor and infectious bacteria which pass over the surface of the body, and furthermore radiation, does not produce satisfactory hyperemia in a given time cycle.
The object of the present invention is to provide an electric generator of infrared rays, in which
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the mouthpiece of the reflector can be placed in direct contact with the surface of the body to be treated without causing a burn, while producing even hyperemia and providing the advantage of preventing moisture and bacteria in the body. 'ambient atmosphere to come into contact with the body surface.
According to the present invention, an electrical infrared ray generator comprises a casing or frame containing an element emitting infrared rays, and comprising a screen disposed between the element and the mouth of the frame. The interior of the part of the frame which contains the element is shaped like a reflector, and the screen is perforated to allow the passage of heat radiation over a part of its surface which is sized and dis - posed in such a way with respect to the relative positions of the element, of the reflecting part of the frame, and of the screen, that it stops the radiation which would create focal points or foci between the screen and the mouthpiece reflector, and consequently hot places in the place of the latter.
The exterior of the screen is preferably blackened so as to provide maximum radiation from the entire surface of the screen, while preventing the formation of f ormation related to said radiation.
In such constructions, the frame containing the element is divided into two sections, one of which encloses the element and is conditioned internally as a reflector while the other section is separated from the first by the element. perforated notch, and constitutes an open orifice chamber, the mouth of which can be applied to the surface of the body to be treated.
Other details and features will emerge from the description of an electric infrared ray generator, according to the invention, given below by way of example.

non-limiting and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig.l shows an elevational view of such a generator.
Fig.2 shows a perspective view.
Fig.3 is a plan view of a generator, according to the invention, provided with its screen.
In the various figures, the same references indicate identical elements.
An electric generator according to the invention comprises a frame 1 internally enclosing, in its upper part, an element emitting infrared rays, not shown, and comprising a screen 2, disposed between the element and the mouth 3 of the frame and having openings 4 arranged so as to prevent the concentration of infrared rays towards focal points between the screen and the mouthpiece.
In this way, the frame is divided into two sections, the first 5 of which encloses the element and is designed internally as a reflector while the second 6 is separated from the first by the perforated screen 2.
This second section constitutes in a way a chamber with an open orifice, the mouth of which 3, which is applied normally to the surface of the body to be treated, can be provided with a removable extension piece, not shown. The latter, which could consist of an elastic bead, would allow the apparatus to adhere marvelously to the surface being treated, while making perfect the isolation of this surface from the ambient atmosphere.
The perforations in the screen 2 allow the heat reflected in the first mentioned section 5 to pass into the second 6 without creating hot spots, while the application of the device on the surface of the body to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
treatment leads to the formation of two perfect chambers which are isolated from the external atmosphere but are in communication through the openings of the screen.
As the air inside the two chambers is enclosed therein, this air which comes into contact with the surface of the body to be treated is not constantly changing and, therefore, the risk of exposing the surface of the body. body to infectious bacteria from the atmosphere is avoided.
Preferably, the interior of the second section 6 of the frame is made reflective, but to a lesser extent than that of the reflector proper constituted by the internal walls of the first section 5 of the frame, the shape of the second section. 6 preferably being conical or of a shape suitable to avoid the concentration of radiation at the foci which would result in the formation of hot spots on the surface undergoing treatment.
On the other hand, the Eoran will preferably be given a convex shape towards the orifice of the frame.
The device according to the invention not only has the advantage of preventing air changes on the surface to be treated, while producing a dense uniform hyperemia in less time than is the case with existing devices. - a lot, but still can be easily applied in localized places of the body without having to expose to the atmosphere any part of the body during the application of the radiation, since the part being treated is protected against the radiation. The atmosphere by the apparatus, and neighboring parts can be adequately coated or covered, which is not possible in the case of remote radiation apparatus.
On the other hand, it will easily be understood that, given the greater concentration of heat achieved with the dis-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
positive according to the invention, the power used will be less than that which is necessary with current devices.
Finally, the surface to be treated being completely insulated from the humidity of the ambient atmosphere and the air inside the two chambers being therefore very dry, it is possible to use with such a generator temperatures. Noticeably higher tures than those generally accepted in the usual infrared ray treatments.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described above and that many modifications can be made to it without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
