<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Screw pump".
The present invention relates to screw pumps comprising two or more helical rotors engaged with each other and mounted for rotation in an exactly adjusted cylinder, one or more of these helical rotors being provided with balancing pistons. In pumps of this kind, and more particularly in "Imo" pumps, a tight fit can be made between the threads of the helical rotor, and it is possible to turn these rotors in the bores of the cylinder exactly like a shaft in its shaft. bearing. But, and more especially for high pressures, this arrangement requires very little play between the tops of the threads he-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and between the balancing pistons and their bores.
Of course, this arrangement requires that the bores containing the pistons be exactly aligned with the bores of the cylinder or, at the very least, that the differences be much smaller than the expected clearances between the helical rotors and the bores of the cylinder. As a result, the manufacture must be carried out with great precision.
According to the present invention, the arrangement is improved by the fact that, with the helical rotors being mounted in the cylinder, the balancing pistons center bushes which are freely movable, but exactly fitted on these pistons, and kept pressed against abutment surfaces. fixed by the discharge pressure of the pump.
Thanks to the present invention, all the helical rotors can be held or guided only by the bores of the cylinder acting as bearings, the bushings being carried by the balancing pistons of the rotors, which allows to these bushings to center on their pistons and, therefore, also on the helical rotors.
Other characteristics of the invention will be indicated in detail in the description below, with reference to the accompanying drawing by way of example, which represents an embodiment.
Figs. 1 and 2 are views in longitudinal section, respectively in the vertical plane and the horizontal plane, of a pump of the type indicated, comprising three helical rotors.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of part of the pump.
Fig. 4 is a corresponding end view.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, a pump body 1 is provided at the ends with covers 2 and 3, which are fixed to the body by bolts.
In a central preferably cylindrical bore of the body 1 is inserted a cylinder 4 locked by a bolt 5 and having three parallel cylindrical bores arranged so that an interpenetration results. In these bores are respectively mounted: ur. central helical rotor 6 having threads on the right, and two lateral twists 7 having threads on the left. The central rotor 6 is provided with a drive shaft 8 protruding from the body through an opening in the cover 2, and which can be coupled, by means of a coupling plate 9, to a device. appropriate drive or motor.
A liquid entering through a pipe 10 into a chamber 11, formed in one end of the body 1, is retained between the threads of the helical rotors and entrained in a discharge chamber 12 formed in the other end of the body. 1. This liquid is then forced outward 13. A flat-surface sealing washer 14 is sealed against the cover 2 and on the shaft, and thus prevents liquid leakage.
To compensate for the axial thrust exerted on the helical rotor 6 by the pressure of the liquid contained in the chamber 12, the shaft of this central helical rotor 6 is shaped as a piston 15 at the end corresponding to the discharge chamber, while that the end corresponding to the suction chamber has a smaller piston 16.
Piston 15 slides with little play in a sleeve
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
18 provided with an annular rim 18 'applied against the cover 2. This sleeve is blocked in rotation by a tube 19 inserted between this sleeve and the cylinder 4. This tube 19 communicates the chamber 21, between the sleeve 18 and the cover 2, with a channel 20 formed in the cylinder 4 and opening into the suction chamber 11 of the pump. The overpressure prevailing in the chamber 12 applies the sleeve 18 against the cover 2. To keep the sleeve 18 applied against the cover 2, when no overpressure prevails in the chamber 12, a small spring 22 is provided interposed between socket 18 and cylinder 4.
An axial channel 24 formed in the helical rotor 6 and the piston 16, and which communicates with the chamber 12 by a transverse channel 23, transmits the pressure from the chamber 12 to the end of the piston 16, which is engaged with a low play in a self-centering bushing 25, fitted with a 25 'bottom. The lateral helical rotors 7 are provided with pistons 17 each carrying a sleeve 26 of the same constitution.
On their periphery, the bushes 25 and 26 are provided with tabs 27 cooperating with each other to prevent their rotation.
The pressure of the liquid contained in the chamber 12 is transmitted through the channel 24, and an orifice 28 in the bottom 25 'of the sleeve 25, to a corresponding channel 29 made in the cover 3, then to a transverse channel 30, and finally to the bushings 26 of the lateral helical rotors, by channels 31, 32.
Any residual thrust exerted by the central helical rotor 6 in the direction of the suction chamber is absorbed by an annular axial stop 35 rotating on the sleeve 25. Any movement of this rotor in the opposite direction is prevented by the spring. sealing washer 14.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As soon as the pump starts to operate, the pressure in the chamber 12 applies the sleeve 18 against the cover 2, and brings it correctly to the position in which it fits the piston 15. If the surfaces of the cover 2 and annular rim 18 'are carefully machined, the adhesion keeps these elements integral with each other, even when the pressure disappears. The bush 18 prevents vibrations of the shaft 8 and can even absorb the transverse reactions originating for example from an unbalanced coupling member. The sockets 25, 26 automatically align in a similar fashion, thus eliminating any risk of misalignment and undue stress.
