DEMANDE DE BREVET D'INVENTION EN BELGIQUE MODE DE REALISATION DE FAISCEAUX DE TUBES A AILETTES
TANGENTIELLES

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

APPLICATION FOR A PATENT OF INVENTION IN BELGIUM EMBODIMENT OF BEAMS OF FINNED TUBES
TANGENTIAL
In his previous patents, the Applicant has described tubes particularly intended for heat exchangers comprising fins welded 180 to each other and in a direction approximately tangential to the section of the tube. These tubes are arranged in bundles and the fins come end to end so as to constitute around the tubes sinuous flow zones in which the fluid circulating outside the tubes licks them over their entire surface, while being subjected alternately to pressures and depressions that favor

heat exchange.
In its patent application of September 12, 1947 filed under No. 475,985, for "EMBODIMENTS OF FINNED TUBES", the Applicant has described various embodiments of these finned tubes from sheets.
The present invention relates to the production by means of sheets, no longer of a single tube with its fins, but of a whole row of tubes of the bundle, the sheets being suitably stamped, or shaped, and assembled to constitute simultaneously in a single operation the tube bodies and the hollow tangential fins of the entire row.
The description which will follow, with reference to the appended drawings given by way of example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
Fig.l shows a tube bundle established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 shows, on a larger scale, the fragment of a row of tubes in the bundle.
Figs. 3 and 4 show, also on a larger scale, two variant embodiments comprising a middle sheet.
As seen in fig.l, the tubes a with tangential fins b 1 b2 are arranged in bundles, in several rows A, B, C, D etc .. (six vertical rows in the figure).
According to the invention, all the tubes of each row are produced in a single operation by means of two sheets. For this purpose, two sheets c d (fig. 2) are pre-stamped, or shaped in any other way,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
so that, brought together, they constitute, as can be seen in said FIG. 2, the tube bodies a, at the same time as the hollow fins b. At the junction points of each lower fin b 2 of the upper tube a with the upper fin b1 of the lower tube a, the two sheets cd are welded, united, or assembled by any other means, so as to constitute the separate tubes a across the row.
This embodiment, which is particularly simple and economical, makes it possible to produce a whole row of tubes of the bundle in one operation, and the same apparatus will make it possible to produce all the rows of tubes.
To increase the rigidity of the assembly, one can provide between the two sheets c d, a flat middle sheet f (fig. 3) which reinforces the tubes, giving rigidity to the entire row. As can be seen in Figure 4, the middle sheet f1 may have slight undulations intended to promote the shaping of the tubes a during assembly, while promoting the rigidity of the assembly and constituting inside each tube has a diametral plane adapted to the various forces to which the device may be subjected.
It goes without saying that modifications of detail could be made to the embodiment of the invention without departing from its scope.
