<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention constituting a handle.
Fig. 1 is a side view thereof in partial axial section.
Fig. 2 is an end view corresponding to FIG. 1.
The device shown in the drawing constitutes a lever for the manual actuation of a shaft not shown. This device comprises a part 1, of generally cylindrical shape, internally threaded and intended to be screwed and blocked on the end of the shaft to be actuated so as to be axially and angularly fixed with respect to this shaft. This device further comprises an operating member 2 constituting the handle of the lever which is mounted on part 1, as will be indicated. Part 1 has a cylindrical portion 3, engaged in a recess of the same diameter, provided in the member 2; this cylindrical portion and the recess which surrounds it together form an axial and rotational guide for the member 2.
Means for relative angular immobilization of the member 2 with respect to the part 1 are provided on this member and on this part. They consist of an external circular toothing 4, made on part 1 and of an internal circular toothing 5, provided in the end region of the cylindrical recess of the member 2. The toothing 5 is intended for fit exactly around the tooth 4, as seen in the drawing.
The member 2 is retained on the part 1 by means of a screw 6 screwed into this part 1. The screw in question comprises a cylindrical body 7, arranged inside a housing 8 of the member 2. Ce.logement includes a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
part 9 of diameter equal to that of part 7 and able to slide gently over it. It comprises a part of larger diameter in which the head 10 of the screw is located and a compression spring 11, arranged around the body 7 of this screw and bearing, on the one hand, on the head 10 and, on the other hand, on the bottom of the housing 8 to urge the member 2 to come into the position shown in the drawing, for which the teeth 4 and 5 are engaged.
The operation of the device shown is as follows: When the members are in the position indicated in the drawing, the rotation of the actuator 2 in one direction or the other constrainedly drives part 1 and therefore the shaft not shown to which this part is attached. If, on the contrary, one acts on the member 2 so as to move it axially with respect to the part 1 upwards in FIG. 1, the member 2 slides on the cylindrical portion 3 and the part 9 of the recess 8 slides on the body 7 of the screw. The spring 11 compresses and the toothing 5 ceases to be in engagement with the toothing 4. The member 2 can then rotate in one direction or the other without exerting any effect on the part 1 and on the shaft to which it is fixed.
As soon as one ceases to maintain the member 2 in the position for which the spring 11 is compressed, the latter returns the member 2 to the position shown, which brings the teeth 4 and 5 into engagement and secures again angula.irement the organ 2 of the tree to be ordered.
It is easy to understand that the device described offers the advantage of allowing the shaft to which part 1 is attached to be turned, at as large an angle as desired,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
even if an obstacle prevents component 2 from turning more than a certain angle. It suffices, once arrived against this obstacle, to act on the member 2 to release the teeth 4 and 5, and to return empty this member 2 to then put it in the active position and perform a new one. rotation, and so on.
Of course, in other embodiments, the device could constitute not a joystick but, for example, a turn chicken, a steering wheel or any other hand actuator intended to control a rotation.
