<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
'en particulier, mais non exclusivement, à la construction de moteurs, pompes, compresseurs et machines-outil.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Mechanism intended to transform a rotary movement into a reciprocating back and forth movement, and vice versa. @
The present invention relates to a mechanism for transforming a rotary movement into reciprocating back and forth movement, and vice versa.
This mechanism is applicable to the construction of any machine using such a transformation of motion,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
'in particular, but not exclusively, in the construction of motors, pumps, compressors and machine tools.
The mechanism according to the invention comprises an axis, of which an element having at least one circular groove situated in a plane not perpendicular to this axis is rotatably integral with it. A member having at least two branches penetrating into said groove like a fork being provided, capable of oscillating pendularly around another external axis and perpendicular to the first, as well as external to the path of the element having the groove, when it moves back and forth along the axis. supporting.
The appended drawing shows two embodiments of the object of the invention given by way of example.
The first embodiment, according to i'igs. 1 and 2 is rather schematic and intended to explain the operation of the object of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the second embodiment, constituting a two-stroke engine with self-ignition.
In the first embodiment, according to figs. 1 and 2, a base 1 is provided, the brackets 2 and 3 of which support the bearings of a shaft 4.
The central part 5 of said shaft, between the two bearings, has a square profile. It supports a sliding element 6, the aforementioned square profile of which causes the forced rotation.
This element has a circular groove 7, located in a plane not perpendicular to the axis of the shaft, ie. presenting itself, with cheeks 8 and 9 which delimit it, as
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a pulley tilted on a shaft and swinging as it turns.
Into the groove 7 enter the two branches of a fork 10, pivoted at 11, so as to be able to perform a pendulum movement between position 10 in solid lines and position 10 'in phantom lines.
The pivot axis of 11 is perpendicular to the axis of the shaft 4-5 and at the same time is external to it. It is also outside the path of the sliding element 6, when it passes from the position in solid lines 6 to that in phantom 6 '.
The pivot 11 is finally supported by an angled arm 12, capable of oscillating around the pivot 13 under the influence of the displacements of the threaded rod 14, in turn controlled by the rotation of the threaded barrel 15, integral with it. crank 16.
The operation of the described mechanism is very simple.
By imparting a rotational movement to the shaft 4 -5, the sliding element 6 and its inclined groove 7 are forced to participate in it.
In doing so, and given its mode of connection with the fork 10, the sliding element 6 is obliged to perform a reciprocating movement on the shaft.
Indeed, starting from the position in solid lines 6, and whatever the direction of rotation, the inclination of the projection of the groove 7 will be reversed at each half turn, passing from the inclination in position 6 al 'reverse tilt in position 6'.
As the position of the pivot 11 does not change, this reversal can only be done by forcing the fork 10 to oscillate.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ler from 10 to 10 ', therefore pushing the sliding element 6 from one end of the square to the other 5. The next half-turn will cause the return to the starting position.
Thus, the rotation of the shaft 4 -5 does indeed produce a forced reciprocal movement of the element 6, transforming a rotational movement into a reciprocating movement.
This phenomenon is reversible, in the sense that if one communicated a forced back and forth movement to the sliding element 6, this would necessarily result in a rotation of the shaft 4 - 5, in one direction or another. , according to how one would have launched it.
The swing angle of the fork 10 is between the dotted lines A-A, and determines, by its position, the stroke of the sliding element.
By bringing the pivot 11 closer to the axis of the shaft 4-5, for example at 11 ', the angle of oscillation, invariable and determined by the only inclination of the groove 7, is placed at BB, and determines a smaller stroke.
Position 11 'is too close to the axis of shaft 4 - 5, to better show what is happening. This position is virtually unworkable.
However, by acting on the crank 16, the threaded barrel 15 is rotated, the threaded rod 14 advanced or retracted, and thus the pivot 11 moves in the direction of 11 'or vice versa. This is a means of modifying, even when running, the amplitude of the back and forth movement of the sliding element 6.
It is obvious that the fork 10 must have in the groove 7 the necessary play to allow the passage of said groove immediately opposite the pivot 11.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Penetrating into the groove by means of at least two branches, the fork 10 could be replaced by a ring, the extreme form of the fork, when its two branches surrounding the core delimiting the groove, and meet at their ends.
In the second embodiment, according to FIG. 3, the sliding element is a piston 17, going back and forth in the cylinder 18, along a square shaft 19, similar to that of the first embodiment.
This tree carries, on the outside, a flywheel 20.
The inclined circular groove of piston 17 is here occupied by a circular ring 21, an outer radial rod 22 of which can slide in an opening diametrically passing through pivot 23, supported by two bearings, one of which 24 is visible.
It is clear that, just as in the previous example, a rotation of the shaft 19 forces the piston 17 to perform a reciprocating movement and vice versa. The clearance provided between groove and fork in the previous example is replaced here by the possibility of the rod 22 of sliding into the hole which guides it.
It has been said in the enumeration of the figures, that the present embodiment constitutes a two-stroke engine with self-ignition, here is how:
Reaching its top dead center (position drawn), piston 17 evacuated behind it, then uncovered intake port 25, sucking the air-fuel mixture into chamber 18 of the cylinder.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
In its return stroke, the piston closes the light 25, then compresses the mixture, which will finally be transferred through the channel 26 in front of the piston, to finally be compressed in the explosion chamber 18 '.
After ignition, the piston is driven backwards, performing precisely and on each stroke from top dead center drawn to opposite bottom dead center, the work just described.
The exhaust channel 27 is uncovered at each active limit switch.
Self-ignition is produced by the very strong compression of a small quantity of detonating mixture in space 28, remaining between an extension of piston 17 and the bottom of a corresponding housing of the cylinder. The mixture reaches it through the radial hole 29 and the longitudinal channel 30, through which the ignition also takes place.
Segments 31 seal the guide of the shaft 19 on the high pressure side.
It is obvious that the embodiment of the object of the invention which has just been described is only one example among the many possible applications and that by driving the shaft, it would be made into a compressor. , the two-stroke solution without valves not being in any way limiting.,
