<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
'enfin, suivant une autre caractéristique de l'invention, on substitue à la commande double ( pneumatique et mécanique ) utilisée dans le brevet principal, une commande purement méca-
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
nique.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Improvements to inaeration circuit breakers with tripping resistance".
In main patent N 441 122 of April 9, 1941, the Applicant Company has described devices making it possible to insert a resistor into the breaking circuit of an electric circuit breaker, in all cases where this resistor is useful, and to remove it when it is switched on.
The essential characteristics of these devices consist in the fact that they have an organ whose displacement
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
automatic, integral with the operation of the circuit breaker, has the effect of establishing, at the time of the enolenohement, the shorting of the resistance, or the removal of the connection of this to at least one, of the two ends of the circuit-breaker to which the resistor is connected during the first part of the blowdown.
The present invention relates to improvements made to the devices described in the main patent, in particular as regards:
1) The resistance insertion mode and its short-circuiting.
2) The relative arrangement of the main current and reduced current cut-off devices, and, finally,
3) The control device of the seotionnenent arms.
One of the essential characteristics of the invention which is the subject of the present addition consists in the fact that the insertion of the resistor and its short-circuiting are carried out simultaneously or almost simultaneously; this prevents the current from passing through the resistance during the engagement operation. Another peculiarity of the invention resides in the fact that when the triggering occurs first the opening of the main current (thanks to the blowing of air coming from the first nozzle), cut, followed immediately by the opening. insertion of the resistor, after which the reduced current is cut off determined by the blowing of air through a second nozzle.
According to the invention, the cut-off members are arranged relative to each other, so that each of them has a well-defined function to fulfill, one the cut-off of the main current, the other the cut-off of the reduced current.
'finally, according to another characteristic of the invention, the dual control (pneumatic and mechanical) used in the main patent is replaced by a purely mechanical control.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
fuck. This single mechanical control consists of two isolating arms made integral with one another, so as to allow the driving of the main current cutting arm, as soon as the latter has reached an appropriate angular position.
In the accompanying drawing, there is shown, by way of example only and schematically, two embodiments of the invention (Figures 2 and 3), compared to that which is described in the main patent (Figures 40 and 41 de oelui-oi), and which is shown schematically in Figure 1 of the attached drawing.
In the pneumatic blow-off circuit breaker, illustrated in FIG. 1, when the tripping operation begins, the compressed air, which arrives through the insulator 1, passes through the duct s and pushes the piston P upwards; the resistance is therefore inserted as soon as the movable rod T has left the fixed contacts A. Then, it is the secondary rod S which rises, thus ensuring the cutting of the residual current. After the circuit breaker has operated, the piston P returns by itself to its normal position to shorten the resistance, which is thus eliminated when the secondary rod S is engaged.
This device therefore comprises a double wave, that is to say a pneumatic control and a mechanical control; on the other hand, it has the following drawback: if the auxiliary rod S, normally intended to cut the reduced current, opens before the main rod T, it will cut the main current and the reduced current , which leads to providing at I and I 'two identical nozzles and a blowing of equal power in each of them.
FIG. 8 shows, on the contrary, a purely mechanical control device comprising two isolating arms integral with one another and ensuring respectively in all cases, one, the interruption of the main current, the other. , the opening of the reduced current.
As seen in this figure, the circuit breaker comprises
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the new control and cut-off device comprises: a) A nozzle A, in which the main current is cut, and a nozzle B for the residual current cut-off. b) Fixed contacts 1 and 2 arranged in these nozzles. c) A main 3 and auxiliary 4 movable rod, and, finally, d) A resistor R in series with the fixed contacts 1 and
2.
The two movable rods 3 and 4 are made integral with one another using the roller 5.
On opening, when the main rod 3 has moved by a certain angle, the roller 5, carried by this main rod, comes to rest against the left wall of the notch e, provided on the auxiliary rod 4 and thus drives the latter; at the same time it ensures the compression of the spring 6 fixed to the frame, on the one hand, and to the auxiliary rod, on the other hand. On reenolenohement, the reverse movement occurs, and the drive of the rod to! - Liaire 4 by the main rod 3 is supported by the spring 6.
FIG. 3 shows a slightly different operating device. The spring 6 is integral with the two rods 3 and 4. it thus ensures the triggering of the auxiliary rod 4, when its tension has become sufficient. A safety roller 5 is provided to ensure the compulsory opening of the auxiliary rod 4 by the main rod 3 in the event of failure of elasticity of the spring 6. Enolenohenent of this auxiliary rod is ensured by the intermediate roller 5, on which abuts the main rod.
The untimely triggering of the rod 4, under the effect of the blowing, in these last two embodiments, is prevented by a bulge 7, located at the end of said rod and on which the fixed contacts 2 held tight by springs not shown in the drawing, as well as by the spring 6 and the roller 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
On the other hand, if the succession of maneuvering operations is not observed, that is to say if the auxiliary rod 4 comes out of the nozzle before the main rod 3, nothing will be changed in the cuts of the circuit breaker; rod 4 will always cut only the reduced current, (because of the resistor R, which is in series with it), and rod 3 will only cut the main current. The nozzle B can therefore be much smaller than the nozzle A, which leads to a saving in size and blowing power.
