<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
l'enroulement 51.
Cet enroulement
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

The invention is hereinafter described as applying to an AC generator 11, FIG. 1, which has an armature 12 and a field winding or inductor 13. The armature winding is connected. to an alternating current line designated by AC and comprising the conductors 14. 15 and 16. The inductor 13 of the generator 11 is excited by a direct current coming from an exciter 17, which comprises an armature 18 and an inductor 19, connects to an excitation winding circuit 20. The excitation winding 13 of the generator 11 is connected directly to the brushes 21 of the armature 18 ¯ of the exciter 17 by the conductors 22 and 23 .
An adjustable rheostat 24 is connected to conductor 23 through conductor 25 and is also connected to the circuit containing excitation winding 19 as will be described in detail hereinafter.
The device according to the invention comprises a circuit 26 sensitive to the action of the voltage, which is excited by the AC line and which will be designated under the name of resonant circuit and operates in a state close to resonance at the frequency and at normal voltage. This circuit energizes a control circuit 27 connected to a rectifier 28. The rectifier 28 energizes an adjustment circuit 29 which regulates the voltage flowing in the excitation winding 13 of the generator 11. These various circuits are described below in detail.
A transformer 31 comprising a primary winding 32 and a secondary winding 33 serves to energize the circuit 26 sensitive to the action of the voltage. Primary winding 32 is connected by conductors 34 and 35 to any two of the conductors of the AC line.
According to this embodiment of the inventive, the conductors 34 and 35 are connected to the conductors 15
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and 16 of that line. The resonant circuit 26 contains an inductive reactance 36 and a capacitive reactance 37. The reactance 36 consists of a core 38 comprising two vertical branches 39 and 41 and two horizontal core portions 42 and 43 joining the vertical branches 39 and 41. The core 38 further comprises two core portions 44 and 45 protruding outside each side of the branch 41. A magnetic shunt 46 cooperating with the core portions 44 and 45 varies the inductance of the reactance 36 by varying the reluctance of the magnetic circuit of the core 38, so as to vary the flux passing through the branch 41 of the core.
The magnetic lead 46 is mounted on a screw 47 which screws into a support 48 fixed to the core portion 45. By rotating a knob 49 fixed to this screw, the lead 46 can be moved closer or further from the portions 44 and 45 of the core. so as to vary the reluctance of the magnetic circuit.
A winding 51 with current taps surrounds the branch 41 of the core 38 and one end of this winding is connected by a conductor 52 to one of the armatures of the capacitive reactance 37, the other armature of which is connected by a conductor 53 to one end of the secondary winding 33 of the transofmator 31. The other / end of the secondary winding of this transformer is connected by a conductor 54 to a contact arm 55 which cooperates with the sockets of the transformer. winding 51. These two conductors and the two reactors constitute the circuit 26 sensitive to the action of the voltage which was discussed above.
The two resistances 36 and 37 are connected in series in the circuit 26, so that at the desired frequencies, these reactances are substantially equal and form a resonant circuit. This feature is put to good use in regulating the voltage of the generator, as is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
described below in detail.
The control circuit 27 consists of two conductors 56 and 57 which are connected to the conductors 53 and 52 at the primary winding 58 of a transformer 59. This circuit, as can be seen, is connected on each side. of the reactance 37 and is excited by the voltage passing through it. A rheostat 61 serves to adjust the value of the voltage in this reactance and is connected by two conductors 62 and 63 to the conductors 56 and 57. The control circuit 27 energizes the rectifier 28, which consists of four rectifier elements of a half. -waves 64, 65, 66 and 67, which are connected as a bridge by means of the conductors 68, 69, 71 and 72.
The secondary winding 73 of transformer 59 is connected to two conductors 74 and 75, which in turn are connected to conductors 72 and 69 of rectifier 28.
The adjustment circuit 29 comprises two conductors 76 and 77 which are connected respectively to the conductors 68 and 71 of the rectifier 28, The conductor 76 is connected directly to the excitation winding 19 of the exciter 17, while the conductor 77 is connected to the contact arm 78 of a rheostat 79. This rheostat is connected at one end to the conductor 76 and at the other to a conductor 81 which, for its part, is connected to the conductor 77 and to one end of the rheostat 24. The movable contact arm 82 of the rheostat 24 is connected by a conductor 83 to the aforementioned conductor 25.
The excitation circuit 20 of the exciter 17 comprises a conductor 84 which is connected to the excitation winding 19 and to an electric valve 85 which in turn is connected by a conductor 86 to the conductor 22. The rheostat 24 is the rheostat. of ordinary field which is used to regulate the excitation of the inductor of the exciter 17, while the rheostat 79 is a following additional rheostat
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the invention and connected in series with the rheostat 24 and the excitation winding 19.
The operation of the device according to the invention is as follows; the circuit sensitive to. the action of the voltage 26 is excited by the AC line, by the voltage to be adjusted.
This voltage is applied to the circuit 26 by the transformer 31 and, at the frequency and at the operating voltage, puts this resonant circuit substantially in a state: -of resonance. An increase or decrease in this voltage above or below the normal voltage causes a corresponding amplified increase or decrease in the voltage in the capacitive reactance 37 due to the relationship between the reactors 36 and 37. This amplified voltage and applied to the rectifier 28 which, for its part, passes a direct current in the circuit 29. This direct current is applied to the rheostat 79, which passes a voltage in the excitation circuit 20.
The rectifier elements are arranged so as to straighten the full wave and so that the voltage applied to the theostat 79 opposes the. voltage of the excitation circuit 20 produced by the armature 18 of the exciter 17. It can therefore be seen that when the voltage of the generator 11 increases, the direct current flowing in the circuit 29 also increases and much faster.
This voltage opposes the voltage applied to the excitation winding 19 of the exciter, thereby reducing the flux (the magnetic field and the voltage across the exciter and consequently the corresponding voltage in the exciter. excitation winding 13 of the generator 11. To establish a situation in which the voltage in the rheostat 79 compensates for the increase in the voltage in the line of the generator, an approximate adjustment of the value of, the reactance 36 by moving the contact arm 55 on the various sockets of
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
winding 51.
Fine tuning of this reactance can be accomplished by moving the magnetic lead 46 relative to the core portions 44 and 45 of the core 38. In addition, the voltage applied to the control circuit 27 can be adjusted by means of of the rheostat 61 and finally the voltage applied to the rheostat 79 by the movement of the contact arm 78 of this rheostat.
The electric valve 85 consists of an ordinary rectifier element, of sufficient capacity, which is connected to the excitation circuit, so as to pass the current in the excitation winding 19 of the exciter in the correct direction. . In the event that rapid and sharp variations in the voltage of the generator cause a corresponding considerable variation in the voltage of the regulating circuit 29, the valve 85 prevents the reversal of the current flowing through the excitation winding 19. of the exciter and the resulting reversal of the polarity of the exciter.
FIG. 2 represents a variant of the device according to the invention. Since some of the elements of this embodiment of the invention are the same as those of Figure 1, the description of these elements is unnecessary and the corresponding elements are designated by the same humeros preceded by the number 1.
The embodiment of FIG. 2 comprises a stabilizing transformer 87, the primary winding of which is designated by 88 and the secondary winding by 89. The primary winding 88 of this transformer is connected by conductors 91 and 92 between the conductors. 122 and 123 of the excitation circuit of the excitation winding 113 of the generator 111. The secondary winding 89 of this transformer is connected in the circuit 129 by the conductor 177 and a conductor 93. This winding
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
secondary is thus mounted in series with the rectifier 128 and the rheostat 179.
The purpose of the transformer 87 is to significantly reduce the pendulum movement and to return the voltage generated by the exciter 117 to normal as quickly as possible after any variation in the voltage of the AC line.
Instead of using a rheostat connected in series with the exciter field winding and applying the set voltage of the heostat to that rheostat, a separate field winding can be provided for the exciter. tratrix and apply voltage to this excitation winding. FIG. 9 represents a circuit constructed under these conditions. Since most of the elements in figure 3 are identical to those in figure 1, it is unnecessary to describe them again and they are designated by the same numbers, preceded by the number 2.
In the embodiment of the invention of Figure 3, the rheostat 79 is omitted and replaced by an additional excitation winding 94. This winding is mounted on the cores of the exciter inductor next to the windings 219. , but is connected so as to cause current to flow in its turns in the opposite direction to the direction of current flow in winding 219.
The winding 94 is connected to the conductors 276 and 277, so as to apply directly to this winding the voltage produced by the rectifier 228. The winding 94 is sized so that the flux which it generates can seldom, if ever, be. be greater than the flux generated by the main excitation winding 219. It becomes possible under these conditions to reverse the polarity of the exciter field in the ca.s of a considerable variation in the voltage of the generator 211 .
The advantages of the device according to the invention are
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
obvious. Due to the absence of moving parts, it runs indefinitely without supervision. When the device is set once and for all, no further setting is necessary as long as the operation is desired to remain the same. Since the inertia of the moving parts is not involved in the operation of the device, its reflexes become extremely rapid. According to the invention, the voltage variations of the generator can be sufficiently amplified so that the resulting direct voltage can be used directly in the exciter excitation circuit without the need for relays or relays. electronic amplifiers.
The device according to the invention can be easily and quickly adjusted in a simple and convenient manner to achieve the desired operation within the operating limits of the device. When the stabilization transformer is used, the normal voltage of the generator is established quickly, so as to significantly reduce the pendulum movement and the variations in voltage above and below its normal value.
The device according to the invention can be built inexpensively and contained in a small and compact box. It operates between tight limits, so it is necessary to use a generator with low percentage voltage equalization.
The invention should not be considered as limited to the embodiments shown and described, which have been chosen only by way of example.
