<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of a request for
Louis BRUSSELMANS INVENTION PATENT "Device for fixing rigid parts, such as hooks, eyelets and the like to fabrics."
The present invention relates to a device intended to make easier and more certain the attachment to a fabric and, in particular, to a tape, of objects such as hooks, staples, eyelets and other similar objects.
Currently, said objects are fixed to the fabrics either by stitching, or by riveting or else by deformation, often accompanied by crushing, of some of their parts. This method of fixing, on the one hand, relates to the deterioration, more or less great, of the tissue and, on the other hand, the force applied to the fixed object being distributed in an area of secure tissue, very small, there is the danger of destruction of it in these places, In addition, the objects thus fixed, cannot at all, if they are riveted) or else only at the cost of a long work, if they are fixed by seam, be separated from the fabric, which presents a great difficulty in the case of washing and ironing.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and provides a method of fixing rigid objects to the fabrics, which is rapid and capable of being produced in such a way that the objects fixed to the fabric, to the side, of need resulting from a particular application, can easily be separated from it.
For this purpose, the fabric comprises a pocket, formed at the same time as the fabric bottom, so that one of its walls is constituted by the fabric bottom itself, while the other wall is a bifurcation of said bottom made in such a way that the pocket is open on one side over its entire width and closed on the other the / part with however a small opening arranged in the middle of the seal, sufficient for the passage of the active part of the body of the object intended to be fixed.
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the. aforementioned pocket affects any geometric shape, in particular, that of a quadrilateral. A hook, staple, eyelet or another similar object, fabric is fixed by sliding it into the pocket by the open side thereof and by removing the active part of the object through the opening in the closed side. , while the part used for fixing the above object, it is based on at least a large part of the length of the seal joining the bottom of the pocket to the tissue.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the event that the force applied to the active part of the fixed object is constantly directed in the same direction and in such a way that the aforesaid object is pushed against the seal of the bottom of the pocket, the fixing operation can be limited to, the above; otherwise, the aforementioned object will be trapped in the pocket by sewing the exit thereof, which, in the case of several pockets arranged in series one next to the other, can easily be executed by machine .
A ribbon, comprising pockets made according to the present invention provided with hooks, staples, eyelets, etc. can be used as an intermediate part to assemble parts, in any material.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of its ribbons, provided. pockets produced according to the present invention, given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
.uans the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
.Les fig.l to b show ribbons comprising pockets, made according to the present invention, provided with hooks and eyelets.
Fig.6 shows a tape comprising pockets, made according to the present 'invention, as well as a longitudinal pocket allowing the gathering of said tape after another tape has been introduced into the aforesaid longitudinal pocket.
Fig. 7 shows a ribbon, made up of three ribbons joined together all along one of their sides, one of which is provided with pockets intended to fix hooks or similar objects, while the other is provided with a longitudinal pocket allowing the ruffling of the tape after another tape has been introduced into the aforesaid longitudinal pocket.
Fig.8 shows a tape comprising pockets, made according to the present invention, turned in different directions.
Fig.9 shows a hook that can be advantageously used in combination with the pockets according to the invention.
The fig.l and 2 each represent a: fabric tape 1, comprising pockets formed at the same time as the bottom of the fabric. One wall of each pocket 2 is formed by the very bottom of the fabric forming the tape, while the other wall is a bifurcation of said bottom. The pocket 2 is open on side 3 and closed on side 4. a small opening is made in the middle of the seal and allows the passage of the active part 6 of the body of a hook (see fig. 1), or else of a eyelet 8 (see fig. 2) intended to be fixed.
To better distribute the tensions developed in the fabric when a force is applied to the hook 7, the pocket takes the shape of a quadrilateral.
A hook 7 is fixed to the fabric by sliding it into the pocket 2 through the open side 3 of the latter and by removing the active part 6 through the opening made in the closed side 4, while the part 9 serving for the fixing the hook 7 relies on a large part of the. joint length 4.
The pockets 2 can be arranged at judiciously determined distances taking into account the use for which the tape is intended. As, in particular case, they can be arranged at equal distances from each other.
Figs. 1 and show the ribbons whose pockets 2 are arranged such that the entries; 5 are located

in the middle of the ribbon, while the openings b are arranged on the edge of it.
Figs. 3 and 4 show the ribbons, the pockets 2 of which are arranged in such a way that the inlets 3 are trcuvent on the edge of the tape, while the openings 5 are located in the middle thereof.
The depth of the pockets is any It can be less than the width of the tape (see fig.là4), or be equal to it.
The pockets 2 of a ruba, n may be equal or different from each other. lag fig. 8 shows a ribbon whose pockets are arranged in two rows, the dimensions of the pockets of one row are different from those of the other row, moreover, the entries are directed in the opposite direction of the entries of the 'other row.
Fig. 6 shows a tape 1 comprising pockets 2 and a pocket 10 arranged lengthwise of the tape 1, and extending from one end of the latter to the other, so that when introduced a second ribbon 11 into the pocket 10, the ribbon 1 can be gathered.
Fig. 7 shows a triple ribbon consisting of three ribbons 12, 13 and 14, each of which is integral with two others all along one of its sides 15, while the sides 16, 17 and 18 of the ribbons are free . The tape 12 comprises pockets 2, the tape 13 comprises a pocket 10, in this way, the triple tape being fixed along the edge of a fabric, such that the latter is trapped between the tapes 13 and 14; work can achieve a particularly neat finish.
In the ribbons shown in figs.6 and 7, the ppche 10 can be replaced by at least one cord which simply crosses the tape from distance to distance and thus passes alternately in front, then behind tape. The installation of this bead could be done under the ribbon while the latter is in manufacture. It could also be stitched after the ribbon has been woven.
Fig. 9 shows a hook, the shape of which is particularly advantageous for use in combination with the pocket according to the invention. The part 9 of this hook, serving for its fixing, is similar in shape to that of the pocket in the pocket. - what it should be placed and of such dimensions that when it is introduced, it follows the outline.
The device for fixing rigid parts, such as hooks, eyelets and the like, to fabrics and in particular to ribbons, described above is only one particular embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Various structural modifications could be introduced therein without departing from the scope of the present application.
In particular, the fixing of a hook or of a similar object could be improved by closing the outlet of the pocket in which it is placed by any means, for example, by a seam.
