<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
immeubles.
Fig.l,Fig.2 ( plan suivant B-B.)

2 .La partie médiane.Fig.1 et ig.3.(plan suivant A-A,)
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
3 .La partie haube ou chambre de réfrigération.Fig.1 et 4.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"HEATING AND REFRIGERATION BY PANELS" (at low temperature) DESCRIPTION.
The object of the present invention is the creation of apparatus for heating or cooling premises, industrial, residential or for any other use.
The heat sources they can use are diverse: hot water pulsed or by thermosiphon, steam, hot air pulsed or electric resistance.
The sources of cold to be used can also be very different: by circulation of brine, cold water or direct expansion.
The devices which can be established according to the principle of the invention will have the essential characteristic of distributing the heat or the cold which will be brought to them internally by means of an air circuit in a closed vessel, (internal oonveotion) and, externally, by a radiation effect. The calories or the frigories will be dispersed naturally through the walls of these devices.
It is in principle a panel heating system at low temperature and large surface development.
To ensure the air conditioning of the premises, these devices will preferably be placed against the exterior walls of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
buildings.
For heating, they will fight on the one hand against the dispersion of the frigories of the walls by means of their oalorific radiations and, on the other hand, the emanations of the heat rays from the opposite wall will contribute to raising the temperature of the premises to be heated.
For the refrigeration of premises, the phenomena are reversed. Unlike the heating system for which the arrival of calories necessary for the operation of the system is made at the bottom of these devices, the arrival of frigories will be from the top. The air in the upper part will cool and begin to circulate in the same direction as before. The frigories thus transported will, by exchange, be an obstacle to the calories emitted by the exterior walls. Arrived at the lower part of the apparatus, the air will be heated by the ambient air of the premises to be refrigerated after having itself abandoned, in exchange, the largest part of its refrigeration.
The two systems: heating and cooling can be combined in the same device. Of course, these two systems can only be used alternatively.
On the other hand, one or the other independently, can be expected. For this, it is only necessary to bring in either a heat source (heating body in the lower part) or a cold source (cooling body in the upper part).
The devices are, in the example considered, made of sheet metal, by all known means: assemblies by angles, U irons or other profiles, by electric welding, autogenous or by means of machine screws, bolts and nuts and include three parts main as can be seen in figure 1 (section in height) 10.The lower part or heating chamber.Fig.l, Fig.2 (plan according to BB.)

2. The middle part Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 (plan according to A-A,)
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
3 .The haube part or refrigeration chamber Fig. 1 and 4.
The lower part has the bottom of the device allowing it to be placed on the ground, the latter (F) has two walls, it is heat-insulated to prevent too violent radiation from the heating elements (6.and51). Especially when the latter are electric resistances having a very high temperature. There is a removable plinth (M) on the front of the appliance which is insulated for the same reason.
Between the heating body and the wall contiguous to the wall (g) there is an internal partition (f) formed of a folded sheet so that between the two walls thus formed, there is established an air mattress ( G) having an insulating action. This partition is established in such a way that it leaves from below, as well as from above, a free space for the circulation of the air contained in the device.
The middle part of the device consists essentially of three partitions. The partition (g) is moved slightly away from the exterior wall (M) to form an insulating air mattress (d). The space between this partition (g) and the posterior partition (e) is separated by the intermediate partition ( f) to constitute two compartments (b) and (c) in which a circulation by convection of the heated or cooled air is established.
This intermediate partition (f) can be made of sheet metal, with a single or double wall or even of a more or less heat-conducting material: fiber cement, asbestos-based composition, etc.
For a question of inertia, which it is useful to develop (partial accumulation) as well as for aesthetic reasons, it is provided in (a) entbe the lower part and the upper part of the device, in front of the wall (e) a special lining which could be in staff, plaster, refractory earth or any other suitable composition which could have for object, in an apartment, to allow the fixing of small objects, like engravings, frames.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It is obvious that this part (a) is not essential for the operation of the apparatus, but only constitutes an adaptation to the environment for which it is in principle intended.
The wall (e) can be formed by a flat sheet or better still, a corrugated or embossed sheet to allow a larger surface of radiation.
The upper part, somewhat similar to the lower part, is intended to receive the cooling body: Pipe with or without fins (D) in which a cooling fluid circulates: water, brine or gas ref rigrant.
In the event that the device is intended only for heating, this part could only be the extension of the middle part. (Fig. 4) The operating principle, with the following water appliance: In contact with the heating coil (U. and CI) the air contained in the appliance heats up and rises to ( j) (upper part). In doing so, there is heat exchange between the calorific flow (b) and the air in the room to be heated, by means of (a); exchange all the more rapid the greater the difference in temperature.
Arrived at (j) the air, still hot, can no longer rise but is pushed by the air stream that continues to heat the coil (C.-Cl). The air is forced back into the channel (vs). During his descent, 11 is first of all cooled by contact with the wall at (k) then by the exchange of cold calories during his entire descent.
The air thus cooled returns to the lower part of the appliance to start its cycle again.
For the cooling of the premises, the circulation is identical. The cooling surface (D) acting on the air contained in the appliance, weighs it down causing its volume to decrease, it descends by (c) .During this descent there is an exchange: refrigerants calories between (c) d 'on the one hand, and (d) and (M) on the other hand.
The gas stream descends to the lower part of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the appliance can go up through the duct (b) where the vein frees itself of its frtgories for the benefit of the room to be refrigerated.
In the first case, it is obviously necessary that the production of calories be greater than those of the absorbed fractions; the second case, on the contrary, it is essential that it is the frigories which are in greater number, to finally arrive at a state of stability, when the desired temperature of the room to be heated or cooled is obtained.
In order to obtain rational, healthy and economical heating, it is necessary that the radiations occur at low temperatures. We must therefore provide a large exchange surface.
In some cases, the surface of the exterior walls may not be sufficient. In this case, heating elements established in the same system are provided, but placed along the walls or interior partitions (Fig. 5) or better incorporated in these partitions and walls. (Fig. 6) For a better distribution between two rooms, the elements can be alternated.
Like all the others, these devices can be fitted with an automatically controlled regulation system. In a general installation, it may be provided for controlled valves controlled by an apartment thermostat when it is a cooling installation or low temperature heating surfaces. heating with a very high temperature heating coil: electric heating for example, each device (or one of them taken as a witness) may also include a safety thermostat, cutting off by priority the iercces current supplying the heating resistors .
The apartment thermostat will then act by means of contactors to seize the current when the desired room temperature is obtained and restore it after a reduction in the room temperature This is only a possibility of adapting the appliances.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
reils to modern control means, but does not characterize the invention.
Likewise, the dimensions of the apparatus have no relation to the invention. Acting by external radiation and not by convection, the total volume of the premises will not have to be heated in its entirety but simply in its lower part.
