Grâce à cette application il n'existe plus aucune limitation à la possibilité d'emploi du rasoir. - De plus, même en faisant abstraction de l'économie qui dérive du fait qu'on ne fait-plus usage de courant électrique ¯, on réalise un 'autre avantage ' consistant en ce que le rasoir conserve la température ambiente;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Quelques formes d'exécution de l'objet de l'invention ont été représentées, à seul titre d'exemple, dans le dessin annexé dans lequel: - La fig.l montre, en coupe longitudinale, une première forme d'exécution du moteur à ressort appliqué à un rasoir avec couteau cylindrique rotatif ; - fig. 2 en est une coupe transversale suivant la ligne 2x-2x de la fig.l; - la fig.3 montre, en coupe verticale, une seconde forme d'exécution du moteur à ressort, aussi appliquée à un rasoir avec couteau cylindrique rotatif ; - fig. 4 en est l'élévation frontale partiellement en coupe; - les figs.5 et 6 montrent, respective- ment en élévation frontale et latérale, un encliquetage unidi- rectionnel de blocage de l'arbre du moteur à ressort;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Device for controlling the movable knife, cooperating with the fixed grid, in mechanical razors in general".
It is known that in mechanical razors of any type known hitherto, the control of the movable knife, cooperating with the fixed grid for the purpose of cutting the hairs, is operated using an electric motor stored in the lattice. inside the casing which encloses the entire razor itself. - Therefore, the use of the razor is obviously limited to the possibility of having an electric current adapting, by its nature and its voltage, to the characteristics according to which the motor was built.
However, the main subject of the present invention is the use, as a control device for the movable knife of said mechanical razors in general, of a: spring motor stored in the same casing which contains the assembly. razor.
Thanks to this application there is no longer any limitation to the possibility of using the razor. - Moreover, even disregarding the economy which derives from the fact that no electric current is used anymore ¯, one realizes a 'further advantage' consisting in that the razor maintains the ambient temperature;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on the other hand, known electrically operated razors acquire, as a result of the heating of the engine, an intolerable temperature even after brief use. In a secondary line, the subject of the invention is a motor with a spring which is particularly suitable for controlling the movable knife of said mechanical razors in general.
Some embodiments of the object of the invention have been shown, by way of example only, in the appended drawing in which: - Fig.l shows, in longitudinal section, a first embodiment of the engine spring applied to a razor with rotating cylindrical knife; - fig. 2 is a cross section taken along the 2x-2x line of fig.l; - Fig.3 shows, in vertical section, a second embodiment of the spring motor, also applied to a razor with a rotating cylindrical knife; - fig. 4 is the front elevation partially in section; - figs. 5 and 6 show, respectively in front and side elevation, a unidirectional snap-lock for locking the shaft of the spring motor;
- Figs.7,8 and 9 show schematically, in cross section, three known forms of mechanical razor with knife endowed with an oscillatory movement, a back and forth movement and a rotary movement.
According to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the spring motor is preferably of the known multi-spring type, employed, for example, in grammphones and other applications where it is required, with a minimum of bulk. , a constant and long-lasting effort. - In the example shown, the motor comprises two barrels, 1 and 2, mutually coupled in the movement, mounted free to rotate on the main shaft 3 of the motor which is mounted for rotation in the frame 4 of the mechanism .
A first spring 1 ', housed in the barrel 1, is anchored in the center to the tooth 5 integral with the shaft 3, and at the periphery' to the barrel 1; a second spring 2 ', housed in the barrel 2, is anchored in the center to la.dent.6solidaire of the.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
bush 7 mounted loose on shaft 3, and on the periphery to said barrel 2.
For the purpose of loading the engine, the shaft 3 is rotated in the desired direction with the aid of the key 8 which, for the purpose of facilitating the operation, is preferably capable of being operated. 'to be lengthened .. For this purpose, its' rod - 8' is mounted to 'slide in an axial hole' of the shaft 3, while being integral in rotation with the said shaft thanks to the spindle loop 9. By turning the key 8, the loading of the first spring contained in the barrel '1 is thus carried out, while the latter turns the second barrel 2 by charging the spring contained therein.
Counterclockwise rotation of shaft 3 is prevented by a unidirectional locking ratchet preferably consisting of a loop 10 of steel wire, anchored, for example, to bolt 11 of frame 4, while that its two 'strands are strictly wound in a helix 10'. on the shaft 3 in the opposite direction of rotation to the following one; which this shaft must turn to operate the spring loading ,. Thanks to this arrangement, when the shaft 3 is rotated in the direction of loading; the helix-shaped portion 10 'of the ratchet unrolls, unwinds and widens, so that the shaft can rotate freely.
On the contrary, when the shaft 3 tends to turn in the opposite direction; the propeller 10 'winds up and locks onto the shaft by stopping it.
This particular form of anchoring is shown in detail in figs. 5 and '6. @
The transmission mechanism comprises a counter-shaft 12 mounted to rotate, in suitable bearings of the frame 4, parallel to the shaft 3. On the counter-shaft 12 are mounted idly several independent pairs of gears 13,13 '. .., each consisting of a "small and a large wheel. With the small wheel of the first pair 13 engages the large wheel 14 integral with the socket 7, While the large wheel of the first pair 13 engages with ..the small wheel of other independent pairs of gears 15,15 '..., mounted idly on shaft 3, and whose large and small wheels, mesh successively
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
with those, small and 'large of successive pairs 13' ... -.
The large wheel of the last pair (15 ') meshes with a pinion 16 wedges on the countershaft 12. - This speed multiplier device, in which, as axes of rotation for the intermediate gears, the shaft is used. 3 and the countershaft 12, is of very simple construction and minimal space requirement, which is of the greatest importance in the particular application according to the present invention.
On the counter-shaft 12 is wedged a large toothed wheel 17 which, through an intermediate pinion 18, controls the toothed wheel 19 wedged on a supported shaft 20 capable of rotating by the frame 4. The shaft 20 is provided with a usual speed regulator with centrifugal masses 21 supported by the elastic blades 22 connected to the disc 23 capable of sliding along the shaft 20.
The speed is adjusted by the stop 24 against which the disc 23 will rest. This stop 24 is supported, adjustable in position, by one of the two halves 25,25 'of the outer casing enclosing the entire razor. The disc 23 also acts as the stop or click brake of the entire mechanism. This brake (see fig. 2) consists of an elbow lever 26 mounted capable of oscillating on one of the bars 4 of the frame. To one of the arms of said lever 26 is fixed an elastic arm 27 ending in a shoe 27 'resting on the edge of the disc 23 under the action of a tension spring 28 anchored to the same arm. 27 and to a bar 4 of the frame. The second arm of the lever 27 comes out through a slot 25 of the outer casing of the razor and is provided with the button-26 '.
By exerting a pressure on the key 26 ', the shoe 27' is detached from the disc 23, which determines the starting of the spring mechanism; by releasing the key 26 'the shoe is brought into contact with the disc 23 and the spring mechanism is stopped.
On the shaft 20 is wedged another toothed wheel 29 which engages with the pinion 30 of the small shaft 30 ', capable of rotating in a support 31 and intended to control the knife 32 of the blade.

evening.
According to the embodiment shown, this knife is of the rotary type such as that described in the Patent of Invention
EMI5.1
seyen depo as long as the present (Cae) on behalf of the same Claimants. - Indeed this knife is constituted by a cylinder, mupivots: of neither of / support :. 33,33 ', on which is cut a screw, preferably with several threads, or else is provided a plurality of helical or reotilinear knives, 0 -is to say arranged according to the generatrices of the cylinder. The pivot 33 is rotatably mounted in a support 34; that 33 ', using a toothed clutch, is coupled to a jaw with which the shaft 30' ends.
The supports 31 and 34 are pushed upwards by the action of springs 35, so that the cylindrical knife 32 is constantly pushed from the inside against the grid 36 with which it cooperates for the purpose of cutting the hairs. This grid, provided with suitable slots for the passage of the bristles to be cut, is formed by a sheet metal part folded into a U and is removably anchored to a 37-mounted-removable support block on the fixed frame of the 'together. For this purpose, to a part 4 'of said fixed frame,' are connected the pins 38,38 ', parallel to each other, on which the block 37 is, slidably mounted, while in the pin 38' , which is hollow, is screwed in a fixing screw 39.
When screw 39 is fully screwed in, cylindrical knife pivot 33 'is engaged with shaft end sleeve 30' and is rotated when the spring motor is allowed to operate. By partially unscrewing the screw 39, the whole of the grid 36, the knife 32 and the support block
37, can be moved axially and, after removing the grid 36, the knife 32 can be removed for possible cleaning.
On the other hand, by completely unscrewing screw 39 ', the assembly,
32, 36, 37 can be completely disengaged from pins 38,38 '. This construction being described in detail in the aforementioned patent, does not require any additional description.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The second embodiment of the spring motor (see fig.
3 and 4) is substantially identical, as regards the engine itself, to that described above, it differs from it on the other hand substantially as regards the means for recharging the springs. In this case, - instead of the usual recharging key 8 integral with the shaft 3 - there is a handle 40 mounted capable of oscillating on a pivot 41 retained between the two halves 25,25 'constituting the casing of the Shaver. Said handle 40, under the action of a helical-shaped torsion spring 42, stored on the pivot 41, is forced outwardly of said casing from which it protrudes laterally. The handle 40, by means of a connecting rod 43, articulated therein at 44 with sensitive play, is articulated to a fork crank arm 45 embracing the shaft 3 of the spring motor.
- The arm 45 is connected to said shaft 3 through a unidirectional latching, preferably of the type already described with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6. This latching is therefore constituted by a loop 46 of steel wire anchored at 47 to the arm 45 and the two strands of which are wound in a tight helix 46 'on the shaft 3 in the opposite direction to that in which the shaft must be rotated for the purpose of recharging the springs. This shaft 3, moreover, is still prevented from rotating in the direction of discharge by another snap 10, 10 ', quite similar, which is anchored to a bar 4 of the fixed frame.
Thanks to this arrangement, to operate the recharging of the springs, it suffices to exert intermittently, with the palm of the hand which grips the razor, a push on the handle 40 so as to make it enter the envelope 25. , 25 ', while quitting pushing, the handle is pushed out.
The crank arm 45 is made to oscillate and, when under the action of the pressure exerted by the hand on the handle 40, the crank 45 moves in one direction, the latter through the one-way ratchet 46 , 46 'turns the shaft 3 in the recharging direction. - This intermittent oscillatory movement

EMI7.1
of the handle 40 is inst3.nctivem.ent acéo.plit when the razor is gripped, and possibly even during .the shaving operation) so that the razor always remains, in) function and it does not is not necessary, as' in the other example of execution, to interrupt the shaving operation to reload it.
In accordance with the second embodiment, the motor, with its shaft 3, is rangé'normal¯.and no longer parallel to the axis of the rotary cylindrical knife 32. The casing 25,25 'acquires an elongated shape; ' at the top of the casing is stored the rotary knife-32 and its grid 36.
The transmission of movement from the countershaft 12 to the centrifugal governor shaft 20, always parallel to the cylindrical knife 32, is accomplished by means of the pair of bevel wheels 17,19. From the tree
20, fitted with toothed wheel 29 / the movement is transmitted to pinion 30, integral with cylindrical knife '32, by means of an intermediate wheel 30. - The brake, understood to stop or leave free the movement of the motor, is constituted here by a lever 48 oscillating at 49, ourvu at one of its ends of the brake shoe 50 acting sideways on the wheel
29 under the action of the spring 51 and controlled at the other end by means of a button 52, coming out of the casing 25,25 '.
By pressing this button the movement of the motor is left free.
In the two above-described embodiments of the spring motor, the case in which it serves to control a rotary cylindrical knife 32 has been considered, but this should not be interpreted in any way in a limiting sense. , as the object of the invention is, in principle, the control ', by means of a spring motor, of the operating knife, -' of any form, of any razor known mechanics. Now the ra-. Known mechanical evenings, in addition to the rotary cylindrical knife one considered so far, belong substantially to three types.
According to one of these types (fig. 7) the knife 53, stored below the fixed grid 36 with which it cooperates, is mounted to oscillate in the notches of a pair of cutters.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
elastic sinets 54 which push it from the inside against the grid itself. The control with an oscillatory movement is operated by a crank button 55 integral with a shaft 56 and in engagement with a sliding longitudinal slot provided in the shank 53 'of said knife. In the other known type (fig. 8) the knife 57 is guided capable of sliding in the longitudinal direction with respect to the fixed grill 36 and is controlled with a longitudinal reciprocating movement using the button. crank 55 integral with the shaft 56 and in engagement with a transverse sliding slot provided in the lower part of the knife.
In the other known type (fig. 9) the knife is rotary and constituted by a plurality of cutting blades 58 radiating from the shaft 56 and operating flat behind a flat plate 59 functioning as a grid and provided with a plurality of holes through which pass the hairs to be cut.
In all these cases and in accordance with the present invention, the spring motor will drive the shaft 56 in rotation through a suitable transmission device comprising the speed regulator, preferably of the centrifugal type, such as that described above. -.
It is obvious that, according to the various conformations of known mechanical razors, the application of the spring motor, in substitution of the electric one generally employed, could require considerable variations.
It is evident therefore that the present invention is in no way limited to the precise provisions described and represented above, but that, without departing from its principle, it may undergo all the variants that the circumstances or requirements of the practice might be deemed necessary or advantageous.
