<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
Cet emballage présente la particularité d'être absolument symétrique par ra.pport à un plan médiah perpendiculaire à l'axe longitudinal et que, dans les deux positions dans lesquelles il peut être posé plat sur une table, les disques b et c constituant ses fonds ne sont pas en contact avec la table, qui peut être plus ou moins propre ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

"Packaging, process for its manufacture and machine for implementing this process,"
The packaging of so-called cream cheese, for example, is usually carried out in cardboard bundles which are composed of two stamped lids.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
interlocking, a guarantee strip being glued around their periphery.
The manufacture of these boxes is quite expensive because, first of all, the stamping of the lids requires the use of a specially manufactured cardboard, therefore more expensive than the current quality. It is also necessary to heat the dies and steam is necessary for the treatment of the cardboard, which must then undergo, before use, a finishing which varies according to the humidity. The stamping equipment (presses, dies, punches) is of a high price, of rapid wear; requires a fairly large driving force.
The present invention aims to avoid these drawbacks and comprises a packaging, a method for its manufacture and a macliine for the implementation of this method.
The packaging according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a sleeve inside which two discs between which the packed material is located, are prevented from moving away from each other by retaining means. made in the region of each of the ends of the sleeve and which, for at least one of these ends, consist of a crimping.
The method which the invention includes is characterized in that the material to be packaged and two discs intended to constitute the bottoms of the packaging are placed inside a sleeve of which at least one of the ends is crimped and in the region of the other end of which retaining means are shaped, so as to prevent
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
discs to move away from each other
The machine for implementing this method is characterized in that it comprises means for crimping at least one of the ends of a sleeve.
The appended drawing represents, by way of examples, some embodiments of the packaging according to the invention, and one embodiment of the machine which the invention comprises. The following description gives, also by way of example, some implementations of the process which the invention comprises.
Fig. 1 is a side view, partially cut away, of a first embodiment of the finished package including a cheese for example.
Fig. 2 is a plane corresponding to the. fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side view of an embodiment of the machine that comprises the invention.
Fig. 4 is a side view, on a larger scale and with partial cutaway, of the machine according to FIG. 3.
The, fig. 5 is a view from below, of the upper crimping plate visible in FIG. 4.
Figs. 6, 6a and 7 illustrate the successive operations that a first implementation of the method comprises, for the. manufacture of a packaging such as that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, by means of the machine according to fig. 3,4 and 5.
Fig. 8 is an elevational view, in partial section, of a second embodiment of the packaging,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
advantageous in the case where the packaged material is powdery and compressible.
Fig. 9 is a sectional view along IX-IX of FIG. 10, 6 'a third embodiment of the packaging.
Fig. 10 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 9.
Figs 11 and 12 represent two partial cross sections of two other embodiments of the packaging.
As seen in fig. 1 and 2, the packaged material a, cheese for example, is contained in a box of generally cylindrical shape, the upper and lower circular bases of which are formed by disks b, c and the wall of which is formed by a tube d, the edges d1 and d2 of the tube being crimped against the disks b and c.
The crimping machine according to figs 3, 4 and 5, which can be used to carry out, in two consecutive operations (fig. 6, 6a and 7), the packaging shown finished in fig. 1 and 2, comprises an upper plate 1 which is a cylindrical crimping plate, preferably made of bronze, comprising an annular groove 2, lined on the inside with a certain number of elastic blades 3 shaped to operate the crimping or folding of the edge D (fig. 6) of the tube d engaged in the groove 2, by sliding the elastic blades 3 on said edge as will be indicated below.
For this purpose, the plate 1 is mounted, with the interposition of a thrust bearing 4, at the end of a shaft 5 carried by the frame 6 of the machine; this tree is ordered, in the example
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
represented by a pulley 7 on which passes a belt 8 coming from a reference 9 with idle and fixed pulleys, itself controlled by an electric motor 10
The blank press 11, which constitutes the lower plate of the crimping machine, is also cylindrical and can be made of cast iron; it has at its lower part a rim lla which serves as a stop for the tube d, as seen in la. fig. 6.
The blank press 11 is mounted at the end of an axis 12 which slides in the frame of the machine, by means of levers 13 and 14, when the lever 13 is actuated ps.r the operator of the machine.
As seen on the left side of the. FIG, 6. the tube d is first of all engaged on the press-blank 11 until it rests by its edge D1 on the rim 11a, the sleeve d exceeding a certain height !! the level of the blanking press. This being the case, the blank press 11 is raised, by actuating the lever 13 until edge D2 of the tube penetrates into the groove 2 where its crimping takes place as shown in d2 on the right side of FIG. 6.
We then obtain a sort of box, which we return from 1800 for the. place (left pa.rtie fig.7) on a second blank press 17, preferably bronze, which comprises an annular ra, inure 18 provided to receive the bead or crimped part d2 of the tube d. The disc b intended to constitute one of the bottoms of the finished packaging (fig.l and 2) can either be placed flat on the upper face of the blank press 11, before crimping the edge D2,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
as indicated in Fig.6, either be introduced into the tube d that the removed from the blank press 11 'after formation of the bead d2 by crimping its edge D2 (fig.6a).
It is then that we place the material to be wrapped, for example cheese coated with a tin or aluminum foil inside the. box which has just been outlined in this way, and which can be seen on the left part of fig.7. We have a second disc c on the cheese! and the second crimping d1 is performed. It is noted in this regard that the edge D1 of the blank box exceeds the cheese by a height h1 necessary for the formation of the second crimp; this takes place like the first, by lifting the blank press 17 until the edge D1 completely penetrates into the. groove 2 of the upper crimping plate 1, as shown on the right side of fig. 7.
The packaging is then finished and looks as shown in fig. 1 and 2 .
This packaging has the particularity of being absolutely symmetrical by ra.pport to a mediah plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and that, in the two positions in which it can be placed flat on a table, the discs b and c constituting its funds are not in contact with the table, which may be more or less clean;
in fact, the packaging then rests only by the bead or crimping d1, respectively d2, on said table, This feature also provides the commercial advantage of a certain artificial height,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The opening of the packaging, to have access to the cheese, can be done very easily, by unwinding or cutting one of the crimps d1, d2, over a certain length, so that it can then easily be torn and then unwound. the part d forming the wall of the packaging
Of course, lesdisques b and c, which are preferably made of cardboard, can carry on the outside side marks, inscriptions or advertising labels and, if it is deemed necessary, the discs and the.
middle part of the sleeve can be lined internally with any waterproof foil, tin or aluminum for example.
In the embodiment of the packaging shown in Fig. 8, particularly advantageous when it comes to packaging a product a powdery and compresBible, it has been provided, to prevent the funds b and c can move inwards under the action of a thrust exerted on them from the outside, that each of these funds is retained between the corresponding crimping d1 and d2 and a groove, respectively d and d4 made by pushing back a part of the wall d towards the inside. The disc b thus embedded between the groove d3 and the crimping d1, as well as the disc o held between the. groove d4 and the crimping d2 are thus firmly immobilized in both directions.
The packaging according to fig. 8 can be carried out for example in two stages, the discs b and c being put in place after making the discharges d3, d4 and filling with the material a, then the crimps d1 and d2 are
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
executed and ensure the fixing of these discs, The grooves can be continuous, as in the case of the drawing, or discontinuous and formed on any number of lines or discharge points.
In the packaging according to fig. 9 and 10, which may contain for example a soft cheese, the disks e, f forming the bases are for example made of wood and each have a central hole to make it possible to see and feel the contents of the packaging. It goes without saying that the arrangement and the number of holes could be different; only one of the bases could be made of wood and thus perforated.
In the following example fig.9, the bottoms are held in place in the same way as in the case of fig.8, that is to say by crimping and creasing. This packaging also has, although it is not essential, ventilation holes made in its periphery.
It will be noted that the packaging described provides an absolute guarantee of inviolability.
In the case of fig. 11, the disc c is retained, on the one hand, by a crimping d2 and, on the other hand, by a creasing d4, while the disc b is retained by the fact that its edge is engaged in the groove that a d5 groove constitutes inside the sleeve! . The end d6 of the sleeve adjacent to d5 is slightly flared to facilitate the positioning of the disc b, after the disc c has been placed and the material a such as cheese as shown,
This embodiment has the advantage of being able to be opened without it being necessary to damage
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
sleeve and discs. It suffices in fact to exert an axial pressure, directed upwards in FIG. There, on disk c, to get disk c out of the groove where. he is engaged .
In the case of the pin 12, the disc is retained only by a crimping d2 and the disc b only by a creasing d7 made in the sleeve and protruding inside it * It is easy to see that this shape of execution also has the advantage pointed out with regard to fi g. 11.
In these last two embodiments, the presence of the crimping d2 ensures good resistance to the packaging.
The packages described have the advantage of avoiding any hot operation during their manufacture and of not requiring for their constituent elements, special cardboard, as is the case for similar known packages, as well as gold. recalled this in the preamble.
Indeed, the funds, which are simple discs, can be made of ordinary cardboard or of wood, for example, while the element d constituting the side wall can be constituted by a series of layers of paper rolled up and glued together. the other, which makes it possible to achieve a very low cost price. In addition, the use for the element d of a roll made with paper wound in superimposed and glued layers allows the printing of advertising indications directly on the boot, which eliminates the use of printed bands that the one sticks afterwards on the known similar packaging.
The
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
paper which is used to manufacture the element d, as we have just indicated, can in fact be in the form of a strip having the desired advertising impression which will constitute the outer layer to that of its ends after winding .
It emerges from the foregoing that the packaging described makes it possible to achieve a significant saving, not only on the price of the raw material and the cost of manufacture, but also on the weight of the material used, compared to the case of known similar packaging.
In cases where it is a question of producing, for example, packaging according to FIG. 1 and 2 or according to fig. 11 or 12 and containing a material such as cheese wrapped in a tin or aluminum foil, we have the advantage of being able to surely avoid any local detachment of this sheet from the cheese (which causes the appearance of molds , as we know). In fact, it suffices for this to adjust the crimping machine so that the cheese is lightly pressed between the bases ± and c during the packaging closing operation, so that, once the packaging is finished, these bottoms and side wall d remain tight against the cheese.
In the case of fig. 6,6a and 7, the two crimps were carried out successively. It is clear that, in a variety, the two crimps could be carried out simultaneously. In the latter case, the material to be packaged and the two discs would obviously be placed in the cylindrical element,
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
which would be kept fixed, while the two crimps would be carried out at the same time against these two discs.
CLAIMS
1) Packaging, characterized in that it comprises a sleeve â. the interior of which two discs, between which the packed material is located, are prevented from moving apart from each other by retaining means formed in the region of each of the ends of the sleeve and which, for one at least of these ends are formed by a crimping.
