<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Folding trailer for camping"
The present invention is a fold-out camping trailer to meet the comfort requirements of campers as well as transportation requirements.
In order for campers to have a minimum of comfort, it is obvious that the dimensions of camping trailers must be larger than the road transport conditions allow. To meet this need, foldable camping trailers have already been built, but all the constructions known until now, some of which are very complicated, do not have the character of a real dwelling but all bear the mark of a hasty and preoary oampement.
The present invention aims to oréer a camping trailer whose deployed volume is about four times greater.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
with folded volume, forming a real living room, with solid walls and roof, while being nevertheless of a simple construction and handling.
To this end, the walls of the fold-out trailer for camping according to the invention are formed, mainly, by three quadrangular hollow prisms each comprising two adjacent longitudinal kings / and only two side walls. The edges of the longitudinal walls of one of the prisms are articulated to one of the longitudinal edges of each of the other two prisms, allowing them to pivot by approximately 90.
Thus, the articulated longitudinal sides of the two end prisms can be placed in the extension of the corresponding sides of the approximately central prism and, by pivoting 90 / of the end prisms, the three prisms can be nested in each other, being dimensioned so as to allow this maneuver intended to reduce the dimensions of the trailer for transport.
When these three prisms are deployed, the trailer therefore has the appearance of a single large quadrangular prism, a quarter of which is still exposed.
To form this last part of the single prism of large dimensions, the invention provides that at least one of the end prisms is provided with folding flaps, which can be deployed so as to constitute, with the roof, a fourth qua prism. - drangular with two longitudinal walls and two side walls which form, with the walls of the other three prisms, the single quadrangular hollow prism which then constitutes a chamber with solid and undeformable walls.
To facilitate the deployment and interlocking maneuvers of the extreme prisms, the invention also provides that the straps are connected to one another by means of cables, or similar passing over pulleys integral with the. central prism, so that when deploying the extreme prisms, one being
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rotated sideways and the other upward, they act as a counterweight.
As regards the roof, half of which is therefore formed by one of the longitudinal walls of the extreme prism pivoted upwards, the invention recommends a preferred solution which consists in providing a roof having a transverse section in an arc of a circle, the second half of the roof can thus be superimposed on the half formed by the longitudinal wall of the upper prism, the ends of which are provided with guides, so as to allow the sliding of the other part of the roof which can thus be juxtaposed to the upper longitudinal side from the prism, without any difficulty. This sliding maneuver of the half roof can be done by means of any device with straps and pulleys, known in itself.
To prevent any unwanted movement of the trailer during its use as a living room, the bottom of the oelleci is provided with one or more articulated frames which form with this bottom deformable parallelograms which can, in the lowered position, form supports. for the trailer, while lifting it slightly using extensions forming a lever.
The trailer thus formed can be favorably equipped with a removable wheel set, which can be removed after wedging the trailer on its supports, which makes it possible to use the wheel set as a cart or as a wheelbarrow.
The constitution of a roof and rigid walls in the trailer according to the invention also makes it possible to provide for the arrangement of a bed suspended from the roof by oroohets or rings embedded in it and which can easily be removed therefrom.
This suspended bed has the great advantage of not having to be transformed, like the sofa beds currently used, but of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
see remain assigned to its use as a bed for the duration of the camp.
In order to illustrate the main features of the invention, the description below of an embodiment of a folding trailer for camping according to the invention, with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawings, is given by way of illustration. non-limiting example.
Figure 1 is a schematic cross section of a trailer according to the invention in the folded position, ready for road transport.
Figure 2 is an elevational cross section of the trailer shown in Figure 1 with the prisms deployed.
Figure 3 is a schematic sectional plan, along line III - III of Figure 2, showing more particularly the operation of the articulated shutters.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the trailer completely closed, in the camping position, the doors and windows not being shown.
The walls and the roof of the trailer are formed by a central prism oomportant two longitudinal walls 1 and 2 and two side walls 3 and 4, by a prism intended to be deployed to the side and oomportant two longitudinal walls 5 and 6 and two walls sides 7 and 8, by a prism intended to be deployed upwards and comprising a flat longitudinal wall 9 and a bulging longitudinal wall forming a half-roof 10, lined with a sliding half-roof 11, and side walls 12 and 13, and by flaps, articulated to these side walls 12 and 13, and comprising, respectively, the panels 14 and 15 and 16 and 17.
The oentral prism is connected by its longitudinal side 1 to the longitudinal side 9 of the upper prism by means of hinges

18 and by its longitudinal side 2 to the longitudinal side 5 of the prism deployed laterally by means of hinges 19, the hinged flaps at 20 and 21 are connected by their panels

14 and 12 respectively p a11% side walls 1, and 13 of the upper prism by means of hinges 22 and 23.
EMI5.2
To allow the interlocking of the three prisms # as shown in Figure 1, the length of the longitudinal walls 5 and 6 and the depth of the side walls 7 and 8 of the prism deployed to the side are slightly less than the length of the longitudinal walls 1 and 8 and to the depth of the walls

lengthwise to the longitudinal sides & 1IX 2. and 1Q of the prism extended upwards, so that, in the nested position, the prism extended towards the side is placed inside the central prism which is placed itself at the inside the prism deployed upwards.
To facilitate the maneuvers of deployment and engagement of the prisms, the prism to be deployed to the side is connected at 24 to a winding drum 25, ratchet and fixed to the prism to be deployed upwards, by means of a cable. 26 passing over pulleys 27 and 28 integral with the central prism.
In this way, during the deployment towards the side and towards the bottom of the prism: interior, this one acts, by the intermediary of the cable 26, to satr the external prions to be deployed upwards, by exerting a traction in the desired direction , the two prisms deployed thus balancing each other. The winding drum 25 makes it possible to absorb the possible elongation of the target. Between 27 and 28 the cable is guided between the pulleys 36 and 3 ?. on the one hand, and 38, on the other hand.
Of the three pulleys, integral with the central prism, the first two have fixed axes and the third mobile, being connected to the prism by the intermediary of the bracket 39 and the spring 40, which thus acts as a tensioner for the cable and
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
start, the deployment of prisms.
Before proceeding with the deployment of the prisms, oomme deorit, we lower the special supports with which the trailer is provided, in order to prevent any untimely movement. These supports consist of articulated linkages 30, 31, 32 and 33 which constitute aveo the wall 2, forming the bottom of the folded trailer, deformable parallelograms. The folded position of these linkages is shown in Figure 1 in solid lines, the developed position being shown in phantom lines, The end of the rods 33 ends in angled bars 34 and 35 which form solid foundations for the wall 5 , as shown in figure 2.
It is therefore sufficient to lower the bars 33, forming levers, to obtain the deployment of the parallelogram formed by the bottom of the trailer and the bars 30, 31 and 32, the lower articulations of which are then supported on the ground, by slightly lifting the trailer.
When the lowering of the supports and the deployment of the prisms has taken place, as described and as shown in figure 2, we therefore obtain a single quadrangular prism of width and height doubled compared to those of the folded trailer according to figure 1 To close the still open upper half of this prism, it suffices to deploy the flaps 14 and 15 and 16 and 17, articulated, respectively, to the side walls 12 and 13 of the upper prism. In order to clearly illustrate this maneuver, FIG. 3 shows the panels 14 and 15 of one of the flaps in the unfolded position, that is to say resting exactly on the side walls 6 and of the lower prism, and the panels 16 and 17 in the folded position, oontre the wall 13 of the upper prism.
When the shutters have been placed in the extension of the walls 6, 7 and 8 of the lower prism, it suffices to slide the half-roof 11 to completely close the chamber.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
thus oonstituted. This sliding of the half-roof 11, which is guided in lateral guides of the fixed half-roof 10, is caused by means of a device with straps and rollers, of any construction, similar to those used for the operation of back and forth curtains. From the roof thus formed can be suspended a bed by means of chains, straps, etc., winding on spring drums, of total force approximately equal to the weight of the bed and embedded in the roof.
This bed can thus be lowered to its usual place or be raised against the ceiling, always keeping its horizontal position and, consequently, being able to remain in place with its sheets, openings, etc., ready for use, a table can be folded into place or raised against the wall.
In the example described, the wheels used for the trailer are of relatively small diameter. It would also be possible to use larger wheels, arranged laterally to the central prism, in which case these wheels must be removable after lowering the supports, so as not to hinder the deployment of the lateral prism. A preferred solution then consists in providing for the easy unhooking of the entire set of wheels, the latter then being able to serve as a means of transport for provisions etc. in the form of a trolley. A small auxiliary wheel can also be provided towards the rear of the trailer to allow a slight local movement in places not easily accessible to the tractor.
It is obvious that in practice the walls, shown schematically in the drawing in single thickness, will in reality, preferably, be double walls made of sheet metal and / or fiber or other insulating material, braced by one or the other internal reinforcement. , and, that in general, the construction of these walls as well as their jointing, could be inspired by any modern method.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
By its general arrangement, comprising the fundamental characteristics described above, the trailer for camping according to the invention allows, in any case, the quadrupling of its volume in the unfolded position, the constitution of a really rigid chamber and a maneuver. simple. Doors and windows can be placed in the desired places, according to the climates, etc ....
