<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Hunting rifle. Hunting rifles are known, in which the hammer is cocked by the intervention of a cocking rod itself actuated by a cocking lever which, itself $ is powered by the tilting of the barrels and of the longness. It is essential for the good functioning of the rifle, that the contacts, the "plugs" to use the term of armory, are carefully adjusted and are not subject to any wear or maladjustment.
When setting up the cocking rod and the cocking lever, that is to say, in terms of gunsmithing, during the "running" of the rifle, the worker must make a special, slow adjustment. and meticulous which has the disadvantage of requiring several disassembly of the parts to adjust them with a file or with other tools,
Part of the present invention relates to the adjustment of this cocking lever; this is provided with an adjustable threaded sleeve; this socket is provided with a groove for the introduction of a screwdriver. The sleeve made integral with the cocking lever by threading is provided with a bulge which cooperates with a notch
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the cocking lever.
The cocking lever has a concave shaped socket in which fits the end of the sleeve of the cocking lever which is provided with a convex end, the convexity being arranged in the direction of the insertion groove of the screwdriver..
Due to the special arrangement of the cocking lever and the threaded sleeve, it is easily understandable that the adjustment will not require a full turn of the sleeve but can be done by a half turn thus giving great sensitivity to the adjustment. without having to disassemble the weapon.
When the forearm is removed, all you have to do is rotate the cocking lever and insert the screwdriver used to adjust the cocking rod into the space provided in the rocker.
One of the peculiarities of the device is that, due to the special shapes of the cocking lever and the sleeve of the cocking rod, the latter, once the rifle is mounted, cannot be unscrewed being maintained in its correct position by its contact with the cocking lever.
The adjustment adopted for the cocking rod applies equally well in the case where this rod works on the hammer by means of a coil res is whether the latter acts on said hammer by compression or by traction.
Currently, in shotguns with locks, two springs are provided: a coil or "V" spring used to actuate the hammer and a "V" spring to hold the trigger in place in the hammer cocking notch.
The manufacture of these plates, so that they are of suitable quality, is very expensive, because it requires
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
great care and the "V" springs must be made very carefully from special treated steel, the price of which is very high.
According to the present invention, provision is made to use a coil spring serving simultaneously for the hammer and as a return spring for the trigger. This simultaneous action of the spring on these two different parts is effected by the intervention of a lever resting on a wedge-shaped part provided on the plate carrying the mechanism, which makes it possible to eliminate the pivot or the like of said intermediate.
The invention also relates to an automatic safety or not for a hunting rifle. This safety offers the advantage of being able to be obtained by stamping sheets, which considerably reduces the cost price.
The automatic operation of said safety is achieved through the intervention of two pieces of cut sheet metal, independent of each other, the first sliding through the guard whose front end cooperates with the lock, the part posterior cooperating with a cam provided on the oscillating lever of the safety.
Other features of the invention will emerge from the following description.
The accompanying drawings show by way of non-limiting example an embodiment of the invention. This extends to the various original features included in the arrangement shown. fig.l is a section through a rifle showing the adjustable sleeve and the automatic safety mechanism.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the end of the rod

armament provided with a socket according to the invention. Fig.3 is an elevational view of a plate carrying a chiem and a trigger and in which it is shown the coil spring device with simultaneous effect on the hammer and on the trigger.
.The fig.4: is a section along C-D of fig.3.
According to the invention, there is provided at the cocking rod 2 a sleeve 3 made integral with said rod by threading.
At the front part of the threaded bush is provided a convexity such as 3a cooperating with the concavity 4a of the armaur lever 4 which cooperates with a notch of the long se. The convex part 3a of the threaded sleeve 3 carries a groove 3b allowing the introduction of a screwdriver in the case of adjustment of said sleeve.
It is easily understandable that the adjustment of the cocking rod: can be done without requiring disassembly of the weapon. In fact, when the forearm has been removed, it suffices to rotate the arming lever 4 around the pivot 4b to allow the introduction of the screwdriver into the notch 3b of the adjustable sleeve 3.
As a result of the special shape of the end of the cocking rod, the adjustment can be done by half-turn, the convexity of the sleeve coming to cooperate exactly and always in the same direction in the concavity 4a of the cocking lever 4; in addition, the sleeve cannot be unscrewed, being held in the adjustment position.
The automatic safety device consists of two independent sheet metal parts, 5 and 6; the part 5 serving for the automatic setting in surate, the part 6 being able to be handled by 1'intermediate the external safety button 7. The
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
part 5 is actuated rearwardly by the closing latch, it has an extension 5a passing through the guard iron of the weapon, part 5b of this extension cooperating with a part controlled by the latch.
In the case of automatic safety, part 5b is pushed backwards so as to cause part 5c of said part to cooperate with the blade 6a provided on the pivoting part 6 of said safety. Part 5 is guided between the two detents so as to ensure it a vertical position when it moves back, pushed by the lock.
The part 6 pivoted at 6b carries on each side a lug 6c which cooperates with: an extension 8a of the triggers 8 so as to block them.
For the lockout, we will act in the direction of arrow X on the button 7 controlling the lever 6 of said safety. By this movement, the lever 6 will pivot around its axis 6b by pushing back as a result of the cam 6a, the part 5 and will thereby release the part 8a of the trigger 8.
The arming system according to the invention (see fig. 3) can be used either in a rifle with an internal mechanism, or in a rifle with detachable plates. The embodiment is designed in such a way that the cocking rod 9 bears in a concave part 10a on the hammer 10 of the plate and cannot pivot on itself about its longitudinal axis. The end of the cocking rod 9 towards the hinge and the spindle can be made using the adjustment device with threaded sleeve as described above.
This plate uses a single coil spring which serves both as a hammer spring and a trigger return spring to the intervention of the lever 11 which is supported by a
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
on the one hand on a cleat such as the one integral with the plate and on the other hand on the trigger 14.
It should be noted that the lever 11 does not carry any pivot axis, the connection between the plate and the trigger being provided by a notch which comes to bear on a wedge-shaped latch provided on the plate carrying the mechanism, the lever being provided with a notch meaning ibleme nt equal to the profile of the cleat, the latter will therefore, under the effect of the spring always maintained in a position suitable for its function.
The rassort 15 ensures the percussion of the ohien 10 because one end of said spring bears on the lever 11 the other end cooperating in a notch provided in the head of said hammer. To ensure the rigidity of the spring 15, the latter is provided inside it with a rod 15a capable of passing through the lever 11 through a hole lla drilled in the latter,
FIG. 4: shows an embodiment of the fixing of the lever 11 relative to the plate of the device according to the invention.
It goes without saying that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described by way of example but that it extends to any embodiment coming within the spirit or the scope of the following claims.
