<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
geschieden..
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Method for the production of fuel briquettes and briquettes manufactured according to that method.
The invention relates to the manufacture of fuel briquettes from pulverized coal, coke fine, charcoal powder or the like or mixtures thereof, using boiled potato flour as a binder. According to the invention, the pressed briquettes are heated to a temperature of 70 - 300 ° C. The lower limit of this temperature range indicates the point at which the flour has changed so much by the heating that it is practically no longer water. - absorbs new, while the upper temperature limit is determined by the point at which the flour cokes.
Treated in this way, the flour therefore does not remain temporarily, but permanently acts as a binder and the resulting briquettes have obtained an increased resistance to water, which they retain while the strength of the briquettes is important.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
@ is improved. These are advantages over the briquettes obtained according to French Pat. Nos. 339370 - 347092 and 405019, in which boiled potatoes are also used. Preferably, the drying takes place by roasting with the aid of flue gases. An example of implementation follows here.
EXAMPLE 1.
100 kg powder of Péeser coal with granules of 0.5 min is bound with 4% by weight binder to form briquettes; the binder consists of boiled and ground potato flour with a significantly smaller grain size than the pulverized coal, so that after mixing the flour grains envelop the coal grains and do not lie between the cabbage grains as grains. The usual malaxation takes place with superheated steam, whereby the potato flour is gelatinized. The pressing then takes place under a pressure of about 250 kg / cm2. The heating is carried out in a stream of flue gases at a maximum temperature of about 140 ° C, with gentle and gradually increasing heating, whereby sufficient briquettes are obtained for the practical requirements of firmness and water resistance.
The firmness and water resistance can be further increased when according to the invention, as binder, flour from boiled potatoes, with bitumen and / or a sugar is used. This can be done in such a way that the aforementioned roasting takes place at a temperature which is in the vicinity of the melting point of the bituminous and sugar materials.
Extending the potato flour with bitumen and / or sugar can be done in any manner and at any suitable stage in the preparation of the substance to be briquetted @ -
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
A simple way is to dry mix the flour and the ground product of bitumen, preferably pitch, and sugar and to use the mixture of both powders as a binding agent. The known spraying method can be followed for introducing the binder into the coal to be briquetted: the coal powder is first mixed with the potato flour and then this mixture is sprayed with the molten bitumen and / or sugar.
The binder preferably contains at most 50%, or even better at most 20%, bi gymnastics. The invention thus makes it possible to reduce the amount of bitumen customary hitherto, which was disadvantageous because of its soot formation and scale, to a fracture portion. An exemplary embodiment of this method is given in Example II.
EXAMPLE II.
100 kg of pulverized coal with a maximum grain size of 0.5 mm is briquetted with 2.5% by weight binder. The binder composition is 70% (1.75kg) boiled and ground potato powder and 30% (0.75kg) bitumen. The potato flour and ground bitumen are evenly mixed and then mixed with the paederkal. The usual malaxation of this material is carried out prior to pressing at a temperature of 400 ° C by overheating steam, whereby the potato flour gelatinizes and the bitumen melts. The pressing is effected with a pressure of 250 kg / cm2.
The resulting briquettes of about 30 g are then subjected to a drying roasting in flue gases of about 250 ° C, whereby the briquettes are carefully brought to the maximum roasting temperature in steps according to the counter-syrup principle.
After cooling, the firmness and water resistance were practically equal to those of briquettes treated with 6-8% by weight pitch.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It is noted that when using the method according to the invention, the pressing of the briquettes can take place in a normal manner and at a usual temperature. The temperature of the mixture of coal dust and binder may, for example, be about 100 ° C during pressing.
As regards the water resistance and the fastness of the briquettes obtained by the invention method, tests carried out by the Royal Technical College in Budapest have yielded, inter alia, the following results.
Briquettes were prepared according to the composition given in Example II, with fine anthracite as coal dust
