<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La figure 1 est une vue en plan du dispositif;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Rotary cutting device for trimming and cutting machine 9".
The present invention relates to a rotary cutting device for paper trimming and cutting machines, and particularly recommended for cutting sheets of all formats, starting from a paper reel.
The object of the invention is in particular to oréer a machine capable of trimming and cutting the paper or any other material in sheets in a continuous and rapid manner, according to any predetermined dimensions.
The device according to the invention has, in the main order, a support of cylindrical shape, driven by a rotational movement, and in the wall of which a certain
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
/ number of grooves, located along generatrices, and serving to release the cutting members after the cutting operation thereof, and a support cylinder for the cutting members, also driven by a rotational movement, but controlled in such a way, by an appropriate mechanism, that it can perform its rotational movements at speeds different from the uniform and practically constant speed of the support cylinder for the sheet of cut paper.
As a result of this arrangement, any sheet size can be obtained, by suitably dividing the clearance grooves on the surface of the support cylinder, and by choosing a suitable ratio between the angular speeds of the support cylinder for the paper and of the blade support cylinder.
A practical and simple solution consists in the use of interchangeable gear wheels, for the transmission of the rotational movement of the support cylinder to the cutters, or vice versa, one of the two elements being mounted so that it can be moved parallel by compared to the other, with the aim of allowing the use of meshing wheels of different diameters and corresponding to the angular speeds of the elements mentioned, determining any sheet format.
Another characteristic of the invention consists of the combination, with the aforementioned cylinder, of pneumatic means, operating by suction on the sheet to be cut and forcing the latter to remain permanently applied against said sheet during the cutting operation. .
The various aforementioned features can obviously be implemented in practice using a large number of means, given that the device, in its final form, will depend on the extent of the work required of this device,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and the material to be processed.
As a purely example, a practical embodiment of a rotary cutting device for a paper trimming and cutting machine, is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device;
Figure 2 is a section taken on line II - II of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross section taken on the line III - III of Figure 1.
From these figures it therefore follows that the main parts of the machine comprise, substantially and in combination, the following elements: the member for supporting the sheet of paper to be cut, resulting from a carefully placed reel , is produced by two ooquilles 1, in the form of two hollow semi-cylinders. These two shells are mounted on a longitudinal axis 2 which can rotate in the bearings 3 mounted on the frame of the machine. On the other hand, @ these shells are internally profiled so as to present a series of channels 4, communicating with the exterior through the intervention of orifices 5, drilled in the external wall of the shells.
These channels are in communication, via flexible conduits 6, with a manifold 7, in which a vacuum is produced by the intervention of any pneumatic machine, of a known type and used for, and use, such, for example: pump, turbine, eto ... The depression of the manifold 7 will determine a rarefaction of the air in the pipes 4, and, consequently, a pressure difference between @ this pipe and the outside , which constitutes the means of applying the sheet of paper to be cut against the outer surface of the perforated support 1. The latter also has longitudinal grooves 8, in sufficient number to be able to @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
cut the paper to the desired size.
Opposite the support member 1, the cutting mechanism is arranged, consisting mainly of a knife-holder cylinder 9, mounted in bearings according to the usual construction in this field. On this cylinder are mounted several cutting blades 10, arranged in generatrices of the support and, for example, fixed in suitable grooves, in such a way that they can be moved in the radial direction; this is necessary for the compensation of the displacements of the paper cylinder or of the knife-holder cylinder, when changing gears.
For a well-determined number of clearance grooves provided on the paper cylinder, the widest and tightest range of sheet formats possible is obtained by dividing the grooves in which the cutting blades are fixed. 10, as illustrated in Figure 3.
As this figure shows, one half of the cylindrical surface is divided into three equal parts, while the other half is divided into four equal parts, so as to obtain seven grooves, in which the cutting blades can be mounted as explained below. -in front of.
These cutting blades are arranged in such a way that, during the rotation of the support member 1 and of the frame 9, said blades 10 come into correspondence, after each revolution, with one of the grooves 8, the edge outside of the blade penetrating very slightly into said grooves.
As a result of this arrangement, the paper will be cut in a uniform and rapid manner by the pressure exerted on the web of paper by said blades. Therefore, it is understandable that the operation of the machine, according to the invention, can be continued in a continuous manner by the simple rotation of the support member 1 and the cylinder.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
knife holder 10 which determines a continuous unwinding of the reel, as well as a successive cutting of the sheets to the desired format, which is adjusted by the position of the blades with respect to the slots 8 of the support 1.
The various principal parts above will obviously be mounted in relation to all other components generally used in machines of the kind to obtain the various movements required, to facilitate these movements, to carry out in a rational manner the lubrication of the various moving elements, eto ....
On the other hand, the various elements above can easily be replaced by any other similar and of equivalent function. The arrangement of the suction channels and openings will be carefully determined, so as to require a minimum capacity of the vacuum pump.
The general manifold 1 can be mounted, fixed or mobile, on the axis 2, and the flexible conduits 6, connecting this collector 7 to the various suction conduits 4, will be arranged accordingly.
Also, the material employed will in principle be any and preferably that is generally in use in the manufacture of machine tools.
