<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvement in slime and muddy product evacuators".
The present invention relates to an improvement made to the apparatuses evaouateurs of slime and muddy products and more particularly to apparatuses of this type, used in coal and ore washhouses by the so-called alluvial process by means of rheolavers. These evacuators in the latter application must, during work, remain filled with a relatively dense sludge and they must, in general, have only a relatively very low flow rate, which flow rate must, moreover, be adjustable.
This results in the need for an exhaust port
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in patite section, hence various drawbacks and in particular the risk of obstruction of these discharge openings.
Various devices have already been proposed so far in order to avoid this obstruction. Thus, a needle has been proposed which periodically penetrates into the adjustable frustoconical orifice for evacuation in the .but de cause the orifice to clear / if necessary. These devices, however, are not satisfactory in all cases; intermittent operation may cause some irregularity in the flow rate of the device, which may be harmful.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks; it consists in placing below the evacuating apparatus, a shutter whose upper surface takes the form of a bowl which in a way embraces the end of the evacuating apparatus. The invention also relates to various other construction details, which will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, which represent, by way of example, and not limitation, one embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of an evacuating device of the type used in washhouses with small coals or slimes.
Figure 2 is another section of the lower part of the discharge apparatus, the bucket occupying another relative position.
FIG. 3 is a section of a bucket, produced according to one embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 4 is a view of the lower part of a bucket according to one embodiment of the invention.
Referring to these figures, 1 represents an evacuating device of the type used in washhouses with small coals or slurries. For the example shown, this device is
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
arranged at the end of a corridor 10. This apparatus is normally filled with a dense mud. This device is provided with an evacuation orifice 2, which, in the example shown in the drawing, will be of relatively large section, so as to avoid any danger of obstruction due to the too great compactness of the mabière to be evacuated. or which would be caused by the accidental presence in the material of a too large body. 3 shows a shutter whose upper part is, in accordance with the invention, in the form of a bowl.
In the example shown in Figures 1 and 2, the bottom 5¯ of the bowl is flat, and the side surfaces 6 of the bowl forming overflow thresholds are perpendicular to the bottom, so as to create, thanks to their more or less height large enveloping the end of the evacuating device, an adjustable mud resistance which allows to rectify in a more precise way, the annular passage already mentioned.
It must, however, be understood that the opener can show any other shape and in particular a concave shape favoring the sliding, towards the bottom of the bowl, of particles too large to be able to pass into the adjustable annular section. The bottom of the bowl may be of conical shape as shown in Figure 3, which further increases this possibility of sliding. This arrangement allows the formation of a certain deposit of these large particles without in any way affecting the setting of the annular section. The bucket, the lower part of which is shown in FIG. 3, is provided with a spare cylindrical orifice 9, in which slides with gentle friction a straight sleeve 11, provided, in its upper part, with a cap 12 , acting as a shutter.
It suffices to push the sleeve 11 upwards to allow the evacuation of the particles accumulated in the bottom of the bowl. This dis-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This position will be particularly useful when the processed product contains fairly large particles.
The flow of muddy products can be adjusted in two ways:
1) by adjusting the distance between the lower part of the spillway 1 and the bottom of the bowl, and
2) by adjusting the height of the overflow threshold 6.
To do this, the upper part of the shutter 3 is threaded and is screwed onto the overflow threshold 6. This threshold is supported by a nut 7, screwed onto a ring 8 integral with the device 1.
In the example shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, the lower part of the shutter has the shape of a cone. In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the lower part of the shutter is formed of a sawtooth strip cut from a conical or cylindrical surface.
This latter arrangement facilitates the detachment of the mud which has a tendency to stick to the bottom wall of the device.
The obturator device, according to the invention, as described above, makes it possible to reduce the flow rate of the device, which would otherwise be too high because of the large section of the discharge orifice. In addition, this device makes it possible to obtain a very regular flow, which contributes to ensuring a constant and homogeneous density of the products contained in the spillway 1.
