<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
I.- Pneumatique

Unloading bombs for aircraft or the like with remote pneumatic control for individual triggering ----------------------------------- -------------------------- or in automatic succession -------------------- --------
The present invention relates to a bomb trigger for an aircraft or the like with remote pneumatic control for triggering individually or in automatic succession, and provided with different control and safety devices.
The main organ consists of a hook formed by two jaws which the weight of the bomb tries to open while a stop slide jams the upper part of the jaws to keep them closed at their lower part.
This plate-shaped jamming slide is blocked, when the bomb is attached to the hook, by means of a pivot, integral with a body, engaging in an inclined slot, milled in another movement slide. perpendicular to that of the first slider, so that the jamming slider can release the jaws of said
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
hook, only if the second slide is advanced. This advancement can be produced at will by manual, pneumatic or electromagnetic action. However, the advancement of the second slide is not possible if a special safety device has not been disengaged by the voluntary advancement of a piston which then pushes against the second slide.
When the bomb has been detonated, the open jaws of the hook are placed, like cams, in a position such as to prevent the first slide from returning to the wedging position between these jaws.
An electric buzzer signals by two green and red electric lamps the charge condition of the hook discharge respectively. This inverter is actuated automatically by the second slide and it can be of any kind; (electric, electromagnetic or other).
The piston which is used to push the second slide can be controlled remotely by as many keys as there are hooks. These hooks are arranged in rows in a frame, while the corresponding keys are preferably arranged in two or three rows, in a base placed at a distance from said frame.
As bombs can be hung in stacked rows it is best to ensure that a bomb that is on top of another cannot be detonated if the latter is not already.
The various keys are arranged in such a way as to open valves, which are dependent on each other, so that the compressed air is forced to follow a determined course before reaching the pistons which advance. cer the slides.
The invention also looks at a device which seals the chamber where the control piston slides,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
when the latter, having reached the end of its course, must remain in this position until the hook is not charged again by another bomb.
Embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawing, given by way of example only:
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the hook with a pneumatically or manually operated deolanohement.
Fig. 2 shows, on a smaller scale, an external elevational view of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section of a prism block with all the buttons for controlling the valves of compressed air lines.
Fig. 4 is a section through a pneumatic safety device to be incorporated into the device of FIG. 1 to avoid the detachment of a bomb before that of another bomb suspended below the first and on the same vertical.
Fig. 5 is a top view of part of a keypad for pneumatic control.
Fig. 6 gives a longitudinal section of the device according to FIG. 1, with variant of the signaling device.
Fig. 7 shows the detail of a remote control by means of cables.
With particular reference to the figures in drawing 1
1 is a duraluminium box having below an extension in which are mounted the two opposite jaws 2, 3 pivoted at 4, 5. An optional spring 6 seeks to keep open at the bottom the hook formed by these jaws. The converging planes 2 ', 6' 'allow easy entry of the suspension ring of the bomb, which is placed in the hollow 8, formed behind their point of contact 7.
Both jaws are held in the closed position, as
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in fig. 1 and 6, by a vertically sliding slide which wedges the upper, cam-shaped peripheries of these jaws.
The slide 9 does not have direct contact with the upper circumference of the cams 2, 3 but via the rollers 10, 11.
, The slide 9 forming the engagement body is provided with a pivot 12, engaged in an inclined slot 13 milled in another slide 14 which can slide in the horizontal direction. This slide 14 can be pushed by a piston 18 provided with a rod 17 which, in turn, can be pushed by a rod 26 provided with a head 27. Operation by hand: If the rod is pushed 26, this moves the slide 14 forward through 17, 18; then, the slot 13 moves to the left; the pivot 12 rises with its cou0 sledge 9 and the bomb is triggered.
The spring 22, operating by pushing, seeks to return the piston 18 back. However, balls such as 20 arranged in recesses 21 on the periphery of the piston 14 prevent this return, due to the fact that this coupling secures the piston 19 with the slide 14, the latter being linked to the position of the slide 9, which , in turn, cannot slide down, because the upper periphery of the jaws 2, 3 then wedges against the lower side of the slider 9.
In this condition, an inverter comprising contact discs 62 and 63 and terminals 66,67, 68 closes a circuit which lights a red lamp, for example placed in key 27 (showing that the bomb has been detonated). .
The position shown in fig. 1 is the normal waiting period, to which corresponds: bomb in suspension, hook closed, inverter closing the circuit of a green lamp.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The latter position cannot be varied if the piston 18 is not pushed forward. In fact, the ball 20 then wedges against the inclined plane 21. Only, if the piston 18 advances in the hollow 19 of the slide 14, touching the bottom 19 ', the balls 20 can rise on the ram 2 and stand behind the head 18 of the piston, thus allowing the slide 14 to advance to the left.
For the pneumatic control, a piston 16 is provided on the rod 17,
The compressed air enters the chamber behind the piston 16 through the channel 35, the air arriving at 23 by means of a corresponding pipe 49 (fig. 3), after having tilted upwards such a button. 41. During the advancement of the piston 16 the head of the rod 26 presses against the gasket 25, thus ensuring the sealing of the chamber located behind the piston 16.
In the distributor body 28 of the compressed air supplied, there is hollowed out a central channel 29 (FIG. 3) supplied by the compressed air source. The air arrives for example at the pipe 49 by lowering a valve 31, pushed upwards by a spring 32. The valve SI can be pushed downwards by means of the sliding pipe 37, whose lower edge closes against the gasket 36. A membrane 59 ensures the etanoheity of the air passage chamber, where slides the guide body 38 of the pipe 37 returned upwards by the spring 48. By bringing the lever 41 into the position shown on the left, its head 47 rises, pipe 37 rises, and the air passes into the following circuit: pipe 29, valve 31, pipe 49, fitting 23 (fig. 1).
In the position of the lever shown to the right (fig.3) the residual compressed air escapes through the pipe 37 and through a small hole 50 in order to relieve the pressure from the pipe 49, 49 '.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
It is also possible to lower the pipe 37 by means of the cams 46, the eccentricity of which makes each button lower in the order provided. Any number of keys 41 and corresponding parts can be provided for remotely operating an equal number of hooks 2, 3.
To prevent a bomb which is located above another bomb, in a vertical line, from being launched before the latter., For example, a device like that indicated in FIG. 4.
The valve 51 is mounted on the rod 52 which forms the extension of the slide 14 shown in FIG. 1. There are two membranes 53, 54 and a valve 51 formed in the cylindrical wall 15, (Fig. 4); 56 is the compressed air inlet pipe controlled by the lever 41 corresponding to the bomb to be released; 57 is the exhaust pipe which brings air to the bomb fang box placed below.
If valve 51 is open, it means that the lower bomb has been launched, and then air can come in, through this valve 56 to 57 and then to the box of the bomb triggering device which is located above.
To prevent the prior departure of the bomb which is located above on the same vertical as another bomb, it is provided in key 58, which controls the upper bomb, a finger 60 which pushes on key 59 of the lower bomb. - re in question, so that this one is obliged to leave before the other.
In fig. 6 are shown schematically the two electromagnet devices a and b which can be used as an alternative to produce the advancement of the rod 17 or the advancement of the rod 26.
In fig. 7 shows a device allowing to
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
order the rod 26 with a cable o.
It is therefore possible to provide for the same triggering device the possibility of three commands which can be used at will, and which can exist.
I.- Pneumatic
II.- Electromagnetic III.- A. the hand (by push-button, or by cable).
In order to seal the chamber where the piston 16 is located, the gasket d (fig. '6) is provided in the bottom, which makes it possible to maintain the pressure without leaks.
In the electric inverter shown in fig. 6 the two springs, one wider and longer (green lamp circuit) and the other! shorter and narrower (red lamp circuit) alternately have the role of electrical conductor.
The invention has been described and illustrated purely as an indication and in no way limiting, and it goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to its details, without departing from its spirit.
