<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"ROTARY DRUMS ROTATING AROUND THEIR LONGI AXIS, 1"! - - -% The invention relates to reverberating reverberating ovens, converters, mixers, or similar rotary drums, which rotate about their longitudinal axis and are tiltable about an axis perpendicular to their longitudinal axis. Its purpose is to make the furnace movement device as simple and compact as possible. As a result, the casing of the furnace becomes easily accessible from the outside, and can therefore be provided, if necessary, with additional devices, such as openings, for example nozzles for the introduction of the more substances. various, or tap holes, or the like, as required.
In addition, this results in advantages from the point of view of thermal expansion of the furnace.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to the invention, the rotary drum is mounted in a support ring which does not rotate around the longitudinal axis of the drum and usefully disposed in the middle of the length of the latter. The support ring is tiltable, for example by means of two pivots, about an axis oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the oven. Instead of pivots, other tumbling means can be used for overturning, for example discs or segments. The tumbling axis usefully passes through the horizontal line of the center of gravity of the tube furnace.
But there is nothing to prevent the tilting axis of the support ring from being placed higher or lower; the arrangement at a height, for example lower, can be carried out so that, from the point of view of balancing, not only the weight of the rotating drum, but also simultaneously the weight of the load is taken into account. Between - the support ring and the casing of the drum are arranged the two rolling rings and further a toothed ring, which can be located, for example, between the rolling rings, or outside them. The support ring, which does not rotate along the longitudinal axis of the drum, is fitted with rolling rollers, and is also provided with support rollers, which hold the oven in exact position relative to the support ring, when said oven occupies an inclined or vertical position.
The support rollers are advantageously arranged between the rolling rings, because thus a single series of support rollers is sufficient.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention in the form of a rotating drum, tumbling on pivots.
Figure 1 shows a longitudinal view of the rotating drum.

FIG. 5, a reverberating rotary oven according to the invention.
At 1 is shown the casing of the rotating drum, made in the usual way of iron or steel sheets and carrying at its two ends the front walls? and 3. The drum can be coated in a known manner, for example, in the case of rotary reverberatory furnaces, or converters, or mixers, or the like, it will be lined with a refractory lining 4 in masonry, or rammed * The ring support 5 with pivots 6 and 1 is arranged in the middle of the length of the drum.
It is made for example of cast steel and has on its end faces bearings ¯8 for the axes 11 of the rollers 12. In addition, it comprises a spacer 9 carrying the bearings 10 for the inner ends of the pins 11. In addition , the support ring is provided with guides 13 for the axes 14 of the support rollers 15.
On the casing of the drum is arranged the toothed ring 16, and on both sides of the toothed ring, are arranged the bearing rings 17, which are maintained, - with a certain clearance in the longitudinal direction, -in exact position relative to the drum and the support ring, by the angle rings 18, fixed to the casing of the drum, and by the support rollers 15. The bearing rings and the toothed ring surround the drum with a certain clearance, the crown toothed being ensured with: -: being the rotary displacements relative to the drum, while the rolling rings roll freely along their inner face on the casing of the drum. At 19 are shown corresponding reinforcements of the drum casing.
As for the drive, known as such, the drive pinion 21 is disposed inside the support ring, while the other parts of the drive and the motor 20 are attached to the outer side of the ring. support. The pivots 6 and? are advantageously hollow. Oeoi has the advantage of making it possible to place the current socket for the motor 20, in one of the

yours. for example 7.En. 22 and 23 are shown the bearings of the pivots and at 24 the foundations carrying these bearings. The tumbling of the drum around the transverse axis is effected by means of the gear 25.
The operation of the rotating drum is as follows:
To be loaded, the rotating drum is placed in an oblique or vertical position, and the load is introduced through an opening 26 in the uppermost front wall 2. Then the drum is carried in a horizontal position, or less oblique, and is: nis en rotation. The rotating drum is heated in the usual manner, for example by the use of gaseous, liquid or solid fuels, the heating agent being usefully introduced into the drum through an opening in one of the front walls of the drum.
For example, the fuel in question will be introduced into the furnace if necessary via a combustion chamber.
The exhaust gases from the furnace can be discharged through an opening in the other front wall, for example 3, of the drum. It is also possible to stop the drum from time to time and to introduce, through openings in casing of the furnace, gases or other materials, directly in the charge. Therefore the rotary drum according to the invention can be used directly for example, for copper refining, lead reduction, voiding metal processing, grilling, and the like. After finishing the treatment of a load the oven is again brought to an oblique position, or is otherwise emptied, the emptying being possible either through the openings in the front faces,
either through special draining or pouring holes.In the oblique or vertical position of the furnace, the upper rolling ring 17 is placed with one side against the upper angle ring 18. Its other side then rests on the rollers d The bearing 15. The lower bearing ring rests on the lower angle ring 18, and there is some clearance between the lower bearing ring and the bearing rollers. This clearance, as well as the clearance between the drum shell and the rings
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
bearing, as well as the clearance between the ring gear and the casing of the drum are intended to ensure the possibility of compensation for thermal expansions occurring during operation.
In the oblique position the weight of the drum is therefore supported partially by the rolling rollers 12, and partially by the support rollers 15, while in the vertical position the support rollers 15 alone support the weight.
This embodiment makes it possible to tumble the rotary drum as required, at any angle around its transverse axis passing through the pivots. After a rotation of 180, the control located according to FIG. 2 at the bottom, appears at the top, but always acting in the same direction. An alternate operation in these two positions is useful, for example in the event of strong heating, in order to ensure uniform wear of the coating on both ends of the furnace, and because of longer campaigns. The rotary drum according to the invention can also rotate in an oblique position.
The embodiment according to FIG. 5, - which shows a metallurgical furnace in two different oblique positions, shows that a gas-tight connection can be provided in a simple manner between the rotary furnace and the discharge channel. outlet gases, even when the furnace occupies a rather pronounced oblique position, for example during the evacuation of slag.
