<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
La fig. 5 montre en coupe une autre forme d'exécution de l'invention, dans laquelle le voile annulaire est ondulé. Cette ondulation peut être simple ou multiple elle peut stétendre sur le voile entier ou sur une partie seulement;
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
L-a fig.

"Sliding bearing".
Several types of spherical bearings are known which can adapt to the inclinations of a shaft. In general, these spherical bearings have spherical seats which can slide on one another depending on the inclination of the shaft. These spherical bearings can be constructed by mounting a bearing with a spherical outer surface in an equally spherical cavity of the fixed element, or by giving a spherical shape to the rotating member itself. These spherical bearings do not have
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
only have rigid members and this results in the drawback of a fairly expensive construction, in particular because of the high precision required for machining the spherical surfaces.
In devices of the first kind, the inclinations of the shaft produce oscillating movements of the spherical surfaces one upon the other which start from the rest position and which must therefore overcome the friction of starting. It follows that the initiation of the oscillatory movements requires relatively considerable efforts, so that a bearing of this type responds quite late to the request, which causes a considerable local force. Devices of the second type operate with peripheral speeds relatively high and therefore produce considerable temperatures and a very thin oil film which can withstand only a small load.
Rolling ball joints have also been proposed, but these produce fairly high unit pressures on the bearing surface and consequently rapid wear of the rolling surfaces, so that centering is not guaranteed.
In addition, universal joint ball joints are known, the construction of which is very expensive; moreover, these ball joints are not suitable for high forces and their operation differs depending on the orientation. Attempts have been made to remedy this defect by housing the carrier element in a flexible member (rubber or the like), but devices of this kind offer practically no resistance to pressure and can only be used for lightly loaded bearings.
These flexible components are poor conductors of heat from
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
@ so that the bearing temperature rises, which limits the use of this bearing. Finally, ball joints have been proposed, in which the carrier element is clamped in a ring made of sheet steel, held with hard friction in a support by a threaded cap. Bearings of this kind can only be fitted with difficulty and do not ensure correct centering; their operation depends entirely on the frictional resistance. we cannot therefore manufacture these ball joints so that they are ready for assembly.
According to the invention, the ball joint is constituted by a supporting element, an elastic member and an outer ring, these three elements being constituted in such a way that no deformation can occur as long as the load remains normal (radial displacement of the center ball joint), but that the elastic member allows the support element to be placed obliquely before the oil film is broken, as soon as the shaft takes an oblique position. The supporting element, the elastic member and the outer crown can be made in one piece and the material can be chosen such that this piece also serves as a pad, for example in the case of the use of special bronzes.
A sliding bearing according to the invention is on the one hand ready to be mounted in any machines without prior adjustment; the manufacturing costs are relatively low and this bearing offers sufficient mechanical resistance to the pressure due to the load. It avoids any exaggerated effort of the oil film in the event of tilting of the shaft by the fact that the elastic member is deformed and it allows the manufacture of bearings.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
sliding bearings at relatively low peripheral speed.
Fig. 1 schematically shows the principle of the invention. 1 designates the carrier element which may be the support of the pad; the elastic member is in this case constituted by the web 2 which is represented schematically by a rectilinear line indicating the property of absorption of the load and a zig-zag line, indicating the property of the elastic deformation in the event of inclination of the tree. 4 is the outer ring and 3 is the bearing generally formed by the part of the machine in which the sliding bearing 06 is mounted, 5 is the center of the load-bearing element and the point of attack of the resultant of the pressures of the layer lubricant; P designates the load having its point of attack at 5.
In the arrangement shown in fig 1, it is assumed that the geometric axes of the shaft and of the supporting element are parallel to each other.
Under these conditions, the resilient member supports the shaft without producing a rotational torque, because, as was said above, this member has sufficient strength and rigidity to be able to withstand the load.
Fig. 2 schematically shows the operating conditions in the event of tilting of the shaft. this position occurs when the shaft tilts under the action of a system of external forces; it can also exist before assembly. While, the axes being parallel to each other, as shown in figure 1, the force of the load passes through the center 5 of the supporting element, the inclination causes an offset of the center of attack from 5 to 5 '. , in the direction of the lowering of 18 shaft
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the shaft, that is to say to the right in fig. 2. This results in a torque P. a.
The elastic web 2 being deformable, this torque causes an elastic or plastic deformation, before the: lubricant (the oil film) is subjected to an exaggerated force, that is to say before the film is is broken. This was represented in figure 2 by the fact that the zig-zag line indicating the deformation property of the web 2 is inclined relative to the rectilinear line indicating the resistance to pressure and the rigidity. As a result of this deformation, the carrier element follows the tilting movement of the shaft and this tilting movement cannot cause lubricant wear or even seizure.
The adjustment of the sliding surfaces of the bearing according to the invention takes place as soon as a torque P.a. minimal and the result is a new state of equilibrium opposing the reaction of the elastic organ.
Fig 3 shows schematically an embodiment of the device according to the invention, in which the elastic member is formed by the outer ring 4, which the figure indicates by the fact that the zig-zag line is attached to the line 4, representing the outer crown.
This can be achieved for example by giving the outer ring a cross section of suitable shape - for example by providing recesses in this outer ring so as to give it 1 = suitable elasticity and deformation profile.
Of course, the two arrangements shown schematically in FIGS. 1 and 3, can be combined with each other, that is to say, we can give the veil joining
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
bringing together the supporting element and the crown, and to the outer crown itself, the conformation necessary to obtain on the one hand a suitable resistance to the load pressure, and on the other hand a possibility of deformation in proportion.
A few practical embodiments of the subject of the invention will be described below.
Fig. 4 shows in section a simple embodiment of the bearing according to the invention, in which the prior element contains a duille 6 of anti-friction material. The bearing can be made of steel, for example, while the barrel will be made of bronze. The outer ring will preferably receive a bearing allowing it to rest against the bearing by a narrow seat. If the pressure of the load must produce a considerable deformation of the outer ring, it will not be favored by the usually expected play. For a low clearance, we will therefore use a smaller outer ring than for a larger clearance.
Fig. 5 shows in section another embodiment of the invention, in which the annular web is corrugated. This corrugation can be single or multiple, it can extend over the entire veil or over only a part;
Fig. 6 shows another exemplary embodiment of the invention, in which the annular web is formed by the core of a ring having a U-shaped section. The veil being formed by a separate part, one can naturally use for its manufacture a material other than that used for the manufacture of the other organs; one can for example use a material having particular properties
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
particular with regard to the compressive strength of the load and the possibility of deformation.
The ring can be connected to the rotating element by any means, for example by welding or by press fitting.
L-a fig. 7 shows in section another = exemplary embodiment of the invention; in this example, the annular veil is arranged in a plane lying outside the plane of symmetry Z of the carrier element.
This arrangement, which is suitable in particular for lightly loaded bearings, offers the advantage that it has the manufacturing of a lever arm to the pressure of the load. This lever arm is designated by b in fig. 7. A bearing thus formed responds to stress much more easily than the embodiments in which the web is located in the plane of symmetry Z and this embodiment is therefore particularly suitable for low loads.
Figs. 8, 9, 10, 11 are side views of fragments of the annular web 2. In these examples, recesses of various shapes and of variable distribution have been made in the web, according to the desired strength properties. It is obvious that the shape and the distribution of these recesses can be modified according to the intended purpose.
Fig. 12 shows a fragment of an outer ring 4 (developed) formed so that it has on the one hand the desired resistance to the pressure of the load and on the other hand the desired possibility of deformation.
Fig. 12shows a section taken along the line X-X of FIG. 12.
Of
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
Preferably, the annular web will be given dimensions such that the difference between the radii of the inner and outer peripheries (R and r) is equal to at least five times the average thickness of this web.
This offers the advantage that the dimensions can be determined according to the simplest construction rule, the dimensions of the other types being able to be determined without toning by means of a coefficient.
For making the annular veil, or the outer crown, one can in principle be based on the choice of a material and / or the choice of special shapes of the sections. As a general rule, it will be advisable to proceed by choosing not only a specific material, but also by providing for sections of special shapes. But the invention is feasible even on bearings made entirely of a single determined material, for example a special bronze. It will be necessary to determine in each case which bearings will be manufactured with one or several materials or with a particular shape of section.
The bearing according to the invention can also be constructed in a known manner such that it can oppose axial forces.
