<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Method of fixing adhesion devices for wheels of motor vehicles or others".
There are many types of traction devices for motor vehicle wheels, ranging from simple snow chains to more powerful devices designed for off-road use.
Most of these devices are fitted and held in place on the tire, requiring the various elements to be linked together.
This results in a long and laborious adjustment.
Other devices are mounted by independent elements connected to the wheel by articulations or by hooks, assembly which then requires ad hoc adaptation of the wheel.
The present invention relates to a new :.), method of fixing any grip device, characterized in that each grip element is fixed directly to the tire, without requiring either connections between the elements, or any adaptation. of the wheel.
To this end, the adhesion element itself is made
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
integral with a kind of caliper, fixing itself by clamping in the sidewalls of the tire and constructed in such a way that it cannot be removed without the intervention of a special effort or an appropriate dismantling device.
The appended drawing represents schematically by way of example, an application mode showing the principle on which the invention is based.
Figure 1 shows a section of the tire and of the fixing device in place.
Fig. 2 gives a section along I - I of fig. 1.
The tire is represented by 1. The grip element proper is shown schematically by 2. This element is integral with a étriier 3 with rounded inner faces, the branches of which clamp the sidewalls of the tire. To hold the stirrup in place, the branches end in a constriction 4 bypassing the sides and constituting a retaining device.
The branches of the caliper can slide on the sidewalls of the tire, to allow the element to rest properly on the bearing tread and to tilt slightly on its base, to give it the maximum effectiveness of attachment to the ground .
During travel, the device thus formed is subjected to three types of stresses: lateral reactions, rapid support and centrifugal force forces, tangential forces for attachment to the ground.
Note that the tangential forces develop on the element a tilting torque with a small lever arm, 'which is opposed by a retaining torque having as a lever arm the height of the branches of the caliper.
It is therefore easy to combine the tightening and the coefficient of adhesion of the caliper on the tire to make its removal possible only with the help of a special effort or an appropriate dismantling device. not exercising in service.
It is easy to see that the fixing principle illustrated by the example above can be the subject of numerous variants of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
achievements, particularly aimed at facilitating assembly and disassembly.
Thus by way of example: The adhesion element proper can be of any kind and be constituted according to the service envisaged.
It can be mounted fixed, removable or articulated on the bracket; it can even be confused with the base of the stirrup. Several elements could also be mounted on the same bracket.
The shape and construction of the stirrup can be achieved in very different ways.
The branches, instead of being rigid, can themselves be elastic or with adjustable spacing, etc.
The retaining device on the sidewalls of the tire can be highly variable: with fixed or articulated beads, cams or bosses, combined with safety, with sculpted grip faces, etc.
If each element can be made to fit on the tire without the help of other connections, nothing obviously prevents the various elements of a wheel lining from being connected together, with the main aim of spacing them regularly around the periphery of the wheel. pneumatic, these connections then no longer being essential as in most existing adhesion devices.
The assembly by successive fixing of each element of a whole wheel lining will then be made much easier and faster, mainly when the wheel is stuck.
In many cases, it will suffice to mount only a small number of isolated elements to get out of a bad situation.
It can therefore be seen from these few examples that the present invention can be the subject of numerous combinations of embodiments, without changing the principle of fixing explained above.
In summary of the above, it emerges that the new method of fixing adhesion devices which is the subject of the invention has the following main advantages: 1) Simple, light, robust and economical construction.
2) Safe, quick and easy assembly.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
3) Possibility of working as required with one, several or a complete set of elements.
4) Instant application to any wheel, without requiring any adaptation.
5) Maximum efficiency of adhesion by allowing the element to tilt and anchor itself properly in the ground.
6) Large field of application that can be applied to all kinds of adhesion elements.
