  BREVET D'INVENTION.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

     Finalement.quelle que soit la méthode adoptée pour mettre en place les joints 10, ceux-ci se trouvent comprimés, lors du serrage des écrous 7, entre les épaulements 6 et les extrémités 11 des presse- joints 8 ,

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  PATENT. "Improvements made to pipe fittings, in particular to those for gasoline or pressurized oxygen pipes".

   The invention relates to pipe fittings of the type of those for which each seal is compressed between the internal wall of a connection manahon and a pressjoint held by a tightening nut coacting with said sleeve; and it relates more particularly, because it is in their case that its application seems to have the most interest, but not exclusively, among these devices, those for gasoline or pressurized oxygen pipelines.

   Its aim, above all, is to make the said devices such that they respond better than to date to the various requirements of practice and in particular that they are more waterproof.

   It consists, mainly, in having recourse, to constitute the seals to be included in devices of the kind

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 in question, to washers or better to spiral elements, which are advantageously established in lead or in a textile material such as linen.

   It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.

   It relates more particularly to certain modes of application, as well as certain embodiments, of the aforesaid provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, to the devices of the type in question comprising the application of these same provisions, the special elements, in particular the gaskets, specific to their establishment, as well as the apparatus or installations comprising of similar devices,
And it can, in any case, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.

   The single figure of this drawing represents ,, in axial section, a tpyauterie connection established in accordance with the invention, certain members of said connection being shown spaced apart from the others.

   According to the invention and more especially according to that of its modes of application. as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing, for example, to establish a connection which should allow two pipes 1 and 2 to be joined end to end. , in which must circulate, for example again, gasoline or oxygen under pressure, the procedure is as follows or analogously.

   Regarding first of all this device as a whole with the exception of the seals to be made to include it, it can be established in many ways, and, in particular, as shown in the drawing, by making it essentially include, a symmetrical connection sleeve 3, the middle part of which

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 is provided with a hexagon 4 and the ends of which are threaded ,, said sleeve comprising internally, on either side of its plane of symmetry, a shoulder 5 against which bears the end of the corresponding pipe and a shoulder 6 against which the seal is crushed as will be more explicitly indicated in what follows,

     @ two tightening brackets 7 suitable for being screwed respectively onto the ends of the aforesaid sleeve 3, and two press-seals 8, of cylindrical shape, each comprising a stop collar 9 suitable for receiving the pressure transmitted by the corresponding nut 7, the part of these seal presses intended to engage in the sleeve 3 having substantially the same dimensions as the part of said sleeve between its end and the shoulder 6, so that the seal cannot be driven out between the seal press and the inner wall of the aforesaid sleeve.

   As regards then the aforesaid joint, in order to constitute it, in accordance with the main provision of the invention, use is made of: washers or better and, as will be assumed in what follows, of spiral elements 10 , which is advantageously made of a malleable metal such as lead or of a textile material such as linen thread.

   It is possible, for this purpose and for example, either to establish said joints in advance and to mount them as rings at the end of each of the pipes 1 and 2 to be joined, before inserting said end inside the sleeve 3, or constitute them by winding directly at the end of each of said pipes a linen thread or a lead wire, or else proceed in any other way.

   It should be noted that, when the seals 10 are established in advance and made from a textile material, they are advantageously impregnated with wax in order to give them support.

     Finally, whatever the method adopted for fitting the seals 10, they are compressed, when the nuts 7 are tightened, between the shoulders 6 and the ends 11 of the seal presses 8,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

This results in a slight deformation of the tubes 1 and 2 in line with said joints, which deformation has the effect of ensuring that said tubes are blocked inside the sleeve 3.

   In any event and whatever the embodiment adopted, a connection has been established which has, among other advantages,. that of being quick and easy to assemble, and, above all, of being perfectly waterproof.

   One could, of course, proceed in the same way to connect more than two pipes to one another, in which case several coupling sleeves are provided, or to connect a pipe and a valve device, the coupling sleeve then being preferably integral with said device.

   As goes without saying and as it follows moreover already from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, having been more specially indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants thereof, in particular those where the seals would be established in a material other than those more particularly explained by way of example in the above.
