<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Le charbon continuera à ali- menter le foyer en face de 02 , jusqu'à ce que 03 S'ouvre, la zone 02 devenant inactive , et ainsi de suite jusqu'à ce que le foyer soit en 05 toujours alimenté par la trémie l'aire étant alors couverte de mâchefer sur toute la partie inférieure - ce moment on pourra enlever le gâteau de mâche- fer en ouvrant la porte p et en enlevant les broches B , après avoir eu soin de fermer le seuil S 6 On conservera du feu en face de 01 en replacant les broches B, on refermera la porte P, on ouvrira doucement le registre S ,le charbon recouvrira l'aire ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Combustion process and apparatus"
The object of the present invention is a combustion process characterized by the use of gravity for the automatic supply of a hearth with a thin layer of fuel and by the gradual displacement, from the bottom to the top of the hearth, of the ignition zone, so as to leave in place a mass of clinker which can only be removed at fairly considerable time intervals
The invention also relates to a combustion apparatus for carrying out the above process, characterized by a fuel flow ramp provided, for the primary air inlet, with nozzles or stepped slots,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
which are successively open from bottom to top the introduction of air through the lower slits ceasing when the clinker has completely replaced the coal in front of them
The control of the opening and closing of said nozzles or primary air injection slots is preferably carried out automatically by means of devices with a photoelectric cell, or with a thermostat or the equivalent.
The invention also relates to an alternative embodiment characterized by a solid inclined area on which move, within the carbon and from bottom to top, one or more air blowing nozzles.
It also aims in all cases to use, instead of air-force, hot air taken from the device itself, so as to avoid the use of motive force while obtaining an increase in the temperature of the fireplace easily. - determining the formation of bottom ash and the production of gas,
The single figure of the appended drawing shows by way of example in schematic vertical section an embodiment of the combustion apparatus which is the subject of the invention.
A hopper T contains the fuel which, through an adjustable threshold S, can flow over the inclined area.
This has for example five insufilation slots 01 to 05 supplied by the same wind box v.
At the start 01 is only open and ignition is done at the lower part of the device
To obtain gasification of the fuel and the formation of compact bottom ash, a high temperature is achieved either by active or forced draft, or preferably by using primary air previously heated in the combustion apparatus. - even, which does not harm
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
no performance since the calories removed are reintegrated, and this avoids the use of motive force
The coal which burns in front of 01 releases gases which will be used further after adding secondary air, on a stack for example, and forms masters which settle under the pressure of the coal seam,
this vein being fed by gravity from the hopper T With the clinker remaining in place, this first zone then becomes inactive, orifice 01 closes and orifice 02 opens in the manner which will be explained further on. will therefore be in front of 02.
The charcoal will continue to feed the hearth opposite 02, until 03 opens, zone 02 becoming inactive, and so on until the hearth is in 05 still fed by the hopper l 'the area then being covered with clinker on the entire lower part - at this point the clinker cake can be removed by opening door p and removing pins B, after having taken care to close threshold S 6. opposite 01 by replacing the pins B, we will close the door P, we will slowly open the register S, the coal will cover the area;
01 will be open, 05 will have closed and the operation will start again,
If we assume that the distance from 01 to 05 is 2 meters, the width of the device 1 meter and the coal layer 0m10, the clinker cake will have a volume of 0m3,2, that is to say at least 200 Kgs.
If the fuel gives 10% of residues, this makes a gross weight of 2,000 Kgs, representing 20 days of walking for a daily consumption of 100 Kgs
In this case the device is therefore fully automatic for periods of 20 days.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The automatic opening of the orifices is obtained by means of cispositives based on the fact that the temperature drops when the combustible material is replaced by clinker, and that the luminosity is greater in the ignited zone than in those not lit and those already covered with clinker
We can use the light phenomenon or the calorific phenomenon,
EMI4.1
By placing photocells in reou of suitable conduits, ,, (w1- * guard of the blow-off slots /, the current will ensure the opening of the valves of those of these slots situated in an area in ignition, while the slots dark or blackening will have their valves closed Although the position of the gas evacuation duct is such that the fire does not tend to rise, a fairly large hot zone forms around the insufflation rectangle which gains towards the slot upper, and it will be necessary that the spaces between the slits be chosen such that the light or heat action begins in good time @
Instead, suitable thermo-electric couples can be used acting on relays operating the valves,
or simply the expansion and withdrawal of any bodies. By employing an expansion device to control the valves and by introducing hot air instead of forced air, one will have a completely automatic apparatus, requiring only '' a good natural draft without the expenditure of electricity or motive power,
In another arrangement we could use a full inclined area on which would move within the coal and from the bottom to the top one or more nozzles for blowing forced air or heated air which creates-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
thus bitching the ignition zone moving from bottom to top leaving the clinker in place
These suitably spaced nozzles would move together, with or without automatic movement, continuous or reciprocating,
controlled by one of the processes indicated above
Primary air could be supplied to the nozzles by articulated arms and corresponding joints.
In all cases, the inclined area may be air or water cooled, or it may be made of refractory products. The entire apparatus may or may not be insulated to
It is easy to see that the apparatus according to the invention is above all called upon to render great services in its use together with central heating boilers for all residential buildings of a certain importance, by rendering the control of less painful heating and allowing the elimination of special permanent staff,
