<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
4 comporte deux pièces cylindriques 28,29 reliées par une tige 30 et présentant sur leurs faces en regard des garniture;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Au moment où l'on abandonne la gâchette 41, on fait cesser l'admission d'air dans le cylindre 4, qui est mis en relation avec l'atmosphère. Le ressort 11 rappelle le piston 8 et la tige 10; au cours de ce mouvement vers la droite, il se produit un vide dans la chambre gauche du cy- lindre L. D'autre part, de l'air comprimé a été envoyé dans le réservoir 3 lorsqu'on a pesé sur la gâchette 41;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

in automatically giving two different delivery pressures for the material to be delivered, one relatively low, the other relatively high, depending on the resistance which opposes the delivery.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus, consisting of a lubricating gun.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section.
Fig. 2 relates to its operation.
Fig. 3 shows a detail.
The apparatus shown comprises a body 1 of generally cylindrical shape and provided with a handle 2¯, enabling it to be gripped in the manner of a pistol, as well as a lateral reservoir 3 containing the lubricant to be delivered.
In the body 1 are formed two coaxial cylinders ± ± of different diameters; they are closed by funds 6.7, the first of which is screwed. The large-diameter cylinder 4 contains a piston 8 carrying a sealing sleeve% made of leather, for example, and secured to a rod 10 protruding from it on both sides; a return spring 11 constantly tends to apply the right end of the rod 10 against the bottom 6. Compressed air arriving through a flexible pipe 12, a channel ± of the handle 2 a control device 14, a channel 36 can be admitted into the right chamber of cylinder 4 for the delivery of the lubricant.
The rod 10 passes from the first cylinder, 4 into the second cylinder, 5, of small diameter through a stuffing box 15. It has in 2 .. a cylindrical head 16 on which a ring 17 can slide; the head and the ring form the piston of the second cylinder. In it is formed an elbow channel 18 starting laterally from the straight part of the head 16 and opening axially therefrom; the right opening of the channel 18 can be closed by the ring 17 In the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
bottom 2. is screwed a pipe 19 intended to bring by a flexible pipe 20 the lubricant to be delivered to the pipe and to the receptacle where it is desired to send it.
The body 1 has at the height of the cylinder 2.a projection 21 on which the lubricant reservoir 3 is removably attached by a bayonet device, which allows the rapid replacement and removal of this reservoir.
In the projection is housed an inlet valve 22 with a ball.
The reservoir 3 is divided by a piston 23 into two chambers 24, one of which contains the lubricant and into the other from which pressurized air is admitted to expel the lubricant into the cylinder 5. The chamber is connected by a pipe 26 to the top of the right chamber of cylinder 4; if the latter receives compressed air, it also receives it; in this pipe is interposed a check valve 27 with ball, preventing the air admitted into the chamber 24 from escaping through 26.
The control device 14 of compressed air to the cylinder
4 comprises two cylindrical parts 28, 29 connected by a rod 30 and having on their facing faces the linings;
31, 2 by which they are applied on seats 33
34. The part 28 moves in a closed chamber 35 where the channel 13 opens and is connected to the top of the cylinder 4 by the channel 36 starting from the passage 37 where the rod 30 is located, the part 29. in a chamber giving into the atmosphere. A spring, not shown, seeks to apply this part 28 to its seat 33; the communication is cut between the channel 13 and the cylinder 4 which is on the other hand brought into contact with the atmosphere.
If the assembly 28-29-30 is moved to the right using a trigger 41, the part 28 allows the compressed air from the channel II to go into the cylinder 4 without escaping thanks to the fact that room 29 cuts off all communication between 4 and the atmosphere.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The operation of the embodiment described is as follows:
When the device is not in use, part 28 of device 14 cuts off all communication between channel 13 and cylinder 4; the pistons 8, 16- ± are at the right end of their stroke; the ring is at the left end of its travel on the rod 10 and releases the right opening of the channel 18; a charge of lubricant, previously arriving from the chamber 24 of the reservoir, is in the cylinder .2 .. to the left of the piston 16-17.
If we want to push this load of lubricant into the pipe 20, we press on the trigger 21. and we put in the right chamber of the cylinder 4 compressed air which moves the piston 8 with the rod 10. The ring 17 first of all remains in place in cylinder 1 as a result of its friction on the wall thereof, then is driven by the right flange of head 16. Two cases may then occur: either the the pressure that must be overcome in the pipe 20 in order to discharge the load therein is relatively low, because this pipe is free; well this pressure is relatively high, because the said pipe is blocked.
In the first case the piston 8 moves rapidly to the left, the lubricant in the left chamber of the cylinder 1 does not leak between the wall of the latter and the ring 17, on the one hand, between the latter and head 16 on the other hand: All the lubricant charge to the left of piston 16-17 is expelled into pipe 20.
This flushing takes place moreover under a pressure per cm2 higher than the pressure of compressed air, since the area of piston 1.6-11 is much smaller than that of piston 8.
In the second case the piston can only move slowly to the left due to the great resistance which
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is opposed to it; lubricant passes outside and inside the ring 17 from left to right and fills the right chamber ± from which it cannot escape thanks to a crimped leather 46 and the pressure valve. retainer 22. The rod 10 and its head 16 then act as a plunger piston delivering a smaller volume than that of the piston 16-17; the force acting on the piston 8 being the same as in the first case, a higher pressure is obtained in the pipe which produces its outlet.
When the trigger 41 is abandoned, the admission of air into cylinder 4 is stopped, which is brought into contact with the atmosphere. The spring 11 recalls the piston 8 and the rod 10; during this movement to the right, a vacuum is produced in the left chamber of cylinder L. On the other hand, compressed air has been sent into the reservoir 3 when the trigger 41 has been pressed. ;
thanks to this pressure on the piston 23 and the vacuum of the cylinder 5, lubricant passes from the chamber 24 of the reservoir 1 into the valve 22 and the channel 18 which the ring IL does not block, because it remains during this movement at the left end of the head 16, the stuffing box 15 prevents atmospheric air from then passing from the cylinder 4 into the cylinder 1 along the rod 10.
It should also be noted that when the piston 8 moves from right to left, under the action of compressed air, a certain vacuum occurs in chamber 45, so that lubricant passes of the reservoir 1 in this chamber as soon as the ring! la releases the opening of this reservoir 3, When the piston 8 moves in the opposite direction, the lubricant thus admitted goes back into the left chamber via the channel 18, which ensures a more complete filling thereof.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As FIG. 1 shows, the ring 18 closes the opening of the reservoir 1 at rest, so that lubricant cannot then escape from the latter under the pressure of the compressed air remaining in the chamber 25 and leak. little by little through the tubing 19.
The apparatus according to the invention can be used for the delivery of other fluid or semi-fluid materials than a lubricant, for example that of the material used for braking in hydraulic brakes.
