<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SAVING FUEL IN EXPLOSION ENGINES. '
The invention relates to the supply of engines, in particular of internal combustion engines, and its object is a method and an apparatus suitable for making it possible to achieve a substantial economy of fuel in this supply.
To this end, in accordance with the invention, the negative pressure created by the engine or part of this repression is made to act on the combustible liquid intended for supplying the engine, so as to slow down the flow of fuel at low speeds and . - .-- especially during idling. of the invention, --- ¯ According to a preferred embodiment of the object /, the depression prevailing in the suction pipe beyond the intake butterfly valve, is communicated to the space above the fuel in the constant level vessel of the supply carburetor.,
In the accompanying drawing, there is shown, by way of example. ple, two embodiments.
Fig. 1, shows schematically, in section, vertical ,, the first embodiment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 2 shows, in a similar manner, the second embodiment.
Referring to fig. 1, the space 1 of the suction manifold situated beyond the intake butterfly valve 6 is placed in communication by the passage 5 with the space surmounting the fuel of the constant-level tank 2 of the carburetor, this space itself being in communication with the atmosphere through opening 3. '
Under these conditions, the variable depression produced by the engine in space 1 will be constantly transmitted to space 2.
This depression decreases when the intake butterfly valve 6 is open and according to the number of revolutions made by the engine; will reach high values, of the order of half an atomosphere, at low speeds and will, on the contrary, be reduced to low values, of the order of a few centimeters of mercury, if walking is accelerated.
The vacuum acting on the end of the normal running jet will vary in the opposite direction and will tend to equal the vacuum in the intake manifold as the intake throttle is opened and the engine accelerates. .
As a result, when the engine drives the vehicle or machine, the fuel level in the nozzle will become higher the more the intake throttle is open, thereby providing richer mixtures. , while when the engine acts as a brake, that is to say when the vehicle or machine drives the engine, the level in the nozzle will become very low, providing lean mixtures:
The values of the vacuum obtained in space 2 can be made larger or smaller by suitably calibrating the air inlet port 3 in this space.
The previous arrangement can be modified as shown in fig. 2, in which communication 5 is provided with a valve 4 influenced by a calibrated spring 7, a weight, or any other suitable adjustable means, so that this valve does not slip out.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
only when the depression in space 1 reaches a determined value.
As goes without saying, the arrangements described and shown are only examples, and modifications could be deviated from or made without departing from the limits of the invention.
