<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Improvement provided in the establishment of wool strippers.
The strippers, which are used to open mattress wools, are essentially constituted by an endless apron combined with two fluted cylinders forming grippers to grip and present the wool in front of the comb, the tip of which describes a closed curved path. These machines are not free from faults, in particular due to uneven feeding and the impossibility of working with short wools.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. It relates to an improvement made to these machines which is characterized by the substitution, for one of the grooved feed cylinders, of a rotary comb whose
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
teeth are tilted backwards against the direction of movement.
Figs, 1 and 2 of the accompanying schematic drawing show, by way of example, two embodiments of the improved machine according to the features of the present invention.
The machine comprises, in the ordinary manner, an endless apron 1 for feeding felted wools, a rotary mechanism 2 for presenting these fibers and a comb 3 whose tooth tips describe a closed curvilinear path. The rotary mechanism for presenting the fibers is more particularly the subject of the improvement, which is the subject of the present invention. It is characterized in that, for example, a cylindrical comb 4 which is also driven in rotation is replaced for the lower grooved cylinder; the teeth 5 of this comb being inclined so that the points follow the roots in the cylinder which carries them, in the direction of the circular movement which this comb receives.
The cylindrical surface traversed by the end of the teeth 5 of this rotary comb 5 intersects the cylindrical surface described by the tips of the teeth of the working comb 3.
Under these conditions, the wools brought by the endless apron 1 against the rotary comb 4 are removed by the teeth of the latter and engaged under the upper counter-cylinder 6, which loads the teeth 5. The wools suspended from these teeth 5 are then presented to the action of the working comb 3 which stretches, in rapid strokes, the fibers which pass more slowly in front of it.
It is obvious that one could receive the wools, at the exit of the first rotary comb, on another similar comb 7; the fibers suspended from the teeth of the latter being again worked by the stretching comb 3, it overloads,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to do this, that this second rotary comb 7 is mounted so that the cylindrical surface passing through the tips of the teeth is also intersecting that described by the teeth of the working comb 3.
One could also, as shown in fi.2, substitute for the upper fluted cylinder 6 a rotary comb 8, the teeth of which are inclined in the opposite direction to the teeth of the comb 4; axes of these cylinders being arranged so that their teeth can cross during the rotational movement. The material retaining force is thus increased when the comb 3 produces its disentangling and its stretching. This comb 8 can be crazy or controlled in rotation. Obviously, instead of spiked cylinders, one could use ratchet, sawtooth or other shaped cylinders provided that sharp asperities are formed to puncture the material to be treated.
