<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
La vapeur qui quitte les éléments 41, 44, 49 et 52 des parois latérales, chauffés par rayonnement, en traversant leurs collecteurs supérieurs respectifs, est accumulée et rassemblée par les raccords 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, de façon à entrer dans le tuyau 64 conduisant vers le collecteur in- férieur 56,dans lequel la vapeur mélangée pendant son pas- sage par le tuyau 64 et dans le collecteur 56 peut présenter, du fait de son mélange, un certain degré de surchauffe, même si le degré de surchauffe,'de la vapeur provenant des différents éléments était différent avant que ,.ces courants de vapeur aient été réunis ;

"Aquatubtular boiler".
The present invention relates to a steam generator without cylindrical bodies, of the single-pass type comprising several successive heat exchange elements which the fluid passes through one after the other from the inlet to the outlet without recirculation, during its transformation into steam at elevated temperature and pressure, to exit as superheated steam.
It has heretofore been difficult to achieve with boilers of this type suitably superheated steam, on the grounds that the location where the production of steam ceases and the superheating begins may vary, and because also, that the various elements of the boiler may present heat exchange characteristics.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mique disparate. It follows that the mixture of steam from the different elements may have an indeterminate, different or variable heat of superheat which may appreciably interfere with its use in turbines or the like, unless the heat of superheat is subjected mixing with a corrective or compensating overheating, in a determined location protected from excessive heating, which constitutes one of the aims of the present invention.
Areas in which the evaporation is complete must be protected from overheating, even if they change location during operation.
The arrangement of the various elements described above, by which the single-pass flow of the incoming cold water and the outgoing superheated steam is obtained, furthermore, in combination with the flow mode combustion gases from which the heat is taken, another characteristic of the present invention.
Yet another object of the invention is to use the heat exchange tubes to the greatest extent possible for constructing the walls of the hearth and thus to reduce the difficulties and costs involved in refractory constructions. as well as to reduce the storage of heat in the latter, so that the cnaudière can react quickly to load variations.
The boiler according to the invention, while lending itself very well to the highest pressures and temperatures required by modern energy production installations, is above all capable of providing very high yields, as required by the power stations. energy where we tend today to produce using a)

single boiler, all the steam intended to power a single large turbine.
In order to bring out these aims of the invention, and others as well, one of its embodiments will now be described by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the somewhat diagrammatic drawings attached hereto. On these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section following a plane passing from the front to the rear of the boiler,
Fig. 2 is a section taken along the line A-A of the. fig. 1.
The boiler according to the invention, shown in the drawings, comprises a hearth delimited by its sole 1, its ceiling 2 and its side walls 3, 6, and comprises a vertical partition 7 which does not rise up to the ceiling 2, so to leave a horizontal passage 8 for the flow of gases, which passage connects between them the two vertical passages 9, 10 allowing the flow, from top to bottom, and from bottom to top respectively, of the gases released from the zone of combustion in which fuel burners 11 are located. Since the rear wall 6 does not extend as far as the sole 1, there remains between them a horizontal passage 12 for the flow of gases, which opens into the passage 13, where an air heater 14 can be placed.
The combustion gases rise through this passage to exit at 15, while the air, entering at 16 and deflected by baffles 17, circulates from top to bottom in counter-current to the combustion gases, bypasses the guide fins 18, and exits at 19 after being heated to a temperature suitable for combustion.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The generator tubes are arranged in bundles in the order which will be described below, the water which enters the economizer element 20, as indicated at 21, being delivered there by a feed pump (not shown ).
The economizer 20 located at the cooler end of the vertical gas flow passage 10 comprises tubes of the coil type, indicated at 22, arranged parallel and vertically in series, opening on the one hand into the manifold 23 connected to the water inlet 21, and on the other hand in the upper manifold 24 communicating with a duct 25, opening into the upper manifold 26 of the screen 27 intended to intercept the slag and to protect the superheater.
As shown, the slag screen 27, also serving to protect the superheater from excessive heat radiation, is located in the gas passage 9 extending from bottom to top, and the water connection of the 'economizer 20 being connected to the upper collector 26 of this screen by the duct 25 as stated above, the water circulates in counter-current to the gases in the economizer and in the slag screen, as well as this will be explained. The slag screen comprises, like the economizer 20, a number of coil-type tubes arranged parallel and vertically in series, emerging from the upper manifold 26 and entering the lower manifold 28, from which a pipe 29 leads. water or the mixture of steam and water to element 30, heated by radiation.
Element 30, located in the radiant heated zone, comprises parallel tubes extending between the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
inlet manifold 31, connected to pipe 29 and outlet manifold 32, arranged very close to the ceiling 2 and overhanging the area located at the location of the gas return, or the horizontal passage 8 connecting passages 9, 10, which extend from bottom to top and top to bottom respectively. Steam and water from this radiant heated element or primary element 30 flow from manifold 32 to vertical manifold 33 of element 34, located at the rear wall, these manifolds 32, 33 being in position. communication as indicated in 35.
The rear tube wall comprises the inlet manifold 33 and the outlet manifold 33 ', connected to each other by parallel tubes constituting the element 34, these tubes being arranged, like the tubes 30, very close from the wall. The water, or the mixture of steam and water, leaves the outlet manifold 33 'through the pipe 35', which comprises at 37, 38, 39 and 40, for example, branches intended to supply the elements of the walls sides, radiant heated and arranged as will be explained below.
The side wall elements, heated by radiation, are four in number and comprise bundles of parallel tubes extending vertically, arranged very close to the corresponding walls of the fireplace. The element 41, located near the front wall 3, comprises lower 42 and upper 43 collectors, connected by the aforementioned tubes 41, the lower collector 42 receiving from the preceding elements water or a mixture of steam and of water, through the branch 37 of the pipe 35 ', by a branch of short length 40. The mixture of steam and water rises through the tubes 41 in the collector 43, while the water gradually descends.
Element 44 of the rear wall, @
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
arranged near the latter, comprises the lower 45 and upper 46 manifolds, communicating with each other through the tubes 44, this wall element being distinguished from the other in that its upper part passes through the horizontal passage 8 gases. It is therefore necessary to provide suitable means, allowing the combustion gases to pass through the screen of tubes that this element 44 constitutes and, for this purpose, the upper parts of these tubes are alternately bent or offset, at the location where they cross the horizontal passage 8 of the gases, as indicated at 47, 48, so that the combustion gases can flow between them without encountering too much resistance.
The element 44 is supplied with water or steam and water through the pipe 55 ', through the branch 38 opening into the lower manifold 45, the water and the steam circulating from bottom to top through the element attached to the wall and the quantity of water decreasing as the steam is released, as in the case of element 41. The other elements of the tube walls include the side elements 49, the tubes of which, bent laterally to allow the burners to pass 11 as shown, open out on the one hand into the lower manifold 50 and on the other hand into the upper manifold 51, the water or the mixture of steam and water entering the lower manifold 50 through the connection 39 .
The last remaining tube wall element is indicated at 52, its tubes opening into the upper 54 and lower 53 manifolds, respectively, and steam and water entering the latter through fitting 54 '.
It emerges from the above that all the elements of the side walls are formed of parallel tubes distributed
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in bundles, in the lower collectors from which water or a mixture of water and steam enters, and from the upper collectors from which the steam leaves thanks to the relative dimensions of the heating surfaces of the various elements, and to the importance of the hearth or the heat generated therein.
A convection superheater 55 located at the inlet of the downward gas passage 10, above the economizer 20, comprises lower 56 and upper 57 manifolds, connected to each other by vertical parallel tubes. of the serpentine type. This superheater is completely preserved from the radiant heat of the hearth by the screen 27, as well as by the tubes of the ceiling and of the side walls of the upper chamber, arranged above and in front of the superheater.
The steam which leaves the radiant heated side wall elements 41, 44, 49 and 52, passing through their respective upper collectors, is accumulated and collected by the fittings 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, so as to enter the pipe 64 leading to the lower manifold 56, where the mixed vapor during its passage through the pipe 64 and into the manifold 56 may exhibit, due to its mixing, some degree of overheating, although the degree of superheating of the steam from the different elements was different before these steam streams were combined;
In this convection superheater the accumulated steam receives a final temperature or superheat such that the steam leaving the convection superheater 55 through the discharge opening 65 has a determined superheat, which is that required by the turbine.
Although a specific embodiment of a steam generator without cylindrical body has been described above.

ques, it is understood that it is possible to modify the location of the boiler elements comprising the generating surface, either with respect to each other or with respect to the flow of gases, without departing from the scope of the invention.
