<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

DESCRIPTION MEMORY "Double bipolar motor for single-flow traction".
The present invention, Gaston Henacque system relates to a direct current motor made up of two contiguous bipolar motors arranged so as to produce a single main magnetic circuit of reduced length * The motor thus comprises two armatures and four poles, joined together two by two by two magnetic links of short length forming an open carcass.
The advantage of this arrangement lies in the saving of material used for closing the magnetic circuit, that is to say in a low casing weight and in the unity of the magnetic circuit.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This arrangement is mainly envisaged for electric traction, at high voltage and at high speed, the designation of the dynamo as a motor not excluding use as a generator.
@ In its simplest form, the motor comprises, as shown, by way of example, FIG. 1 of the appended drawing, four neighboring poles two by two A and B ', B and A', the poles A and A 'having the same polarity, different from that of poles B and B', the axes of symmetry of the two pole systems A and B on the one hand, A 'and B on the other being parallel. The armatures 0 and C 'corresponding to the two pole systems have their axes parallel.
Two magnetic links D and E connect the opposite names and close the single main magnetic circuit which passes through the poles and the armatures, the flux being produced by the coils aa, 'bb' with which these poles are fitted and which constitute magnetomotor forces acting in series, the sum of the magnetomotor forces produced by a and b must be equal to the sum of the magnetomotor forces produced by a 'and b'. A spacer F rennera the magnetic portions D and E of the circuit for the mechanical realization of the motor.
This spacer F subjected at its ends to two equal and opposite magnetomotive forces will not be traversed by any flux * Figure 1 shows that the proximity of poles A and B 'reduces by more than half the length of the flux path in the carcass compared to the single bipolar motor - This arrangement is the same as the motor without auxiliary poles.
Figure a shows the motor provided with two switching poles. The two blades which are of the same name G and G 'and fitted! two identical coils g and ± are available
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
sés on either side of the median wall F which, in this case, must have a sufficient section for the circuits of the auxiliary ples which respectively concern the upper half of the wall F, the other the lower half ,
FIG. 3 represents the same type of mo tower provided with four auxiliary poles. The carcass then comprises two side walls H and J which externally unite the main poles and on lesuelles are fixed the poles K and K '.
The section of the magnetic connection E can be reduced by the section attributed to the wall H. But the length of the wall H being greater than that of the wall E, on the one hand because of the right angle made by the carcass ,. on the other hand because of the height of the main pole required by the use of the reinforced flux which will be frequent in this type of motor, it follows that the induction in part H will always be less than that of part E.
This induction can also be reduced at will by increasing the reluctance of part H by the use of holes or slots forming an air gap (for example in the axis of the auxiliary pole), so as to prevent harmful saturation, for the circuits of the auxiliary poles K and K 'which run through them, either in the upper half or in the lower half depending on the direction of rotation of the motor.
The section of the wall H not being imposed, it can be reduced. the fair value necessary for the passage of the auxiliary flow. By reducing this section and increasing the réluotanoe by the use of the slots L, L 'in the axis of the auxiliary pole, we can oonsider that all the main flux passes through the magnetic portions E and F so that the motor retains its characteristic of a single magnetic circuit common to the two armatures.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
As the section of the H and J walls can be very small, it is possible to make recesses in these walls likely to reduce the leakage of the main masses and polar horns to the carcass * Figure 4 represents the wall added by recesses to reduce the leaks. leaks.
Field coils have series or shunt windings; the coils of the two bipolar systems will be identical and generally connected in series to achieve inequality of the magnetomotive forces.
The armatures, with bipolar windings are identical.
They are linked together and rotate at the same speed *
The equality of the flows crossing the two armatures, the speeds and the number of conductors leads to the constant equality of the electromotive forces of the two bi-polar systems - The two armatures can therefore, without inconvenience, be connected in parallel '* be connected in series. Figures 5 and 6 show the two arrangements.
The polarities of the brushes are those which give the same direction of rotation.
The motor of the type described can therefore undergo a change in the coupling of the armatures during operation, the transition taking place according to a suitable process.
In the case of compound excitation or series excitation, with reinforced flux, a very large number of different economic regimes will be available with a single motor of the type described (without the use of resistance). small number and the arrangement of the poles making it easy to use divided series coils.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
If the vehicle is equipped with two complete engines of the type described ;, the system may include the following combinations! a) series grouping of two armature motors in series (figure 7). b) series grouping of two armature motors in parallel (figure 8) o) parallel grouping of two armature motors in parallel (figure 9).
The latter combination will be avoided in the case of oompound engines.
Each group allowing by the variation of the flow a certain number of economic steps, one will have to ensure the running of the vehicle of a very large number of stable points of operation *
Transmission to the vehicle axle can be achieved by providing each motor armature with a suitable member respectively attacking the axle * Figure 10 shows an arrangement in which the two armatures are coupled together by means of two wheels. Net toothed of the same, diameter fixed on their respective shafts and attacking a third wheel 0 fixed on an axis parallel to that of the two armatures and placed symmetrically with respect to the axes of the latter.
FIG. 11 shows this additional axis P fixed on the one hand in a bearing Q belonging to the common flange R of the two elementary motors and on the other hand in a front bearing S housed in the gear case U. The extension of the P shaft will be used to transmit power !.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
If the engine is to be a suspension called by the nose and attack of the axle by gears, the carcass will comprise the suitable axle bearings and the toothed wheel of the axle will attack one of the wheels N and N 'of the armatures. It can be seen that the low value of the back center distance of the induced axle will allow the use of small diameter toothed wheels.
