<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Fige 1 montre en plan, une bande de métal de départ ;
Fige 2 montre en plan un flan découpé de la bande de la fige 1 ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ARTICLES INCLUDING EMBEDDED ELEMENTS, SUCH AS ROLLERS AND SIMILAR.
The invention relates to articles comprising or formed with the aid of stamped elements, such as rollers and the like and relates in particular to the making of such articles.
It is known for making rolling rollers or the like, from circular blanks cut from strips or from metal sheets, to shape these blanks by a stamping operation and then to join them by interlocking and crimping.
It is also known to constitute the internal interlocking element using a blank shaped like a three-branched star cut from a strip, but more advantageously from a sheet of metal and shaped by stamping before its. interlocking in an external element or cup necessarily obtained by stamping a circular blank.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the first of these manufacturing processes, not only does the de-cutting lead to a significant deohet of metal, but also, in any case, the strip or sheet from which the circular blanks are cut has different rates of elongation of the metal. in the directions in which the rolling has been carried out and the other directions, different rates that the industrial heat treatment normally applied prior to the use of these strips or sheets allows the internal interlocking element or leaf to remain , has, after stamping, corrugations or unevenness marked on the edge which must serve as a support in the element or external bowl, and which cannot remain under penalty of poor workmanship in the assembly.
It follows the obligation of an additional operation to rectify the edge of the element or internal opening.
In the second mode of production, the stamping which, in the preceding mode of manufacture may be simultaneous with the cutting of the blanks, must necessarily be the subject of a separate operation, the star blanks included in the sheet or strip. in various orientations to be properly placed in the press or other stamping machine; in addition, a certain clearance must be left in the plate which receives the star, so that in this case again the embossment formed may present some irregularity and must then undergo a correction.
The invention avoids these drawbacks., To this end it consists in constituting the element or internal bowl starting from a blank cut in such a shape that it can be stamped simultaneously with its cutting, and without it having after stamping of unevennesses or undulations of the edge of the parts forming the support of the element on the outer element or cup.
It also consists in constituting the blank
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
contour comprising straight portions and oirou- lar portions, the latter being oriented in directions for which the elongation of the metal is of uniform rate; these circular portions belong to a circumference of which -the center coincides with that of the portion xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx- xxx ciroulaire @ of the finished stamping.
In addition to the above-defined process, it includes blanks for making internal elements or openings of interlocking rollers, as well as rollers made using such blanks, and so that it can be well omitted. it will be described in more detail below, with the help of the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows in plan, a starting metal strip;
Fig 2 shows a plan of a blank cut from the strip of Fig 1;
Fig.3 is a side elevational view of the stamp, ti produced using the blank of FIG. 2; Fig. 4 shows a made-up pebble.
Referring to fig. 1, the starting strip 1, can come from rolling in this form or be cut from a pit of greater width, partially shown in broken lines and designated by 2.
In either case, the main direction of rolling is indicated by the arrow L, while in the case of sheet 8 in particular, the arrow T indicates the direction of cross-rolling.
The elongation of the metal has a maximum along arrow L for both strip 1 and sheet 2 and, for the latter, in addition, another maximum along arrow T.
It follows that if in a strip 1, or a sheet
8, a circular blank is cut out and this blank is subsequently subjected to a stamping operation, in particular deep drawing, to form a cup, extensions.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
more marked elements appearing in the L and T directions and the edge of the bowl cannot be regular. the star blanks with three branches, necessarily cut from a sheet 2 and following various orientations for reasons of metal economy, will be subject to varying degrees of influence from the maximum elongations and the stampings obtained cannot either be regular.
On the other hand, both in the case of band 1
EMI4.1
than in the case of tèûj3le Q, according to the direotion. inolate. at 45 on the L direction and on the L and T directions, the metal elongations are in any case equal.
According to the invention, the blanks to constitute the internal elements or cups are cut so that the bearing surfaces which will serve as a support for the interlocking are oriented normally in these directions of the same lengthening. the lines 3, 3 'indicate the blanks which will be cut out in this way, 4 designating the said bearing surfaces
At 5 and 6, following the direction L and perpendicular to this direction, the edges of the blank are reotilated, and as can be seen in Figures 3 and 4, the blank being stamped, these parts do not participate not to the support of the element or internal opening and cannot cause ir regularities in this last.
In addition, if we compare the line 3 of the blank according to the invention with the line 7 of the circular blank which should be used for the element or internal opening of a roller of the size considered, we notice the considerable saving of metal that the blank of the invention also makes it possible to achieve, this saving being able to reach 25% or more,
The blanks cut along the lines 3, 3 '...., are simultaneously stamped to give the internal elements or cups according to FIG. 3, which are then fitted into external elements or cups 8 (FIG. 4) formed by stamping circular blanks, the bearing surfaces 4 forming a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
regular support against the circular straight portion, 9, of these external elements or bars 8.
Once the interlocking has been achieved, the edge 10 of the external elements is folded back in the usual manner.
In this way, better conditioned and more economical track rollers are obtained than those hitherto produced by known methods.
It goes without saying that the blanks ready for stamping which have been shown of length equal to the width may have a length different from the width; It also goes without saying that the invention described in particular for obtaining track rollers also applies to the establishment of other articulated elements comprising similar or similar stamped elements.
