<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Il peut être prévu également, à la partie supérieure des grandes roues, des fermetures guidant celles-ci sans les toucher, munies ou non de galets latéraux et les empêchant de s'écarter de trop de la position verticale;

Process for improving the running qualities of all vehicles.
The present invention relates to a process for improving the rolling qualities of all vehicles, characterized by lowering the center of gravity and improving the rolling coefficient obtained by increasing the diameter of the wheel placed on the ground. . this effect the wheels of the vehicle are replaced by rollers or wheels of small diameter rolling inside a rigid or slightly elastic circle which rests on the ground, the weights being able to be distributed over one or more gakets per rolling circle .
The accompanying drawings show schematically, by way of nonlimiting examples, various embodiments of the invention.
FIG. I is a view of a carriage, the wheels of which have been replaced by the rollers forming the subject of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the same cart in which the weight on the rear axle has been divided into two axles each carrying rollers running in the same circle.
Figures 3, 4 and 5 give, by way of example

cuts of rollers and wheels.
FIG. 3 preferably represents the application to the driving wheel of a vehicle.
FIG. 4 represents a possible guidance mode and FIG. 5 the application to a car wheel traveling on a railway track. Until now, the rolling of vehicles by wheels acting directly on the ground required the creation of large diameter wheels to obtain a sufficient rolling coefficient, i.e. a relatively low tractive effort compared to the rolling weight,
The large diameter of the carrier wheels resulted in an increase in the center of gravity of the cars or required the use of expensive devices such as bent axles or others.
This rise in the center of gravity greatly reduced the vehicle's lifting qualities.
The present invention relates to improvements intended to remedy these drawbacks.
It consists of replacing the ordinary wheels of existing vehicles or of constructing new vehicles whose wheels are replaced by rollers or wheels of smaller diameter, with an external profile corresponding to the internal profile of a rigid or slightly elastic wheel. tall. diameter in which they roll.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the invention can be achieved by replacing the wheels of a carriage by rollers I and 2 each rolling in two large wheels 3 and 4.
The profile of the roller and the internal profile of the wheel are determined so as to create a guide by interlocking which prevents the separation of the wheel and the roller during the rolling course.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This gives the advantages of a large wheel on the ground, i.e. an excellent rolling coefficient and a low tractor force in relation to the weight transported, but at the same time a great lowering of the center of gravity and a better bearing surface on the ground all the more so as the large wheel can be fitted with a tire or inflated, the use of which is already known. for rolling vehicles.
Another arrangement is alternatively shown in Figure 2 where the weight of the carriage is on the rear axle; said axle has been replaced by two axles 5 and 6 each carrying a roller 7 and 8 both rolling inside a single large wheel 10.
In this way, the force is transferred to two axes and, if the wheel 10 is slightly elastic, it flattens in contact with the ground to create a bearing surface somewhat similar to that which is already known in cars. or tractors mounted on crawlers; this without in any way increasing the rolling force and on the contrary reducing it very significantly, which makes it possible, in particular in a car built for a determined load, to use a load almost double the load provided without increasing the tensile force so significantly.
This arrangement can be achieved by carrying the two rollers by a single piece oscillating on the axle.
The profile of the rollers is determined so that they cannot leave the large wheel inside which they roll and, we see in figure 3, an example in which the roller has a trapezoidal groove. rolling on a also trapezoidal boss carried by the large wheel so as to ensure at the same time as a support, a drive by transmission of movement.
This transmission makes it possible to wedge the roller II on a receiving shaft directly or via a differential - @

the movement of any motor. for an idle wheel, the connection can be provided as shown in Figure 4, by a groove carried by the roller in which circulates a rib carried by the outer wheel, 'this rib may be straight, curved, male or female.
FIG. 5 shows the particular case of application of the invention to the wheel of a vehicle traveling on a railway track.
For this purpose, the outer wheel consists of a circle carrying inside a raceway da.ns which is subject to rolling a roller fixed on the axle, the. car.
There may also be provided, at the upper part of the large wheels, closures guiding them without touching them, provided or not with side rollers and preventing them from deviating too far from the vertical position;
It goes without saying that the shapes, details, raw materials, arrangements and in particular the exterior profiles of the rollers and the interior of the wheels, may vary without departing from the scope of the present invention.
