PLAQUE D'IMMATRICULATION LIMINEUSE POUR AUTOMOBILES OU FUTURS
VEHICHLES
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

LIMINEUSE LICENSE PLATE FOR AUTOMOBILES OR FUTURE
VEHICHLES
The present patent relates to a luminous immatripulation plate for automobiles or other vehicles. The registration number is formed by cutouts in a sheet behind which there is a glass or other suitable material, for example red color The sheet bearing the sign number (s) or letters forms one of the large faces of a metal box in the form of parallelepiped inside which are arranged reflectors intended to return through the glass plate and the cutouts of the sheet the rays of the light source so that the figures,
signs or letters acquire strong visibility even at great distances.
The light source consists of one, two or more electric lamps which are lit by an electric or mechanical control which does not allow the driver of the vehicle
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to extinguish them from the apron of his car, that is to say that the lamps once on. du? apron of the car by the electrical or mechanical device without the devices does not cause the extinction of the light source consequently the disappearance of the immatruclation number, other than during a maneuver by hand carried out on the plate at, the place of its position.
It follows that after an accident, the driver must stop if he does not want the registration number to be read in order to come and perform a maneuver at the electric or mechanical device fitted on or in the light plate.This stopping time of the vehicle makes it possible to read the number of the latter before any attempt by the driver to prevent it.
The envisaged electrical device is placed on the small face of the top of the metal box and is protected by a cover which can be sealed and which carries a button to switch off the light source.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings relating to the subject of the invention will facilitate understanding of the descriptive memory below.
For this purpose the drawings represent:

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Referring to the figures above the metal box is represented by 1 the sheet metal plate bearing the cutouts forming the figures by 2, and by 3. the glass plate or other material resting on a rubber border or other 4 The above assembly is tightened by the nuts of the bolts 9- integral with an interior metal frame 5 This frame 5. carries slightly curved cut-outs 6. forming a reflector for the lamps 21 placed in the sockets such as 27. On the bottom of the box facing the lamps 21 are other reflectors 8. facing the reflectors 6, having a convex shape.
The wall of the box 1 opposite to the plate 2. carries the threaded ends 10 for its fixing. On one of the small faces of the box 1 is a hollow socket 11, for the introduction of electric wires. At 7 is shown a reflector extending over the entire length of the housing.
Perforations 54 are arranged in the top of the box 1 for the introduction of the tabs 21 with their bush 27 and the top is provided with a frame 55 forming a projection on which a cover 12 fits on the outside. held by the nuts: there. two threaded rods 13 fixed by their lower end to the upper face of the housing 1
The frame 55 comprises, at the appropriate places, tabs such as 28 under which the ends of the slightly curved cross members 29 forming a spring engage by rotation, and intended to secure the sockets 27, because the perforation 57 of the cross members 29 rests or preferably presses the sleeve 27 which rests by the periphery of its plate 56 beyond the perforation 54 of the housing I.
Thus, it suffices to make the cross member 29 perform a quarter of a turn to remove the socket with its lamp, the reverse to replace it.
On top of the box Ballast disposed in the frame 55., a push-button switch consisting of two insulating plates 22, joined by spacers 30 and 20 of which the latter is fixed on the top of the box 1 In the perforations of the plates 22 can slide a square rod 19 carrying a 'cross member
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
2 forming a short circuit on the bars fixed one by the bolts 24 the other by the bolts 25 see fig. 2 and 4.
On this rod 19 .. is disposed a pressure spring 26 maintaining the pontact established between the bars except when a push is exerted on a button 16 emerging outside the cover 12 This push button 16 is connected to an elastic blade 15 riveted to the inside of the cover 12 by means of a rubber ring 11 and an insulating piece .la ..
It follows that by pushing from the outside on the button 16, the latter attacks through 18 the rod 19 which, while moving, recovers the current established by the cross member 23 between the bars s fixed by the bolts 24 and 25.
On the middle of the box L, still in the frame 55, is placed a magnetizing coil 36, the magnetic field of which is closed by the outer armature 11, the core 50 and the movable armature 38 articulated on the axis 37 on which is wound. a spiral return spring, not shown. the movable armature 38 carries a rod 35, to which is fixed by nuts 41 a strip 40 intended to establish electrical contact between the square-shaped pads 43 and 42 fixed to an insulating plate respectively by the terminals 49 and 47 on the one hand and terminal 46 on the other
On the insulating plate between the pads 42 and 43 is fixed another terminal 53 to secure the current return wire when not using the ground return.
On the fixed armature 31 of the coil 36 are arranged four terminals 32,33,34,5: the first two being connected to, the ground and the terminal 34 constituting the return of the current when use is made of 6 Volts, while terminal 35 is for the return of the 12 volt supply current.
In box 1 there are two lamps such as 21 mounted on the sockets
Operation takes place as follows.
Referring to figures 1,2,3,4,5, and fig. 6 which
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
gives the electrical connection diagram operation is understood as follows:
We assume a motor vehicle carrying a 12-volt accumulator battery 51 see fig. 6, one of the poles of which is connected to the ground, the driver having a switch on the apron of the car 52 The light plate is fixed by the threaded rods HERE and thus joined to the mass.
A conductive wire connected the pole of the battery 51 to the terminal 4-Et while another conductive wire passing through the switch 52 ended at the terminal! Il. The set 42-44-46 forms a positive pole and the set 47-45-49-43 another positive pole. A connection connects terminal 49 to terminal
24 short circuited by the cross member 23 with the terminal 25 from which a conductor wire feeds the coil 36 formed of two coils whose ends are at 34 and 35
Terminal 34 is for the use of the current of 6 volts and the terminal '35 for the use of the current of 12 volts.
By a bar we will therefore connect, depending on the case 34 to 32 (mass) or 35 to 33 (mass (the latter case being the one envisaged.,
Another conductive wire leaves from terminal 25 to power the lamp 2L, while a conductive wire leaves from terminal 48 or 47 to supply the other lamp 21 The two lamps are connected to ground.
If the driver closes the switch 5.2. the circuit is closed by the lamps 21 and the mass see fig. 6, while the coil 36 traversed by the current closing by the mass 33. attracts the movable armature 38 which causes its rotation around the axis 37 and thus, forces the strip or crosspiece 40 to be applied by its ends on the faces of the studs 42 and! The studs 42 or 43 of the same polarity are united electrically and will remain so since the frame 38 is maintained by the current of coil 36.
The light plate is thus in working order.
If the driver for some reason wants to remove the brightness from his license plate by opening his
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
interrupt 52 this maneuver will have no result since thanks to the connection established by the strip 40 it is the direct conductive wire coming from the battery 51 and arriving at the terminal 46 which supplies both the lamps 21 and the coil 36 To remove the brightness, the driver must come and push on button 16 in order to move cross member 23 and thus cut off the current between terminals 24 and 25 which will cause the current in the magnetizing coil 36 to break, or to switch the l 'armature 38 consequently of the,
lamella 40 which, leaving the studs 42 and 43, will finally interrupt the flow of current to the 2T lamps, which will cause them to go out.
If we want to restore the brightness, we will proceed as at the beginning by closing the circuit 52 to the switch on the apron of the motor vehicle.
If two isolated circuits are used, as shown in the diagram in fig.7, everything will happen as previously described. If using 6 Volts, terminals 34 and 35 will be short-circuited to allow the return of current to the negative pole via terminal 35. and if 12 Volts are used, simply remove the connection between terminals 34 and 35 see fig. 7.
It is easily understood that it is impossible for a driver to be able to flee after an accident or driving offense occurring in the dark, the light being able to disappear only after the vehicle has stopped. The downtime of the latter materially gives time for those present or for the police to read the number.
The drawings show one embodiment of the invention, but it goes without saying that other details or construction methods can be used without departing from the framework of the scope of the object of the invention. invention.
Thus one could place a single lamp 21, or three s or more. Reflectors such as 6,7,8 could be given other shapes or any suitable material and dimensions.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The box 1 -, and, -, its, cover 12 may themselves be of any suitable shape and dimensions.
To avoid any fraud, you can install the electrical wedging in a steel tube or use a connection box that would eventually be sealed.
In order to prevent any fraud, it is possible to use a mechanical control, for example an immobilized lock which in this position would close the supply circuit of the lamps, for the lighting of the lamps of the luminous plate.
The movement of the lock is effected for example by the traction exerted by a “Bowden” cable maneuvered from the apron of the vehicle by a small lever, button or other equivalent mpyen.
To this end, figs. 8, 9 and 10 show a mechanical device placed inside the box 1 on one or the other of the walls so that the trigger button causing the breaking of the current power supply for the lamps is easily accessible from the outside.
Fig. 8 shows a sectional elevation through the mechanical device only with the lamp lighting circuit open.
Fig. 9 represents a similar section, the conductor having exerted a traction on the cable acting on the continuous displacement of the lock which caused the closing of the lighting circuit of the lamps of the luminous plate.
Fig.10 shows a plan view of Fig.8.
It is understood that this mechanical device serves to replace lesorganes 24,23,25 36,38,40 - 42,44,46 - 43,45,47,49. of fig. 2,3,4,5.
In the mechanical device of FIGS. 8.9.10, a box has been shown formed by the walls 59.66.61.82 independent of the box 1, formed by parts of the walls of the box 1 itself or of its cover 12 ..
This box in fig. 8,9,10 comprises for example an intermediate wall 60 provided with an opening 74
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
A terminal 62 is attached to this wall 60, whether insulated or not (in the case of return to ground), or the return wire 79 to the battery can be connected in the event of no return to ground. On this terminal is disposed an elastic conductive strip 64 capable of coming into contact with the positive pad 63 which ends with the lead wire 80 of the positive current.
On the side wall 66 is fixed a spring 65 whose other end is attached at 67 to a latch 70 biased by a leaf spring 69 fixed to the upper wall 61 of the box. This lock 70 ends on the one hand with a square rod 71 sliding in a slot in the wall 61 and ending in an operating button 72 on the other hand with a hook 73 capable of engaging against the edge 75 of 1'ouverture 74 and to be immobilized there while pressing at its end on the strip 64 to close the circuit between 80 and 79 or between 80 and ground.
A small plate 81 slides with the rod to prevent the introduction of foreign bodies into the mechanism.
The rod 71 of the lock is connected to a tractor cable, ion 77 housed in a so-called "BOWDPN" cable control 78 leading to the apron of the car within reach of the driver.
The operation is as follows. If the driver wants to light his light plate, he will exert a traction on the cable 77 by the device at its part. This traction, see fig.9, will have the effect of tensioning the spring 65 and when the lower end 73 of the latch 70 has arrived in front of the opening 74, the spring 63 will act. to tilt the lock 70 closes the bottom and thus close the contact. By this maneuver, the face 86 of the end 73 has caught on the edge 75 of the wall 60 and the lock remains immobilized, consequently the established electrical contact becomes permanent and due to the fact the lamps such as 21 remain on. .
If the driver moves to extend the lamps he must leave his seat and come by hand to lift the latch 70 by its button 72 and once removed, let it come back under the tension of the spring 65 - to

finally occupy the position of fig.8 By this maneuver the contact between 64 and 63 was broken and consequently the rupture of the current supplying the lanpes. If you want to switch on the lamps, you operate from the apron of the car as previously described.
The drawings of FIGS. 8, 9 and 10 are given by way of explanation and without limitation of one embodiment of the mechanical device.
It is easy to imagine, based on the above discussion, immobilized stop switches operating in a rotary manner or in any other aspect and constructive modalities.
The device of fig. 8.9.10 the analogue or the equivalent will be housed, for example, between the lamps 21 or on the side or on the face opposite the license plate, leaving the operating button 72 on the outside, fulfilling the same role. than button 16 in fig. 2.
Rn summary it should be understood as coming within the scope of the invention a luminous license plate for vehicles constituted by a box with light source and reflectors illuminating by transparency of one or more glasses of appropriate colors, the figures, letters or signs or their combinations. cut from the plate proper and provided with an electrical or mechanical device such that the extinction of the light source can only be obtained by the presence at the location of the woolly plate of the conductor or any other person. accompanying or not, by acting on a maneuvering member arranged outside the plate and causing by direct or indirect way electrically or mechanically the opening of the supply circuit. of the light source.
