<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

res à éliminer (schistes par exemple s'il s'agit du charbon);

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
La table à air 5 a partout* la même largeur;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

La proporbion total,;
La couche de cha/rbon épurée 'à la suite de ces prélè- vements successifs de schiste est déversée en bout de la table 5 au moyen d'un ou de plusieurs couteaux 29, réglables en hau- teur;

"Apparatus for the pneumatic separation of materials composed of elements of different densities"
A very large number of devices are already known for the pneumatic separation of materials composed of elements of different densities, such as coal.
These devices generally comprise a perforated shaking table comprising one or more compartments which receive the material to be treated crossed by an ascending air current. Under the action of the shaking, the material advances on the table in a regular layer which , under the action of the air current, takes a state of division such that the densest particles can descend through the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
layer and come together on the perforated sheet of the table.
It will be understood that the layer of manners must necessarily offer a certain resistance to the passage of air for the latter to be properly used, otherwise there will be abundant projection of dust above the layer and the most fine particles. dense particles will rise at the same time as larger particles of lower density.
In certain types of existing apparatus., The purified charcoal is taken all along the single compartment or at the end of each of the compartments constituting the table and in order to keep the layer of material a suitable thickness, the table is given a progressively decreasing width or else its width is reduced at each of these points where the removal of the coal takes place,
the various sections of decreasing width of the table then being connected to each other by inclined corridors of trapezoidal shape which oblige the layer of material in movement to decrease in width and increase in thickness,
It is obvious that such a transformation of the layer of matter cannot be done without the effects of friction and cusp of the particles, which destroy the classification by density made in the previous section of the table.
In addition ;, these connecting corridors which are of ;, low slope and therefore very long in order to obtain a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
as regular as possible sliding of the material, unnecessarily increases the length of the shaking table
This apparatus in which the purified coal is taken from different points along their length and the shales at the end only, would be difficult to deal with in the case where one wanted to treat the shales obtained in a first purification of a difficult coal to purify, shales which then still contain intermediate products which can be recovered. In this operation which, following.
the nature of the treated coal will be as necessary as in water purification installations, in fact only 20% should be taken by example of intermediates and 80% of shale removed, that is to say the 'in verso of what we have done in the first treatment of the raw coal having produced these schists, and, in this case, the reductions in width of the successive compartments of the table will no longer correspond to the work to be done
In certain existing devices, pulsations of the layer of material are caused either by making the discharge of air intermittent, or by suspending or resting the table on flexible blades more or less inclined, which forces the coal to advance by pronounced jumps.
These arrangements have the disadvantage that when the pulsations give the material an upward movement, the layer is divided at its maximum, its resistance to the passage of air decreases, this-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This then passes through it with greater speed, which causes a significant release of dust and also has the drawback of bringing up the fine dense particles which it was precisely a question of concentrating in the lower part of the layer.
Finally, it is often sought in these devices to treat materials comprising particles of all sizes, which considerably impairs their good separation by den-, Summer and increases encote the amount of dust. To prevent these from spreading to the outside, the devices used are generally then surmounted by fixed hoods placed under negative pressure - by means of independent fans which return the dust-laden air in cyclones or in filters where the The air is purified before being discharged into the atmosphere. Installations of this kind are expensive, cumbersome and seldom give complete satisfaction.
It has been sought, in accordance with the present invention, to avoid these various drawbacks.
The apparatus which is the object of this invention is constituted for this purpose by a shaking table, made of perforated sheet for example, of uniform width from one end to the other, resting on a single fixed air box. which serves as a frame for the apparatus, and sectioned transversely, from distance to distance, by kinds of narrow corridors, forming as many tanks at full level with the evacuation section. adjustable through which the continuous evacuation of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
res to be eliminated (shale for example in the case of coal);
the evacuation of the purified material (coal for example) being done only at the end of the table
The shaking table or air table is preceded by a shaking screening table made up of two or more perforated sheets or metal sheets superimposed, and which serves on the one hand to separate the material treated from the undersized particles. and dust, on the other hand to divide it already into a certain number of layers according to the size of these particles, in order to allow it to arrive already on the air table in a certain state of stratification.
The air delivered continuously under the low air flow preferably circulates in a closed circuit with continuous separation of dust by any known means.
The shaking table is preferably mounted on the thundering fixed air box constructed by means of ball bearings and dampers intended to suppress shocks and vibrations.
In the accompanying drawing is shown, by way of non-limiting example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
In this drawing fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal section and elevation of the apparatus; fig. 2 is a plan view, the hoods removed
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-B of 'FIG. 1; fig. 4 shows two half-sections along lines C-D and E-F of fig. l.
: The raw coal, previously screened preferably in various categories which have been stored separately to be treated on distinets separators, arrives through a hopper 1, with rotary distributor 2, on a first inclined table 3, formed of two or more sheets perforated or superimposed metal cloths, with different perforations, the sheets having the smallest perforations being below, On this table 3 (animated, as we will see later, with longitudinal alternative movements), a new screening takes place allowing,
to remove the downgrades resulting from the imperfection of the preliminary screening together with all the dust due to the breaking of the particles during the handling and the storage of the various categories.
These downgrades and this dust after having passed through the perforated sheets of the table 3, are evacuated through the duct 4, and can return to the first screening devices which return them to the corresponding categories.
On each of the perforated sheets of table 5 remain particles of different sizes of material, the larger particles being on the upper sheet and the smaller particles on the lower sheet.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The carbon is therefore in reality perfectly calibrated in two or more distinct layers which come to the end of the table 3 to be superimposed, without modifying their stratification, on the air table 5 which follows the table 3 and which is animated, like her, of reciprocating movements; longitudinal, as we will see later
The air table 5 has the same width everywhere *;
it consists of a: perforated sheet slightly inclined to the horizontal, and divided along its length into several compartments separated from each other by transverse corridors 6, of small width, forming reservoirs, and whose section entry can be modified at will, depending on the coals treated, by a movable plate 7, In certain cases, a movable vertical plate 7 ', adjustable in height, is provided downstream of the said transverse corridors to facilitate the passage slate through these corridors. These transverse corridors 6 are provided with side escape hatches 8, the outlet section of which can be adjusted using a mobile register 9
The air table 5 rests on a fixed air box 10 which forms a frame,
by means of ball bearings11 which may optionally be adjustable in height so as to allow the inclination of the table to be varied; the air box 8 is open at its upper part and elastic seals 12 connect the table 5 to the edges of the box 10, on
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
all around the latter and at the apomb of transverse couloirs 6 so as to allow the back and forth movements of the table on the box, held by ensuring the hermetic connection of these two members.
Air is delivered continuously into the box 10 by a fan 13, preferably placed under the screening compartment 5 so as to have the minimum bulk. This fan sucks on a collector pipe 14 to which the pipes 15 are connected leading to fixed hoods 16 arranged above the screening table 3 and the various sections of the air table 5; the coal dust, entrained with the air sucked in by the fan, is separated in the latter (of the turbo-sensor type for example) and is deposited in a cyclone 17 from which the air is evacuated through the duct 18 e passes back into the fan which pushes it back into the box 10.
From there, the air is forced under the perforated plate of the table and through the mass of layered coal which covers the latter. The admission of the air discharged under this table can be adjusted by any suitable means, for example by placing at a certain distance under this table two superimposed perforated sheets 19, one fixed and the other mobile and sliding on the first so as to discover more or less the air passage holes.
Registers can be placed on the various
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
air ducts so that the system can be adjusted.
As can be seen, the air required for purification therefore circulates in a closed circuit, which provides the advantage of eliminating the installation of dust collection, which is always expensive and bulky.
A propeller 20 placed under the air box 10 serves to continuously evacuate through a pipe 21 the dust which could settle there during operation.
The assembly formed by the screening table 3 and by the air table 5 is driven by longitudinal reciprocating movements thanks to the action of one or two connecting rods 22, with variable eccentricity, controlled by a shaft 23, connected by pulleys 24 and belt 25 to the shaft 26 of the fan itself driven by a belt 27. Shock absorbers 28, of any known type (pneumatic shock absorbers, springs, elastic or other) are interposed between the tables and the box 10 forming a frame in order to suppress shocks and vibrations The operation of the apparatus is easy to understand:
the charcoal, distributed as we saw above, on table 3, where it is able to screen and where it is divided into distinct layers according to the size of its particles, passes, under the effect of the slow movement of routing which is imprinted on it from left to right by the back and forth movement of the tables and by their inclination, from table 3 to table
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
5 where it thus arrives already stratified, its coarsest particles above, the finest below.
It continues to descend slowly and regularly along the different sections of table 5, without the stratification established from the start being disturbed, since this table maintains its same width everywhere and does not include successive narrowing as in d 'other devices.
As it advances on the table 5, the layer of layered carbon is crossed by the flow of forced air which, keeping the solid particles in a certain state of suspension and divine! of mass, allows the stratification to complement each other evenly and the small dense particles to collect at the bottom, while the larger, less dense particles remain at the top.
The shale particles will thus be localized at the bottom of the layer, and the sampling of these schists will be made directly above each of the transverse corridors 6 which care is taken to keep constantly full by adjusting the con - venement the registers 9. There will therefore be no sagging effect of the moving layer on the table, and the stratification will not be disturbed by these shale samples.
The transverse corridors 6, with their two adjustable hatches 8 of which only one can operate, can ensure the evacuation of very variable quantities of shale, so that the same table could also be used yesterday. treatment of char-
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
good little shale than little carbon shale
The total proporbion ,;
of shale contained in the coal being generally 15 to 25%, if there are for example four shale sampling points, therefore only 4 to 6% of 7 will be removed from each of these four points. ¯ total layer thickness
This thickness is therefore little reduced from one end of the table 5 to the other, which makes it possible to keep the latter the same width everywhere, the air intake being adjusted accordingly.
The layer of cha / rbon purified 'following these successive samples of shale is discharged at the end of the table 5 by means of one or more knives 29, adjustable in height;
it can thus be divided into two or more layers with different centroid contents, the first quality coal leaving the extract of the table, then a little behind, the second quality coal, finally in the shales or inter- final mediators to be retired
As we can see, the purified carbon is only taken from a single point of the device, which makes it possible to reduce the number of falls and therefore breakage to a minimum; more control of the rate is easier and the transport devices are simplified.
Thanks to the arrangement of the screening table 3 preceding the air table 5 and ensuring the pre-layering.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
In addition to coal, it is possible with this device to treat coals whose shales to be removed have densities not very different from those of coal.
From the start of table 5, a stronger air pressure can be used and thus activate the separation of the more dense elements which can be eliminated after the shortest path of the coal on the table.
Finally, we will see the projection to the outside of the dust remaining in the carbon decrease, because, before being evacuated with air, it will have to pass through everything ;; the thickness of the layer,
In the case of the treatment of wet coal, it is possible to arrange at 31, on the duct 4, a blown air intake for -. r allow the cleaning of the fine mesh wire mesh used to constitute the lower level of the. table 3; for this cleaning, we will stop the arrival of raw coal through hopper 1 for a while.
