<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
1
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

'. Process for the manufacture of rubber articles -------- of superior quality *
In patent NO.363,385 of August 30, 1929, a process for improving
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the quality of synthetic rubber, a process based on the vulcanization of artificial rubber in the presence of finely distributed carbon.
It has now been found that finely divided carbon (carbon black) also produces a noticeable improvement in quality in the case of mixed rubbers which are composed of natural rubbers and artificial rubbers. Similar mixed rubbers which are composed of natural rubbers and artificial rubbers.
Similar mixed rubbers can be obtained by the most diverse processes by polymerizing diolefins or mixtures thereof, for example from butadiene, isoprene, dimethylbutadiene, etc., in the presence of natural rubbers in the presence of natural rubbers. solid form or in the form of latex, or by mechanical mixing of natural rubber and synthetic rubbers which may themselves optionally be mixed rubbers, for example by means of rollers or in kneaders or otherwise. From all of these mixed rubbers, by blending with finely divided carbon and subsequent vulcanization, valuable rubber articles are obtained which are in many ways superior to unblended rubbers.
Carbon black vulcanizates made from these mixed rubbers are suitable

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
particularly for the manufacture of high quality articles, for example vehicle tires, hoses, conveyor belts, conveyor belts, gaskets, surface coatings, etc. The mixing of synthetic rubbers with natural rubber also has the important advantage, from an industrial point of view, that the processing of these mixed rubbers is considerably facilitated compared to unmixed synthetic rubbers, by the presence of the highly natural rubber. plastic.
Example 1: -
Butadiene rubber obtained by polymerization of butadiene in the presence of natural rubber and containing 50% natural rubber is treated by rollers with 3% sulfur, 15% zinc oxide, 2% tar, 2% diacid stearic, 50% carbon black and 1% diphenylguanidine and is suitably vulcanized at 2.5-3 atm. High-value, highly elastic vulcanises are obtained which have a tear strength of 220-250 kg per square centimeter) with an elongation of 700 - 750% and an elasticity of 48 - 50%.
Example 2 .--
65 parts by weight of a sodium butadiene rubber obtained by polymerizing butadiene in

by means of the alkali metal, are mixed by means of cylinders in a suitable manner with 35 parts by weight of natural rubber and the mixed rubber obtained in this way is vulcanized, for example according to Example 1, by means of 60% gas black. High-value vulcanibats are obtained with remarkable properties.
Similar good results are obtained when the rubbers obtained by other processes from butadiene, isoprene, dimethylgutadiene, etc. are treated in the indicated or analogous manner with natural rubber.
The mixing conditions, mentioned in the examples indicated, between synthetic rubbers on the one hand and natural rubber on the other hand, as well as the amounts of carbon black used vary within wide limits. In addition to carbon black, it is also possible to use all the usual fillers not mentioned in the above examples, and of an inorganic or organic nature, plasticizing agents, vulcanization accelerators, coloring materials, etc. .

The casing is vulcanized by heating at 140; it has excellent solidity.
Example 4:
A solution is prepared of a mixture of 100 parts of a polymerization product obtained by the action of sodium on butadiene in the presence of solvents, 100 parts of rubber, 80 parts of oil black, 4 parts of soft resin, made according to UK patent 323 322, 6 parts zinc oxide, 2 parts aging protection agent, 5 parts

5 parts of balm produced according to the data of British patent 328 190, 2 parts of sulfur, 1 part of an aging agent and 2 parts of diphenylguanidine are subjected together to the action of a calender with bands of canvas. Treads of great strength and high friction resistance are thus obtained.
Example 6: 70 parts of a rubber-like product obtainable by the polymerization of equal parts of butadiene are laminated on the cylinder with 30 parts of natural rubber and with the additions given in Example 1 and the mixture is vulcanized in the usual way.
Example 7:
39 parts of a rubber-like product obtainable by polymerizing 2 - 3 dimethylbutadiene emulsified with water and an emulsifying agent are laminated on the cylinder with 39 parts natural rubber, 3.15 parts of / /sulfur.9.4 parts of zinc oxide, 1 part of tar, 1 part of stearic acid, 50 parts of gas black and 1 part of diphenylguanidine.
