la douille d.'at.justement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ces valeurs nont pu être jusqu'.ici envisagées: pour des; causes imputables! aux conditions de construction. Les valeurs, minimum des diamètres; et des hauteurs des. fusibles pourront être réalisées:, suivant l'invention, grâce à plusieurs, canaux pratiqués! dans le corps: du support, renfermant chacun un fil fusible de grosseur unique;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
L'idée de l'invention diffère essentiellement de ces deux systèmes; au point de vue de leur but et de leur conception* Suivant l'invention, le brin renfermé dans chaque canal ne correspond qu'à une partie seulement de l'ampérage total, qui est égal à cet ampérage divisé par le nombre des canaux* D'autre part, la disposition des canaux renfermant le brin, particulièrement oompliquée, est remplacée par des canaux obturés dans le corps du support qui, en même temps, jouent le rôle dechambras d'expansion. 'La forme particulière du support, suivant l'invention, possède l'avantage de pouvoir être réduite en ses dimensions quand elle ne comporta qu'un seul canal qui doit être;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Improvements to fuse s.
In order to avoid the interchangeability of fuses, it has hitherto been necessary in safety devices to make contact between an adjustment screw and the part carrying the fuses.
This arrangement had three points of contact and
EMI1.1
had 1,! Inconvenient, especially in case of poor manufacturing, to allow only insufficient contact between the parts ..
EMI1.2
The interohangeability of the adjusting screw was avoided by drilling holes, of suitable diameters, diameters: corresponding, to the different amperages and intended to receive
EMI1.3
the adjusting sleeve. The inter-changeability of the fuses has also been avoided by giving them different diameters or heights * corresponding to different amperages! *
EMI1.4
This last arrangement is also for three. contacts, which gave rise to harmful resistances to the flow of current. Accordingly, a two-contact safety device has been envisioned, such that the fuse directly contacts a screw.
EMI1.5
Interohangeability has been avoided by giving different diameters! to the fuses. Because of the different diameters! of the fuse, the top and bottom contact caps: of this fuse were different for each amperage, which had the consequence of making their cost price higher
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in serial production.
In all the constructions carried out up to now, it has been necessary to switch from the small diameters of the fuses to the larger ones:, if we used small; amperages; at higher amperages, or to also switch from; small heights of the fuse to larger ones, if one went from small amperages to more reduced amperages.
With the change in diameters corresponding to the different amperages, a corresponding variation in the diameters of the upper and lower contact caps was necessary.
, + object of the present invention is to establish a fixing device comprising only two contacts, or the fuse comes into direct contact with the contact blade.
According to 1, 'idea of 1,' invention, the 'fuse is of the same type, the upper and lower contact caps are the same, the diameter and height of. fuse are. same order of magnitude. This size is minimum and conforms to what the highest type amperage allows.
The socket has a contact screw or else a contact socket connected to the contact blade which receives the fuse holder. The diameter of the fuse supported by the contact screw or the corresponding socket, the length of which is always the same, may be larger or smaller, depending on the amperage.
According to what we have just exposed, the smallest; values of the diameters and heights of the fuse will have established! According to the regulations.
These values could not be considered so far: for; attributable causes! to construction conditions. The values, minimum diameters; and heights of. fuses can be made: according to the invention, thanks to several, channels made! in the body: of the support, each containing a fusible wire of a single size;
we know, in fact, in multiple safety devices, how to place films
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
fuses in separate channels: of the support, each channel containing a wire of determined diameter corresponding to. a known number of amperes, which corresponds to that of the whole amperage. These fila are each switched on separately by turning the cover of the device.
It is also known how to divide the fusible wire into several strands and to place each strand in a separate channel made in the body of the support. This embodiment depends on the use of the apparatus and aims to provide spaces between the channels enclosing the wires, these spaces serving to receive the expanding gases produced by the combustion of the wire.
The idea of the invention differs essentially from these two systems; from the point of view of their purpose and their design * According to the invention, the strand enclosed in each channel corresponds to only a part of the total amperage, which is equal to this amperage divided by the number of channels * On the other hand, the arrangement of the channels enclosing the strand, particularly oomplicated, is replaced by closed channels in the body of the support which, at the same time, play the role of expansion chamber. 'The particular form of the support, according to the invention, has the advantage of being able to be reduced in its dimensions when it only included a single channel which must be;
, in this case, provided large enough to prevent the expansion of the socket, which may be caused by the expansion of gases from the combustion of the fusible wire. By dividing the single channel, one obtains a rational form, and better of the walls, so that with more reduced thicknesses of these walls; and less material between the channels, sufficient safety conditions are obtained.
According to the invention, the ends of the body of the support have grooves in which the caps are driven !; in this way, the interposition of a seal entre'la oalotte and the body of the support is avoided.
By pushing in the cap serving as an auxiliary contact, we have.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
provided for fixing the fuse wire, which consists in bending it outwards at the ends of the body, of the support. The wire is thus held by the depression of the cap.
For amperagas. higher, fuse wire will be welded to the cap * According to the invention, the bottom cap. will be driven in with the interposition of an asbestos washer, so that it is held securely by friction.
Interchangeability will be avoided, according to the invention, by the differences in heights: of the body, of the fuse, but the height of which in the socket remains the same. The contact between the fuse and the contact blade can be made either by a bottom contact, or by a conical contact.
In the latter case, a spring will be interposed between the contact sleeve and the fuse support * This spring will carry at its upper part a piece of insulating material. its purpose will be to break the contact between the fuse holder and the contact socket. The upper fuse contact: can also be provided to be able to serve as the lower contact, which is a cone contact. The fuse can then be provided, at its two ends :, with conical contacts ;.
The following description, with reference to the accompanying drawings, shows, by way of example, how the invention can be carried out.
Fig. 1 is a schematic section with bottom contact, while fig. 2 shows a conical contact.
Fig.3 shows a section of a cartridge.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of a cartridge with several channels. ..¯
Fig. 5 shows the contact sleeve in section.
FIGS. 6 and 7 are detail views, in section, of devices' execution of the alarm.
The support 1 of the fuse receives, at its lower and upper parts, caps, contact 3 and 5 and is engaged in a socket 4 which is provided with a space whose useful height is proportioned to the different amperages.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In mode (The execution, in fig.l, with contact on the bottom, the contact screw 5 is screwed into the sleeve 4 and this screw touches the cap 3 by its head 6. The screw 5 is extended by a small threaded part 7 which is screwed into the contact blade 8 and the extension of which is housed in a cavity of the element 9.
This embodiment of the invention is advantageous for a bottom contact, but it may have insufficient contact point, as mentioned above, resulting from insufficient precision.
A more advantageous embodiment of the invention is obtained by the arrangement of conical contacts, in which the fuse holder is provided with an upper cap 8 and a lower cap 3. Only the bottom cap: 3 can be used. provided with a conical contact or, on the contrary, the caps 2 and 5 could both be provided with contacts. conical :. The head of the fuse holder is susceptible! to have, different heights, according to the different amperages, these different heights: corresponding to those of the interior space of the socket 4.
In the illustrated case, the socket 4 is provided, at its lower part, with a conical cavity, on which is applied the contact socket 10, which will have a length corresponding to the dimensions of the fuse support for a certain current intensity, so as not to interfere with the contact of the parts. In this way, the contact sleeve 10 of fig.2 'replaces the screw 5 of fig.1, which will be set at such a height that it corresponds to the. length of the fuse support, length in relation to amperages :, thus the contact between the fuse and the contact blade is made.
The contact sleeve 10 has, however, the same length for all amperages of the same order of magnitude: it is connected to the contact blade 8 by means of a fixing via il, the threaded part 12 of which engages in a corresponding threaded hole of the blade 8.
Following the mode of. ', Execution of fig. 2, in order to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
abruptly break the current when loosening the cover. threaded, there is placed in the socket. 10) a spring 15 which carries at its upper part an insulating part which rests against the lower part of the fuse support- 1.
For all amperages of the same order of magnitude, the upper 2 and lower S contact caps are the same, so that they can be manufactured with a single tool. The fuse holder 1 itself has the diameter and height as low as possible. for all: amperages of the same order of magnitude, following for example., imposed regulations.
So far, the realization of these dimensions; minimum noted not possible because of the principles 'applied' for the construction, realization of which the application has become possible thanks to the invention.
The fuse holder 1 has a certain number of longitudinal channels 15, of any section, plus a special channel along its axis. The fusible wire is divided into a number of strands 17 corresponding to the channels 15, each of which has one or more strands.
The fact of placing the main wire 18 in a special conduit 16 completes the advantage of the invention, in that this wire will be protected from the heat given off by each strand 17, which will prevent it from melting too early. According to this: principle, it is possible to establish devices! alarms, uniforms; for all amperage wires by using main wires of equal section for different currents *
The ends 19 of the fuse wires will be folded back, towards. outside and will be retained by an auxiliary contact 20.
The cylindrical cap forming this auxiliary contact 20 is strongly pressed into the support 1 of the fuse and is held by the insertion of the edges of this cap in a groove 21 made in the support of the fuse 1, in this way the removal of the cap 20 will be impossible and a seal will not
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
After the cap 20 has been driven in, the ends 19 of the fuse wires are welded; at the cap 20.
The caps 20 may be provided, at their upper part, with openings 22 corresponding to the channels 15. Above the caps 20 of the upper part of the fuse, the upper cap 2 provided with a central groove is driven in. , while a bottom contact cap S will be. pressed at the bottom, so both will be held by friction. The spaces between the cap 20 and the contact caps 2 and 3 will be filled. of asbestos and the empty space between the walls and the strands 17, in the channels 15, is filled with sand.
The two caps 20, on the one hand, and the caps 2 and 3, on the other hand, are of different height, so as to leave a free space between them, which will be filled with asbestos. These asbestos pads 23 prevent the passage of flames in the event of fusion of the wire 17, which could have damaged any metallic part of the two caps. These asbestos pads are immediately placed on the openings, channels 15, so that these are fully closed.
The non-interchangeability of the fuse holder 1 can be obtained by giving it different heights, while the contact between the contact blade 8 and the fuse holder 1 can be achieved by using. bottom contacts (fig.l) and conical contacts (fig.2).
In the drawings, which have been appended by way of examples, to show an embodiment of the invention, the contact sleeve 10 comprises a conical part as well as the lower cap 3 of the fuse holder 1.
Heretofore, 1 the horn had to be painted in a suitable color; according to the invention, this method will be replaced by the fixing, on the alarm, of a small plate 24 carrying a colored plate 25, the plates 24 and 25 being joined by a crimp which will at the same time fix to these plates the main wire 18 Finally, as usual, we will place a spring 26
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
on 1, 'alarm 27. In this way, painting of the plate in each particular case will be avoided by the fact that a colored plate prepared in advance can be placed on the warning device by mechanical means. and in particular by crimping.
