<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

, 'Assembly making it possible to maintain constant a temperature, a voltage or another quantity.
The present invention relates to a device for keeping a temperature, voltage, speed or the like within narrow limits.
According to the invention, a movable conductor whose instantaneous position depends on the instantaneous value of the magnitude to be adjusted and which is connected to a voltage source, is arranged for this effect between two fixed conductors spaced apart from one of the another at a certain distance and connected to the control gates of two thermionic tubes and to one of the arches of two capacitors, the other armatures of which are connected to the voltage source mentioned above and to the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
cathodes of the tubes, while the anode circuits of these tubes act in opposite directions on the value of the quantity to be adjusted,
Other characteristics of the invention will emerge from the following description, given with reference to the appended drawing which shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
In the drawing, 1 and 2 denote two fixed conductors between which is left a certain gap in which the needle 3 of a measuring instrument 4 can move, which, in this case, is supposed to be an indicator of the temperature d 'an electric oven 5, temperature that we want to keep as constant as possible.
The needle 3 is electrically connected to one of the terminals of a high voltage source 6, the other terminal of which is connected to one of the armatures of two capacitors 7 and 8 which are shunted by leakage resistors. 9 and 10,
With respect to the thickness of the needle 3 and the voltage of the battery 6, the spacing of the conductors 1 and 2 is chosen such that, when the needle 3 is in the middle position, the production of 'a disruptive breakthrough is still just prevented. When, however, needle 3 moves towards conductor 1 or towards conductor 2, a disruptive breakthrough immediately occurs towards the nearest conductor and, depending on the circumstances, capacitor 7 or capacitor 8 charges,
This charge can be dissipated little by little through the resistors Q and 10.
The junction point of capacitors 7 and 1 is connected not only to one of the terminals of battery 6 but also
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to the negative terminal of a battery 11 intended to polarize the gates 12 and 13 of two tube-triodes V1 and V2. The anodes 14 and 15 of these tubes are connected, respectively through the primary windings 19 and 20 of two transformers, to the positive terminal of an anode battery 21.
The two tube-triodes also comprise, respectively, Incandescent cathodes 16 and 17 supplied by a common battery 18.
The device is arranged in such a way that, when the needle 3 occupies the middle position and the capacitors 7 and 8 are not charged, the tubes V1 and V2 are traversed by an anode current low enough to be practical. tically negligible * When the needle 3 is moved from this middle position, a disruptive breakthrough occurs and one of the two grids 12 and 13 acquires a strongly positive charge so that a direct current excitation occurs either in winding 19 or in winding 20.
The transformer comprising the winding 19 has, moreover, a second winding 22 interposed in the supply circuit of the electric furnace 5 which is heated by alternating current, and a third winding 24 which, being heated by a battery 25, can cause, consequently, a permanent magnetization of the transformer, This magnetization is opposite to that generated by the winding 19 when the latter is traversed by the anode current, so that the self-inductance of the winding 22 will increase from that winding 19 will be energized.
The other transformer, to which the winding 20 belongs, has a secondary winding 23 interposed in series with
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
winding 22 in the furnace supply circuit 5.
As long as the winding 20 is not traversed by a current, the average magnetic induction in the core of this transformer is almost zero while the self-inductance of the coil 23 has a maximum value. When the winding 20 is energized, the self-inductance of the coil 23 decreases.
It follows from the foregoing that, when the potential of the grid 12 becomes positive, the self-inductance of the winding 20 increases while that of the winding 20 does not vary. As a result, the intensity of the current flowing in the supply circuit of the furnace 5 and, consequently, the temperature thereof decreases. If, therefore, the arrangement is such that, as the temperature of the oven increases, the needle 3 moves to the conductor 1, and vice versa, the temperature of the oven can be kept constant within narrow limits.
Although the device is only described in its use to maintain constant the temperature of a body heated by alternating current, it is evident that there are many other applications. In fact, it is almost always possible to cause the displacement of a moving conductor, such as, for example, a needle, under the influence of the instantaneous value of a voltage, current, speed or the like. This allows current to circulate alternately and depending on the circumstances in the anode circuits of two triode tubes and, moreover, it is always possible to make these anode circuits act on the quantity to be adjusted so as to have opposite effects.
