<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

ACCUMULATOR DEVELOPMENT In. most of the trouble with the battery is caused by neglecting to maintain the sacid water level, either through negligence or mainly because it is not easy to check and to perfect it, '
The present invention relates to a means of maintaining this level constant, automatically, without having to access the battery by pouring water into a bucket, which can be placed at any point in the car, for example. the hood or the back of the car.
This is obtained by means of a special stopper shown in figure 1; in which, 1 is an ebonite stopper with two superimposed compartments and connected by a bottom 2 pierced with a small hole 3; the small cap has two water inlet pipes 4 and a cover
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
5 pierced with a small hole.
Figure 2 shows the assembly of these caps.
Each element of the accumulator receives one and they are in communication with each other by means of a small rubber 11, and the cap of the last element is connected by a rubber 12 to a small water tank 13 placed at a suitable height,
The operation is as follows:
Suppose, figure 1, that the water level has dropped to 6. 6 slightly exposing the battery plates 7.7. This is to bring it back automatically without accessing the battery to the normal 8.8 level.
To do this, it suffices to bring water into the upper cup of the stopper. It will drip, and the water level in the battery will rise.
From the moment the water level has reached the bottom 9.9 of the plug, the water, continuing to flow, will eventually reach the normal level 8.8 but at the same time the air which is trapped in the part. the bottom of the cap will compress.
By the time it reaches level 8.8 this air will be compressed due to haunting to liquid in the battery. Compression will therefore take place from the bottom up on the hole from which the droplet leaves and as the level 10 in the upper cup is kept constant by the water tank 13 in figure 2, these droplets will be heard: less quickly.
If the height of water in the upper cup is equal to h, at this moment the droplet will undergo a compression equal to the pressure which caused it to flow, it will therefore stop.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Level 8.8 was therefore automatically obtained in this battery cell and it will be the same in all the others, regardless of the level at which the water has fallen in one or the other of the cells. The plug being in ebonite or any insulating material, there can be no electrical communication between the two elements at different despotentials,
The level in the outer cup 13 (FIG. 2) may itself be kept constant by means of an inverted bottle 14 full of water and the neck of which is flush with the water level of this cup. in / Each time this level drops, an air bubble, / entering the bottle, will be replaced by a drop of water.
