Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
Process for depleting grape seeds and grape marc and other water-laden products containing oil or oil and alcohol.
It is known that grape marc contains useful products: alcohol in the liquid in the marc, oil in the seeds.
Until now, when it was wanted to extract the alcohol and the oil, it was necessary to engage in separate operations requiring a lot of material and handling. Alcohol is extracted by distillation of the marc. The alcohol-free product contains too much water for the oil to be removed by solvent, so oil extraction requires the following:
Separation of the seeds from the marc; crushing and pressing or diffusion of the seeds.
The present invention aims to extract alcohol and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the oil using the same apparatus, without intermediate handling, without separating the seeds from the grounds; all with great savings in material and labor.
The apparatus employed is analogous to the extractor of the apparatuses extracting oil by solvents, with modifications of non-characteristic detail.
The extraction process is as follows: 1) The fresh grounds are loaded into the device. By passing superheated steam through the load, the temperature of the whole mass is raised. Volatile products are vaporized and entrained. Alcohol, among other things, is found in the distillate.
2) The spent alcohol mass contains too much water to be able to be deoiled by solvent. We start by removing water from it; for this, in the extractor containing the non-alcoholic marc oil is made to arrive until it is filled. This oil is heated by a steam coil or otherwise so that the water is vaporized, in whole or in part, to the point where the extraction of the oil by solvent becomes possible.
3) The mass is then de-oiled by any solvent.
The departure of the water in operation (2), in the form of steam, burst the cells, so that the extraction of the oil by the solvent is very rapid.
The oil bath desiccation process preceding solvent exhaustion applies to all oilseeds.
