<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

ROLLER FOR STRETCHING WHEEL DISCS
The cold rolling mills used heretofore to roll blanks of uniform thickness in order to obtain wheel discs whose thickness decreases from the center to the periphery, giving rise to considerable drawbacks.
Two rolling methods are known, one of which consists in rolling the blank from the center towards the periphery, and the other in pressing between two conical rollers the disc to be rolled arranged horizontally. These two methods have great drawbacks. In the first, the fibers of the laminating disc are prematurely stretched by the rollers in the vicinity of the center, while the fibers of the per.ipheria 1 ----
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
have not yet undergone any deformation. So the rolled material rises or swells? against, the direction of rolling.
This lifting or swelling of the periphery of the disc to be rolled deforms the fibers of the material in two directions; in the direction of rolling, that is to say outwards, and in a direction perpendicular thereto, then that what one seeks to obtain by using tapered rollers is that the deformation of the disc outwardly results in an enlargement of this disc,
Apart from the fact that this detrimental double deformation of the rolled material leads to a large consumption of energy during rolling, the material is subjected to unfavorable stresses during operation. It becomes very brittle and cracks frequently occur during rolling which render a large part of the rolled discs unusable.
The same defect occurs when the disc to be rolled is mounted so as to be able to rotate on an oscillating lever and that it is introduced mechanically, by the edge, between two fixed profiling rollers. In this method of rolling, the pressure determining the movement of the disc acts against the direction of stretching of the material to be rolled, whereby the fibers of the latter feel exposed to partial breakage. . Another important drawback inherent in known rolling systems lies in the fact that the direction of rotation of the rolls must be chosen so that the scale falling from the rolling disc penetrates between the new rolls, which not only causes considerable wear on the rollers, but also makes rolled products very dirty.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The present invention eliminates these drawbacks. The insertion of the discs between the taper rollers takes place from the bottom up. In this way, the discs cannot move against the direction of stretching of the material. The fibers are grasped tangentially or nearly tangentially and stretched radially towards the periphery. There can therefore be no warping of the discs, nor

refreshing material idiuinates, but ualla-01 may not stretch freely in a radial direction and at the same time supir decrease in thickness.
The drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.

Fig.3 a top view.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 show the laminating discs in their different positions.
Fig. 7 shows the method of fixing the two discs to be rolled on the axis, on a larger scale.
The rolling mill is mounted on a cast iron frame 1. The two tapered rollers 2 are fixed on the shafts 3. These are supported on the one hand, at their points of intersection 4 with the shaft 5, and on the other part, in adjustable bearings 10. The movement of the two bearings 10 around the fixed intersection points 4 is obtained by means of a handwheel 6 which, by means of a screw shaft without end 7, acts on two worm wheels 8 each carrying a cam 9, The rotation of the two rollers 2 is controlled by an electric motor 17 driving by an elastic coupling 16 mounted on its shaft, two gears 14 and 13 and two bevel pinions 11.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
When moving the rollers 2 using the handwheel 6, the two bearings 10 are moved apart under the action of the pressure of the springs 44 arranged between them. The hollow shafts 3 of the rollers are traversed by water which, besides the rollers, also cools the bearings.
For the rolling of the discs 18, one or two of these discs are screwed onto a sleeve 19 according to the profile of the rollers 2. The whole is then mounted on a fixed axis 20 in a pad 21 arranged so as to slide. vertically in the frame 1.
This bearing 21, formed in the form of a trough to receive the lubricant, is actuated vertically by an in-dependent motor 45 which can be coupled to the control mechanism of the bearing by means of a lever 22, by means of two worm wheels 23, two threaded shafts 24, one worm 25, the gear change mechanism including the wheels 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31, the coupling 32 with the shaft 33 , of the gear 34 and of the pinion 35 of the motor. A shoulder 46 of the sliding pad 21 slides with the latter in a slot 47 of the frame 1. The lever 22 is provided with a cam 48 against which the shoulder 46 abuts by moving the lever to stop in a positive manner. tive movement at pad 21.
Fig. 2 shows in dotted lines the lever in the clutch position and in solid lines the lever in the disengaged position.
The machine works as follows:

After dressing, the rollers 2 sound; slightly spaced by the handwheel 8 so as to be able to remove the laminated discs from the machine during the return stroke of the carriage to its initial position, During the rolling, the rotation of the discs 18 and of the rollers 2 generate two forces, of which the resultant acts continuously in the direction of stretching until the two axes 36 and 37 come to coincide approximately in the same plane, that is to say when the distance 38 becomes approximately zero. Stretching takes place automatically as a result of the movement and rolling of the blank,
