<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"NEW MODE OF WINDING THE STATORS OF ALTERNATIVE CURRENT MACHINES WITH HALF-CLOSED GROOVES ALLOWING TO AVOID ADDITIONAL LOSSES IN THE COPPER BY USING COMPOUND CONDUCTORS, IN THE RIGHT PART AND IN THE FRONT PARTS, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE MACHINE , OF COPPER FLAPS INSULATED FROM ONE OF THE OTHERS '' .-
In AC machines the notches of the stators are most often, for reasons of an electrical nature,. type known as "semi-closed notches".
The fact of having unopened grooves makes it necessary, for large machines, to use conductors having at most one coil head formed in advance on a template, the conductor.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tor to be introduced into the notch, pushing it parallel to the axis of the carcass. Subsequently, during winding, on one side of the carcass, the coil heads are attached and welded to the conductors.
The present invention relates to a new method of winding the stators of alternating current machines with semi-closed grooves, having the following characteristics: 1 - Possibility, with laminated conductors, of having laminated coil heads of each side of the carcass.
2 - Transfer to the periphery of the winding of the welds to be carried out to connect the various conductors.
3 - Elimination of any welding in the vicinity of the exit from the notches.
4 - Elimination of all low melting point welds which are replaced by solders.
5 - Elimination, by a simple process, of additional losses in the conductors.
In the description which will follow, the case of windings known as “involute windings of a circle” will be considered by way of example.
The figures of the accompanying drawings, to which reference is made, will be described in the course of the explanations.
The invention consists of a simple means of carrying out the introduction, in a semi-closed groove, of a conductor having the two heads already formed before the winding and consequently having the appearance shown in perspective in FIG. I.- Each conductor c is composed of superimposed and insulated lamellae from each other.
Of course, the head I not having to enter the half-closed notch does not have to undergo any preparation. In this
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
which concerns the head 2, in order to be able to introduce it into the notch, the strips are first raised flat in the appropriate place, then twisted into 3 as shown in perspective in fig. III.
In this position, the blades of the head 2 located on the field can pass into the slot f, of reduced width, of the half-closed slot r (see fig.
IV), during the introduction of the coil which is pushed from one end of the sheets to the other, parallel to the axis of the machine; the strips of the head 2 are thus located in the bore of the carcass (see (Fig. II).
Next, on the one hand, the width of the slot f and on the other hand, the number and thickness of the strips per conductor, the said strips may be twisted all together or in bundles in an appropriate number ( three packages in the example shown in fig. III)
If the conductor comprises a large number of strips, in order to reduce the bulk of the coil heads, it is subdivided into several parts surrounded respectively by an insulating tube.
Fig. V relates to such a case. The conductor having a great height in the groove r 'consists of three superimposed parts 4,5,6, in parallel, respectively surrounded by the insulating tubes t4, t5, t6.
Fig. VI, which represents an involute view from the front, shows that, when the slats are raised, the hatched part cannot be deformed, the firing being in this place folded on the field. It will be understood that the subdivision of the conductors which has been discussed previously is necessary in order not to considerably increase the distance d which is an important dimension aa from the viewpoint of the size of the winding.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
After introduction into the half-closed groove, the strips are folded back to form, symmetrically to the head I, an identical head.
The conductor of Orne groove R1 (See fig. VIII) is joined to a conductor of a groove R2 by a simple flat bending of the strips which are brazed :, one by one, at A and B (Fig. VII).
The connection of the conductor of the groove R1 with the horn

It can be seen that by passing from one groove to another, there is an inversion of the lamellae, hence compensation of the electromotive forces induced in these lamellae by the transverse dispersion flow of the grooves and that this inversion does not require any crossing. , nor mechanical torsion of the lamellae considered.
Thus the characteristics stated previously

are well presented by the winding mode object of the invention.
In the above description, it was a question of grooves comprising a single conductor, it is naturally
EMI4.4
permissible, without departing from the scope of the invention, to apply the new winding mode in the event that there are several conductors per groove.
